Default Remembering "To Sir, With Love" at 50

(Copied from a posting I saw on Facebook. Also mentioned in the article are other films released by Twilight Time, including Brannigan, 10 Rillington Place and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner.)

*****

Fifty years ago this month, “To Sir, with Love” was released in the U.S. With a little help from Judy Geeson (Miss Dare) and Christian Roberts (Denham) we look back at making the film and more from their careers.

Charlotte, Kiss of Death and The Boston Strangler are all high on the wish list, but I'm not sure if I should wait and try to get them in that $15 range down the line.

During the last sale, I almost pulled the trigger and bought "Breaking Away" because I knew it was close to selling out. Glad I waited, but I didn't wait a minute past 4PM!

All four of my wishlist titles are included in this sale. Picked up

The Detective
Tony Rome Set
The Best of Everything

Still really want Peyton Place but at $25 I think I can wait. When it drops to $20 it will be mine lol

I picked up a few titles that I had been waiting on too:

Titus
Anastasia
The Panic in Needle Park

I considered Peyton Place and Inferno 3D but decided to wait a little longer. I'm looking forward to seeing an early Pacino that I haven't seen and that I caught a clip of during the last Kennedy Center Honors. I've always loved Bergman so the price felt right, and Titus I've seen before and felt it deserved a re-watch. I remember the film being nothing like what I had expected.

Think I am going to get Panic In Needle Park, Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte and Titus.

Can anyone really recommend Julia? I see it got a lot of Academy Award nominations but I have not seen it.

Thanks!

Julia's a slow burn with little major payoff. I like that kind of film, so I enjoyed it. Good script and some fine performances, particularly from Vanessa Redgrave and Jason Robards. But it's a small interior chamber drama with only a few minor wartime spy trappings. If you don't feel you're being seduced too much by the latter, I would cautiously recommend it.

The films I would compare it to are Eleni (1985) or Daniel (1983).

Jason Robards is pretty great in "Julia", there's a reason he won a second consecutive Oscar that year. If you're a fan of him, he's definitely a supporting part so he's not in the whole thing, but it's worth watching at least once just for him. Other performances are good too, of course.

Yeah, a young Meryl Streep and Lambert Wilson both make an impression too. I really like Julia, I'm just careful not to oversell. They don't make them like that anymore. Largely because general audiences don't want them like that...

It's five bucks. You can blow ten to fifteen bucks at lunch. If you really want a film on BD, you might as well pay five extra bucks for it.

Yes, it's $5 which gets eaten by the $4.81 cost for shipping. And yeah, I could get Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte (my #2 want) to make the overall average more palatable but it's still $25 a blu average and that's a bit more than I'd be open to spending on product that is a little bit lacking to me.

I don't spend $10 to $15 on lunch, that's absolutely bonkers.

Just saying if you're a huge fan of a film, you shouldn't let 5 bucks hold you back. The lunch comment was in jest, but unless you pack your lunch or go to Mickey D's or Jack in the Box, a lot of people spend 10 bucks on lunch.

Black Widow has to be one of the most frustrating films ever made for me. I see such great potential for this film that could've made it one of the best and sexiest neo noir thrillers ever but it just didn't have the courage to go through with what it should have between Theresa Russell and Debra Winger unfortunately (which was obviously there) and also completely dropping the male romantic interest in Hawaii. If it would have I would have bought this first thing on it's release date.
