Scorpion will also be re-releasing "The Killer Elite" but I'll still hold onto the TT for "Noon Wine" if it isn't ported over (I doubt it will).

Adele H, Jane Eyre would be fantastic to get
I'm a bit surprised a label like Eureka, Carlotta, or even Signal One never bothered releasing "Jane Eyre". I guess it must of been that niche for their radars.

I wonder how many Fox titles are left with Twilight Time to be released.

I know that there was at least "Alien Nation", "Fallen Angel", and "The Iron Horse". I'm not sure how many others were known or rumored (TT seemed to wait for Fox to do newer masters on titles and was the reason why "The Iron Horse" was cancelled when Disney put a stop to Fox's restoration schedule).

Interesting. I recall reading that the Alien Nation elements were in bad shape, which is why it was never released. I wonder if Fox was able to restore it before Disney shut that process down.

I rarely buy barebones discs but I picked up the 101 release, it’s okay but they had to issue a replacement scheme for the subtitled alien dialogue (not sure if it’s subtitled on streaming hence why I bought the disc), and their photoshop art is pretty garbage. Some extras would be nice (not sure who could be interviewed), however I doubt it will happen. But even the Jeff Nichols reboot will never surface.

The Iron Horse is almost a century old, if they don’t restore it now what if they lose the chance of ever having a best version because of studio politics? Of course every film deserves a 4K restoration for film history but it won’t happen.

The Flint films. Came a bit late to the TT game and missed out on them. I know there is the French versions which I will likely grab down the road.

"The Egyptian"'s the title I want most. Hadn't yet made the switch to Blu-ray when TT first put it out. So I bought the DVD. By the time I was on the Blu-ray train, the Blu was already a collectible. Criterion surprised many with their release of Fox's "Leave Her to Heaven". And I suspect it's been a good seller for them. So maybe they'll be encouraged to continue the Gene Tierney celebration with their own edition of "The Egyptian".

The Egyptian is only wanted by TT completists...Criterion wouldn't go anywhere near it.

I imagine the same thing could have been said about "Valley of the Dolls", "The Atomic Submarine", "Armageddon" or "Robinson Crusoe on Mars". But Criterion went there. So I won't completely give up hope on "The Egyptian". Let me dream.

Yep. The idea that Criterion ONLY considers and releases monumentally revered works of high ART is ludicrous. Even a superficial, cursory glance at their releases proves that assumption to be ridiculous time and time again. And I for one am glad they are not in reality subscribers to the cliche some apply to them.

THE EGYPTIAN may be imperfect, something that can be said about nearly every film ever made, but there is nothing about it that would make it any less of a fit for Criterion than anything else. It is a wonderful example of mid-century epic filmmaking with commensurate pomp, especially a marvelous use of the 2:55 aspect ratio and an incredible score by Alfred Newman and Bernard Herrmann. Criterion may never consider it, for whatever reason, but that's different than implying it is somehow not "worthy" of the label.

Even for argument's sake, Criterion wanted it, it's a Fox title, which Disney now owns, and they don't appear to be licensing out movies to boutique labels anymore. Time will tell going forward if any more Fox titles come out from Criterion.

Disney isn't even releasing their own stuff on Blu-ray anymore like the Mandalorian which would guarantee them millions of dollars in sales. I wouldn't hold out hope for them to license out lesser known titles, at least for the time being.

I don't see Disney forking over any money to restore Fox titles. We can only hope they at least try to preserve them. Fox's catalog will probably end up like RKO's.

Disney has their own Video club where they release titles on Blu-ray. I just picked up 20,000 Leagues and The Black Hole. It was the only way to get them!.

Only issue is that they have released anything in over a year.

There's a reason why those movies got a Criterion release:

VALLEY OF THE DOLLS is one of the biggest bona-fide cult films of its era.

ARMAGEDDON was a blockbuster they were associated with due to a relationship they had with Disney and particularly Michael Bay at the time.

ROBINSON CRUSOE ON MARS was a personal favorite of the Criterion founder, and was always a well reviewed sci-fi picture from its time period. Keep in mind it also hadn't been released on home video before at all.

There's nothing about THE EGYPTIAN that would fit into the above classifications. And it's obviously at Disney now, so that's the end of that anyway.

"With commensurate pomp". That's the best phrase I've encountered all week. May the blessings of mighty Ra and mighty Zanuck shower down upon you.
