TT doesn't do transfers, and I doubt Sony is going to spend more money to go back and create a new master with "fixed" color timing.

I know TT has zero to do with the transfers. As far as Sony goes maybe they might come to the conclusion that fixing the color timing on a title that will sell is better than releasing a new 4K transfer of something that won't.

Has anyone else other TT used the new blue version such as iTunes, Amazon, Vudu, Netflix, Crackle, cable, etc.? Last I saw, TT was the only one to use this new version.

When will the next signed promotion be? I really want to buy The Blue Max and Used Cars with a couple of other titles, but I might as well wait until the next signed promotion to meet the quota. It'll be the first time I'll be involved in the TT promotion.

I'm not sure. I know there were people on here saying that one of the streaming or download HD versions was non-tinted. I guess the only thing was that it was an older transfer so the detail wasn't as good, but it did lack the blue.

The film shows us that George Peppard's character, by rising from the ranks of the commoners and becoming a hardened killer with no illusions of gentlemanly conduct, is the kind of New German Man who would one day give rise to post-war Nazism. However, it becomes clear as the story unfolds there is a darker side to the Peppard character. The German Empire may be promoting him as a symbol of a united classless sacrifice but Peppard is also using his image to advance his own personal agenda no matter the cost to those around him. The Blue Max is stunning in its aerial footage, well-acted, a study in hubris and the human condition, filled with insightful commentary on a changing German social order brought on by the war, and one of that group of great films from the 1960s that transcends its genre. It is a must see release from TT. Last edited by oildude; 05-07-2015 at 02:23 AM. |

As for the question as to why people wait until the last minute to buy these things, not everyone keeps on top of the numbers diligently, and maybe they're not quite aware of how low the stock is getting. At $30 a pop, maybe they just can't afford to get them right away. Who knows. The last signed promo was on April 22nd. My best guess is that the next signed promo will be in about two weeks from now on the 20th. |

A while ago I asked on TT's FB page if they'd ever considered branching out into releasing classic television shows on blu-ray. TT said they were considering it, but were busy with so many movies at the moment they weren't sure if it would ever happen. I'd like to see it happen. CBS, for instance, has made new high definition masters of some shows that they seem to have no plans to release even on DVD. For instance, the classic late 1960s Western "The High Chaparral" is now in HD according to the CBS syndication bible:
http://syndicationbible.cbstvd.com/s...s_contents.htm This particular show is considered by some to be one of the best TV Westerns ever made. I've only seen fragments of it, but someone I know who watched it as a kid says it's very good. And it has a whole fan site devoted to it: http://www.thehighchaparral.com/ Probably for some reason or other that's not realistic, but in terms of the general idea, I hope TT will at least consider the idea of releasing some classic TV on blu.... |

In the highly unlikely event something like this happens, I'm hoping c. $150 for a complete series set of, in the case of "The High Chaparral," 4 seasons. For that series, the whole show of 98 episodes would probably need a dozen or so discs, if they filled them with c. 8 episodes per disc.

[QUOTE=baheidstu;10776923]Even if one were okay with somebody buying up a spare copy to resell, it is kinda sleazy for someone to buy up all the remaining stock to scalp. I know it's an old argument and one that's often brought up on this thread because of the TT limited model, but I just think it's an unfair and unscrupulous thing to do.
I hear what you're saying but I respectfully disagree. I don't like the practice but if TT doesn't limit the number of copies people can buy then they are free to buy whatever quantity they want. I'd probably feel differently if the title had just been released and everyone didn't have the opportunity to purchase it but that's just not true in this case. The best course of action is if you really want a bd just get it early on so to avoid those who are willing to clear out the title in order to scalp them. |

The problem I have with the BLUE MAX is that all the major characters played by George Peppard, James Mason and Ursula Andress are slime balls. There's hardly anyone to root for in the movie.
The biplane fighters in the movie were also used in DARLING LILI and a few other WW I movies. If I'm not mistaken, Peter Jackson owns one of the still-flying Pfalz DIII fighters and the scarf worn by Manfred von Richthofen when he was shot down. Most of the aerial footage and fighters in FLYBOYS are obviously CGI. Last edited by dragon53; 05-07-2015 at 01:06 PM. |

Or it wasn't him. Was his comment one that you'd seen him give on TV, or read in his Movie Guide. If the latter, an awful lot of the reviews (probably most, at this point) are written by staff rather than Maltin himself.
