Heston's career is certainly cookin' on Blu ray. Not bad showing for a dead guy. Peck has done rather well too, as has Mature.

I would have to add Burt Lancaster to that list also. He is in quite a few recent blu-ray releases. He is not my favorite actor, yet he consistently stars in so many of the films on my most wanted blu-ray list - Go Tell the Spartans, Ulzana's Raid, Zulu Dawn, Twilight's Last Gleaming, Elmer Gantry, From Here to Eternity, The Train, Judgment at Nuremberg, plus a few others.

I read a rumor somewhere that this is coming out directly from Paramount in a fully restored edition...

Absolutely ROclockCK...even in the UK with the release of "Touch of Evil". A film that I discovered, thanks to MoC. One of his finest roles and one of Welles's greatest acting/directing efforts of his career.

So this label is already flirting with 'premium-ish' pricing, while so far delivering mixed to lower quality. IMO, that's not a healthy model to be pursuing when you have boutique labels like Twilight Time routinely shooting the moon for $30.00 to $35.00, and studios like Fox upgrading Studio Classics with solid packages of special features for $15.00 to 18.00 (or less). So Olive could end up losing at both ends: not being high enough quality to justify their 'premium-ish' cost, and yet never available cheaply enough to become a credible alternative to legacy DVDs. I].

Unless Olive pulls its socks up fast, it looks like they're headed towards an eventual market squeeze. I mean, I fall squarely within in their target demographic and would love to load up my Amazon cart with Olive Blus, but am now playing 'wait-see' for reviews and caps with every single release. Otherwise, where is the incentive for Paramount to get its act together and start providing Olive with better high-def masters? In 2012, if you want serious coin from collectors, you have to earn it.

* And just FYI, Olive Blu-rays routinely cost $27.00 to $32.00 on the few shelves north of the 49th that bother to carry them (I know of only one major chain).
Your point is right on the mark. I completely agree. Like you, I do want value for my $$$. Thanks for all your feedback. We appreciate it.

[QUOTE=ROclockCK;5974301]All of the Lewis titles were in my Amazon queue Joe, but I've since removed every single one. At this quality level, I could justify buying these Blus in $12.00 to $15.00 range but not at $20 +.

QUOTE]

I have all of the Jerry Lewis titles in my price tracker here on Blu-ray.com in the 10 to 12 dollar price range. Perhaps in a year or so they may drop to that price, then I will bite.. with the reviews we are seeing, I cannot justify 20 bucks. (Btw, The Price Tracker can save you money if you are patient.)

Okay, but the comparison with Olive is done. Let's change the subject, otherwise the Mods will be on us with the old electronic scissors.

In that regard, has anyone seen the cover art for The Big Heat yet? Although this revival poster is an interesting interpretation, I hope TT stays more period in feel.

Is there any instance of restraint of trade here? A RICO violation? An opportunity for a civil action under the RICO statute? Cause for a criminal or civil investigation for a RICO violation?
In my opinion, you have no legal right to the access of the purchaser's records, much less agreements that Twilight Time entered into.

No one is forcing you to buy their merchandise. The limitation of some of their merchandise does not constitute a restriction of free trade or a violation of the RICO act, in my opinion. If you don't like the idea of limited runs, don't buy the product. It is as simple as that.

When it comes to the free market, there is nothing wrong with what Twilight Time is doing, in my opinion.

The Big Heat is one I am pretty excited about. I guess we will have to wait until April 9th to see the cover art. I am hoping it is more like the booklet of Swamp Water than the cover of Swamp Water.

Go Tell the Spartans is still one of the most accurate Vietnam films ever made.

Good luck with that. Better to just follow Lemmy's First Basic Rule Of Blu-ray Enjoyment: If you want it, buy it. It may be gone the next time you look. ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE'S JUST 3,000 COPIES BEING PRESSED!!!!

Long time lurker, first time poster. I appreciate what Twilight Time is doing, and I would love to see them release a good Blu-ray version of BARABBAS, one of my favorite Biblical epics. I watched the DVD today, it's in bad need of an upgrade.

Go Tell the Spartans and 84 Charlie MoPic are probably two of the best movies nobody's ever seen.

It's baffling.

Welcome aboard Scorsesefan! This is still pretty new for us too - it was barely 8 months ago that Twilight Time began its remarkable Blu-ray journey through the Fox and SPHE vaults.

Barabbas is a Columbia title, so it's no doubt on the table now. But since this was a Super Technirama 70 production, I guess it's just a question of the condition of its large format elements and what work has already been done on them. I haven't seen this movie since its original theatrical release, but recall liking it. As a kid, I was especially impressed by the 'real' total eclipse of the sun captured during a key scene.

Thanks, ROclockCK!

I would have loved to have seen BARABBAS on the big screen. The eclipse during the Crucifixion sequence is very impressive. It made quite an impression on me when I used to watch this movie on UHF reruns in the early eighties. It also has fantastic performances from Anthony Quinn, Jack Palance and Vittorio Gassman. It would be nice if Columbia has some presentable materials on this, the DVD looks pretty bad on a front projector. The trailer actually had better color and more detail than the main feature.

Iirc, this one does exist as an impressive hd transfer. I started watching it on netflix about a year ago. But I regret to say that it was late at night and I feel asleep. Never got back to it, and now it's been taken down, but the PQ, as I recall, even in streaming, was amazing.
