Yeah, I watched it last week. One of my TT favs. I wish they would revert to offering at least a sprinkling of the older obscure gems like Rapture, Jane Eyre and Swamp Water. Their releases are definitely trending newer stuff now.

How long did take for TT's MYSTERIOUS ISLAND to sell out?

Super stoked about U-Turn. It's been on my wishlist forever. Do the Columbia Tri-Star / Sony masters/transfers that TT get generally look pretty nice? The only TT titles I own are MGM titles (Wild at Heart, Bring Me The Head of Alfredo Garcia)

I'll probably just pick up the UK release of Remains of the Day.
I highly recommend that version. I can't imagine that TT's will be better and you can get it from amazon.com, bypassing amazon.co.uk.

Is there any particular advantage to ordering it from amazon.com rather than amazon.co.uk?

Speed? I'm not in a hurry, so I just ordered Remains of the Day AND A Room With a View from Amazon UK for $25 shipped.

Sony is weird and I didn't want to risk the chance that this would go OOP in the UK.

JAYEMBEE:

Thanks for the info. I'll probably order the 4k JOURNEY, FIRST MEN and maybe ZARDOZ---I was thinking about Twilight's 25% off sale earlier this year, but I don't know if the 4k JOURNEY will still be around assuming TT even repeats the sale.

I think it was 33% off, since the prices were lowered from $30 to $20. But yeah, if they do repeat the sale, don't count on Journey being included in there, chances are titles in the sale would be older ones they're trying to dump.

Pretty much. In last year's Third Anniversary sale, you couldn't just choose whatever titles you wanted for $10 off. They selected 36 titles (one for each month they were in business) to discount. It was assumed that the titles they picked were ones that were selling fairly slowly.

If they have a similar sale this year, it'll likely be the same sort of rules.

Same here about U-Turn.

It's an underrated gem from Stone.

The remastered JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH should look much improved over the previous transfer, which was from an interpositive made from YCM black and white protection negatives, which means greater grain and less sharpness. I assume the 4K remaster is from a scan of the original camera negatives, which I know are too faded to produce a good photo-chemical interpositive but can generate a good digital copy, which can be tweaked to near perfection depending on how much Fox spends on the effort. Assuming the work is adequate, the 4K JOURNEY should be close to the level of what was achieved with the restoration of Fox's THE ROBE.

Then all I need to do is bug Warner for the final three!
I don't think we have to worry too much about missing out on fast-selling titles anymore. Ever since they started putting limits on how many copies people could buy, those low-quantity alerts actually work the right way now, and give interested buyers a good-enough heads-up to get the film, instead of just giving scalpers enough heads-up to buy the last 500 copies over the next 12 hours.

BTW those are some cool title suggestions.

I thought Remains of the Day was going to get snagged by Criterion for sure. In any case, I'm definitely getting that one.

I'm also highly intrigued by Richard III, The Story of Adele H, U-Turn, First Men in the Moon, and The Bounty. I'll wait to see the reviews for the new JTTCotE since I already own the first release.

I agree with someone's earlier comment: the black & white releases are becoming few and far between.

There are legal issues that prevent Criterion from releasing any Ivory films any more.
So, I'm gladd TT came in the game.
I really really really hope for MAURICE now...

Considering the March 10 release date, when can we expect to see the pre-order for Journey to the Center of the Earth go up?
