I find that blind buys are a big part of the fun of collecting Blu-rays. There's a lot of joy to be had in discovering a film you'd never heard of or never thought to watch before, rolling the dice on a blind buy and really liking (and even loving) that film you took a chance on.

I stayed away from the $19.95 titles (although most of the ones I still need/want are in that bracket). Picked up Sword of Sherwood Forest and the Detective.

Couldn't agree more. Blind buys are all about having a gauge of your own taste and are really the spice of collecting. Obviously, it's impossible to negate all blind buy misfires, but generally the boutique labels mostly steer away from the type of horseshit, milquetoast films I tend to really dislike.

Blind buys is the best part of movie collecting. Striking gold on the next unseen movie gives me the greatest thrill. Generally, I am a great judge of films that I will like. Sure, I've struck out on a few purchases but I say that 98% of my purchases have been successful. If not for taking that chance on that unseen film, I never would have the large collection I have.

If you know your tastes and are prepared to do a little research into announced titles, blind buying is pretty safe and definitely a sweet sugar hit. Most of my collection is blind buys.

I had no complaint about doing that, but when their sales became so frequent, I realized that I was essentially throwing money at a product (admittedly a very good product) that was in no danger of selling out and could be purchased at a much lower price in a very short period of time. I may be obsessive/compulsive, but I'm not stupid. So, I wait. I need 46 more titles to be up-to-date on their releases, 29 of those among their last 30 offerings. It's going to take considerable pressure for me to pay more than 14.95 for any of those.

I hope that Twilight Time can reorganize and continue to offer quality product to us. Their basic much-maligned business model, with which I have had no problem, probably needs to be revamped and brought up to current conditions. It's a different world than 2012; Arrow, Indicator, Kino Lorber, etc. provide, on the whole, excellent product at a very attractive price point. I would be willing to purchase personally-desired titles somewhere in the 22.95 - 24.95 range. If they were to institute some manner of subscription service, whereby you take all of each month's offering at 19.95 each, they would have me back in the fold for as long as they want to do business.

Maybe they can rename their company Dawn's Early Light and service our rabid little niche community for years to come. I certainly hope so.
Arrow, indicator, kino and Criterion all offer prices that are close to $20 on sale when all things are considered (or you are locked into spending $50 to get free shipping to avoid crazy shipping with kino).

Yes TT is slightly higher at the $20 price point thanks to shipping rated but they are limited editions in the US which is the largest market for these things.

The fact they had a number of titles at the $5 and $10 points makes posts like this sound winney and entitled. I mostly wanted things in the $20 category as well and couldn't afford what I wanted after all the other sales I went through. That being said if one is willing to by non limited edition arrows and Criterion then the $20 price point shouldnt be that big of a deterrent.

Limited or not, it's hardly equitable though; you're typically getting a LOT more in an Arrow or Criterion release.

Love the hell out of TT, but I'm typically willing to spend a bit more on other company's product due to the relatively barebone nature of their (TT) releases.

Couple that with the fact that these titles almost always go lower in subsequent sales by $5 or $10, yeah, I tend to not jump at the $20 price point.

Now that being said, lower pricing means greater quantity...I currently own 76 TT titles as opposed to just 16 for Arrow (Criterion is an outlier.) So the numbers tend to work themselves out.

Yeah, when TT releases a movie I love, I'll get it the first time it goes on sale for $20, but with other titles that I don't think as highly of, I'll wait until the $15 or even the $10 sale, and if they sell out before that, I just won't own that title.

For a long time, my rule of thumb as to what my spending limit was for a TT title would depend on if it had special features or not (other than the isolated score). If it didn't have any special features, I figured $20 was too much. But that was when it seemed like you could rely on the sales prices eventually getting to as low as $15, if not less. With the sales not being as generous anymore, it's kind of hard to stick to that way of thinking.

That's my thought as well. I have no plans to pick up any titles during this sale. All of the titles I want are still sitting in that $20 slot. I'll get them when they're $15 (or lower).

Also, in many cases if you are region free or willing to buy in many instances the Indicator versions(which generally have better bonuses and also most titles are region free) you can get them cheaper overseas than the TT/SAE prices.

I own about 200 Criterion releases (just a few Arrows since the vast majority of what they have isn't exactly world class Cinema).

However, the only thing that matters is the film with a half way decent transfer. The number of real quality time I've gotten out of my Criterion "bonus" features is next to nil in the scheme of things.

If TT has it, chances are it isn't going to be released by someone else in better quality or with a slew of extras. (Thus far there are few exceptions to that, though it does happen every now and then).

And "limited" does matter in terms of future acquisition of the film should you chose to wait it out. Criterion and Arrow unless they lose the rights to a film you can pick one up any day of the week for under $30, and usually less than $20 on the used market.

Any one got a copy of Leave Her to Heaven they want to sell for less than $20? I sure won't sell mine.

Here is a small low quantity update from the twilight time sale .

First : The World of Henry Orient & Devil in a blue dress are both sold out !

Low Quantity at SAE : La Moglie Piu Bella x 47 remains then sold out
Fat City under 100 remain
Also's really low are : The fortune , The front , The train , Miss Sadie Thompson , Peyton Place , Chato's Land , Theatre of Blood , Flaming Star , Kiss of Death , The Boston Strangler , Count Yorga , To Sir With Love & The Hawaiians .

Low Quantity at Twilight Time :

Fat City x 29 only remain

Also really low are : Count Yorga , Peyton Place , Kiss of Death

Anyone interested in something before there gone better get it because many times low quantities get sold out fast once updated .

All the best

We have several years' worth of Indicator titles that shoots holes in this theory.

That's your preference. To many collectors, the entire package matters where their money is concerned.

Other companies (the aforementioned Indicator, Kino) have picked up the rights to a good many TT titles and released them in more lavish and/or inexpensive editions.

If you live in the US, The number of region A releases of the same titles is still limited and they basically cost about the same once you factor in shipping.

Kino is far from a poster child for quality. And I own plenty of them. And outside of Special sales and hefty min orders, the pricing isn't aggressive either

If the cost is comparable then I'm going with the Indicator every. single. time. But I will on occasion go with the more economical TT release if the situation dictates it...this very sale for instance, I grabbed The Stone Killer for $8 ($2 coupon). Indicator has a more loaded release, but it wasn't worth the extra money to me.

Well just like TT, I only buy my Kino titles through sales, where the pricing is far more aggressive. Their MSRPs start much lower as well. So?

At the end of the day, if you're content purchasing TT product at $20, then continue to be content. But accusing posters of "whininess" and "entitlement" because they choose to and often can pay less is your problem. And if they miss out on a TT title for delaying, that's their problem.
