I'm with hariseldon - I continue to buy from SAE primarily because of their excellent secure box packaging for multiple items. It's a $2.50 difference between a flimsy flat-rate USPS priority bubble-envelope, and SAE shipping the same items priority in a protective box, which could cost more for them based on destination, but $30 items will now easily arrive in pristine condition. Duh.

Have only ordered from TT directly a couple of times, and also received boxed shipments.
A box of 6 blurays fits inside the flat rate envelope with ease. Thus my argument still stands. As that would be a $12.49 shipping order with TT. For a shipment that would be even better protected and at half the rate.

As for damage in a flat rate envelope, the policy clearly states a damaged case and sleeve will be replaced, so the consumer has nothing to worry about.

Order placed. I grabbed these:

Pal Joey
Desiree
Cover Girl
Bonjour Tristesse
Philadelphia
Love is a Many-Splendored Thing
The Way We Were

$84.21 total with shipping. That's really one hell of a deal. I'll have to keep watching to see when their next sale is.

I placed my order for the 7 for $70 sale. I ordered these:

Bite the Bullet
Demetrius and the Gladiators
Cover Girl
Lost Horizon
Mindwarp
The Other
Royal Flash

$84.21 after all is said and done. It's almost like paying for 3 and getting 4 free, which are the kinds of sales that I like.

My Twilight Time package arrived in the mail from SAE yesterday. From Noon Til Three, Murphy's Law, Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins, 9 to 5, and Eye of the Needle.

I'm intrigued by the bundle sale, but the titles in there that I do not already own are simply ones that I maybe-perhaps-sort-of would like to own. I'm going to hold off for now, since my unwatched list is pretty staggering at this point.

I was tempted to buy it, but just went with the HD digital version from Amazon. I don't like the movie enough to justify $30 for it.

I love the 7 for $70 sale, but I am going to be ticked if they put Khartoum in later when I have nothing else to pair it with

Rains of Ranchipur
Pony soldier
Swamp water
Philadelphia
Roots of heaven
Cover girl
Alamo Bay

.....are in my cart waiting for the trigger pull

If I didn't already own Bite the Bullet, Pal Joey, The Way We Were, and The Other I would buy in a heart beat, I'll be surprised if these don't sell out soon

I was really happy to see Bite the Bullet and Swamp Water on this round. Got:

Bite the Bullet
Swamp Water
Pal Joey
Nicholas and Alexandra
Bonjour Tristesse
Royal Flash
Alamo Bay

There are some releases in the current sale that are really, really good for the 7 for $70 - Rapture, Mindwarp, The Other, and Sexy Beast are fantastic titles.

I can't find 7 titles there I want. Especially since I already own most of the better ones. Wish they would allow some substitutions like 1 or 2 full priced titles in place of the sales ones. Oh well.

I don't understand why a regular TT buyer would balk at 5 titles they want for $70 with any random other two thrown in on top for free. Throw in shipping and it's still the cheapest they've ever been, even before you sell the two you don't want on ebay.

Bernard Herrmann's name didn't even make it onto the posters for Garden of Evil, but his contribution is the most beautiful and haunting element of the movie. The TT release has the score as an isolated track so that you can listen to it separately without the dialogue or sound effects as a piece of music. And this blu-ray also has a fascinating audio commentary exclusively on Herrmann's score with Nick Redman and music experts and composers John Morgan, Steven Smith, and William Stromberg. As mentioned in the audio track, one part of the score sounds almost like a warm-up for the score to Vertigo. Some passages generate chills for me. Few other music scores do that.

I cannot believe that Garden of Evil doesn't have more fans here. It's a magnificent Twilight Time title, and it's a near-perfect western.

Here's my review that I wrote a couple of months back...

Garden of Evil is one of the most beautiful-looking westerns ever made, and, if you do not own it, then you are doing a tremendous disservice to yourself and your collection. This is a sprawlingly scenic CinemaScope movie that benefits from wise use of matte paintings and sunlit vistas. A soaring Bernard Herrmann music score blends well with the colors and spaciousness of the widescreen images.

Three American adventurers, played by Gary Cooper (High Noon), Richard Widmark (Pickup on South Street), and Cameron Mitchell (Blood and Black Lace), stop by a Mexican village while on their way to California for the gold rush. Their plans change when the gorgeous Susan Hayward (Valley of the Dolls) recruits them, along with a Mexican tough guy, played by Víctor Manuel Mendoza (Cowboy), to rescue her husband, who is trapped in a gold mine in the "Garden of Evil", a beautiful remote area in hostile native American territory. These men and one woman are all driven by different motivations, and one of the joys of the film is watching how they all interact as they get to know one another better. When the husband, played by Hugh Marlowe (The Day the Earth Stood Still), turns out to be alive and capable of riding out, the story changes focus to observe the flight of these characters from the native American hunters.

This film takes jabs in present-day reviews for not delving farther into the greed angle that The Treasure of the Sierra Madre explored, but I rather appreciate the fact that the vibe of that bleak film is combined somewhat with the more adventure-matinee-esque feel of movies like Raiders of the Lost Ark. There's even a distinct "bros before hoes" moment that is a pleasant surprise. Early in the film, the sexy Rita Moreno (West Side Story) has a memorable cameo as a barroom singer.

This Twilight Time Blu-ray sports a great-looking transfer to my eyes, even if the audio presentation deservedly earns more acclaim. An informative set of short documentaries rounds out the title, along with another one of Twilight Time's good-natured and fact-filled commentary tracks.

Garden of Evil is a superb title. Hopefully, more of you will buy this one, spread the word, and help me get it to the 3,000 sell-out mark.

Does anybody else wonder why there is a push to get rid of all the remaining stock on some of these older titles? I would think it would be nice to have some inventory left for people who might not yet know about TT ... or maybe for people who are new to buying Blu-rays. It's like it's a goal or something. Just a thought.

My guess is that SAE's warehouse is only so big. TT comes out with 5 or 6 new titles each month (15,000-18,000 discs), so maybe they're running out of room.

I'm really interested in seeing what titles will be added to this bundle list in the near future.

I went with:
Alamo Bay
Bite The Bullet
The Disappearance
Mindwarp
The Other
Philadelphia
Rapture

Except for Philadelphia, all blind buys I probably never would have taken the chance on at full price or even $19.99.

I think they have a c. 3 year time limit on most of their titles.

This sale expires on Oct. 15th. TT has said they are not adding any more titles before that. And, once the sale expires, my guess is that it might be a while before the next one....
