And let's be very clear about a couple of things: by far the worst review this transfer has received is from Robert A. Harris, a man who some on this thread repeatedly hold up as the "infallible" source for information, so trying to deflect criticism at this point seems a little ingenuous to me. HTF's reviewer basically parroted Harris, as is to be expected. I found the transfer nominally better, and in fact clearly recommended fans of the film buy this, as it is undeniably better than the DVD. One way or the other, it is silly to return an item based solely on a review.

I have read your review and I do not how it would cause someone to return or not buy the movie. The review is very informative and presents your opinion of the picture quality...that is all.

I live in a world where it is commonplace for reputable retailers to accept returns. Large retailers, small retailers, brick and mortar retailers, online retailers...they all routinely accept returns.

I also live in a world where consumers routinely factor reviews (yes, even INTERNET reviews) into their purchasing decisions. In fact, there are even people in my world who think that what reviews are for.

You'd hate it here.

Just to be clear - are you saying you've never returned a non-defective item or that you've never returned a non-defective item for a 'bad' reason?

Would it be silly to cancel a preorder based on a review?

If so, I got pretty crazy after the Color of Money review got posted.

I suspect I wasn't alone.

That is seriously the most unprofessional response I have ever received. The generic response from amazon reps sounds more sincere than this.
Ha! Ed's my new favorite person.

High Time interests me but I need to do some research about the movie itself as I am not familiar with it.

yeah I don't know much about it at all, but I have a soft spot for Bing Crosby because of my mom, and this appears to be one of his better films.
It's definitely one of the blindest buys I think I've probably ever made.

Did not see this label going from their previous releases to so many musicals. Great for fans of musicals I suppose. I prefer stuff like Rapture, The Big Heat, etc..

I just pre-ordered BYE BYE BIRDIE and I'd be happy if TT went 100% musicals!

I always thought that Blu-ray was the PERFECT format for musicals...and musicals were the perfect content for Blu-ray. If you look at something like BYE BYE BIRDIE, it's all about color, movement and sound. And some of the numbers were added to the movie (which had been a stage play), specifically for the purpose of taking advantage of the widescreen.

There may be nobody on this site who has more, old, B&W film on Blu-ray than me. Just yesterday, I got INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS and HIGH NOON. And I've got a ton of old stuff from BIRTH OF A NATION and METROPOLIS to WINGS and CASABLANCA. If it's classic, I 'll buy it.

But musicals SHINE on Blu-ray! Exploding colors and sound...all without having to tolerate Michael Bay .

I love gritty 70s stuff and black-and-white classics as much as anybody but yeah, there really is something about the way that Technicolor and Cinemascope and the like pop on BD that's hard to describe.

Nice haul Larry,

The wife and I just watched Bell, Book and Candle awhile back on Netflix...and loved it. Jimmy Stewart...my favorite actor! Really wanting that and Swamp Water, Swamp Water would be a blind buy for me...I heard good things, though!!!

Dex you are exactly right. Musicals take full advantage of what Blu-Ray can offer. You'll find you have plenty of company on the wishlist thread: Musicals we want on Blu-Ray. Hope to see you there.

I have never EVER returned a non-defective item. For what reason? I bought it and that's that. Sorry, that's the world I live in and I like it here. You live in the world of entitlement. I don't know your age, but if I had to hazard a guess based on this attitude, I would guess young rather than old, i.e. different values for different generations.

Just in case anyone missed the post I made, Birdie looks stunning - one of the best blu-ray transfers I've seen. High Time also looks excellent.
