Returned from Cyprus last night to find my birthday sale titles sitting on the porch

What's more they were the titles I'd ordered

Just checked my email and their website and my 4/3 order did not ship by the end of this week. Unless they meant Saturday...

At least I got the 3/25 one.

I love it!!
Now everyone is looking into replacing their cases. So now an already expensive $30 release needs more money invested into it...
You gotta love the OCD... I hope TT doesn't switch back to blue cases, or it will be pandemonium.

The most simple thing to do is just swap the clear cases going forward with regular old blue ones. It's not like TT had a set standard blue case. I have received three different types of blue ones with my orders. I have put all min in black cases which look kinda cool. Since my TT are next to my Criterions (which are all in clear cases) I wanted something different for the TT.

Maybe because some people want them all the same color.....personally I had to get all my Criterions in the Scanavo cases because they look like S* on a shelf in all these different types of cases/boxes.

I know, I was busting people's chops. Just another investment in an already expensive item seems crazy. With their consistent change on cases over the past year or so, IMO it obviously seems to be a cost issue with them, although speculation on it seemed to be availability. The blu Elite cases were easily available from places like discmakers, so that whole thing about not available seems not to wash, hence my belief in cost. Only time will tell if they 'keep the blu out' or their pockets need to 'keep the money there' Only the collectors and OCD suffer in the end.

As for Criterion, they have always released their films in different cases, digi's and plastic since the started putting out dvd's many years ago. A Criterion shelf needs to look out of sync, it's the beauty of their product.

Per TT Facebook page, Bye Bye Birdie is down to 40 copies. Maybe less now.

38 now according to the cart at SAE. I have revised the count for Bye Bye Birdie in the LQA in the first post of the thread.

I wonder if Zardoz, First Men, and Journey have less than 2,000 remaining to justify a 5,000 count? I hope so. I figured one of them would be under 500 by now.

Why do you hope so? These movies are not an "investment" at least in the long run.

More so to keep getting classic Horror/Sci - Fi from TT. There is a market for these movies and if they keep selling out the better it is for us fans.

I really appreciate TT upping the count for films like First Men in the Moon. Selling out in a month or less at 3000 just means there is more demand in the market to be had. Raising the limit to 5000 means these films hang around longer so anyone who wants it, including new buyers just discovering TT's catalog, have a chance to get it. Yes, getting a quick return on investment is good in any business. Nevertheless, if these last months or even a year, they will sell out, and will still encourage and finance future releases. It isn't a race.

No, the simplest thing to do is to just get over it and leave them the way they are. (It may not be what you want to do, but it's the simplest.)

The obsession for quick return on investments is what's helping destroy the economy. But that's another issue...

With TT's business model being what it is, a title doesn't need to sell out in a month or less to be successful. As long as it sells out in the 3-year exclusivity window, it's good. Now, history tells us that 3000 units is fine for most of their releases -- and probably too high for some -- but if they've decided (and it seems likely that they have) that some titles have enough of a cult following to increase the unit count to 5000, all the better.

In any event, I agree with you. I was late to the party when it came to going for TT releases, and I can't help but think that I might've been able to get a copy of Mysterious Island if the copy count had been 5000 in the first place.
