Commentary track (by director Herbert Ross) on 'Steel Magnolias' according to the Screen Archives page, presumably the same one as on the DVD. That's Twilight Time's fourth commentary track so far.

Sorry if it has been discussed before, but has SA said why they are no longer doing the magents for the first 1K pre-orders?

Never mind. Just got this response from them:

well that's totally lame imo.
I mean god forbid SAE actually continues to make a basically insignificant little extra that people enjoy and like to talk about.
I just don't get it.
guess it's a real struggle to get a few magnets made.
whatever. actually SAE, just don't listen to your bd customers in a tough economic environment; good strategy.
(btw: for people that might not understand--I care about the MOVIE first and foremost, but I do like the magnets, and am kind of baffled by SAE's decision)

Well, you are talking aboiut a label that has a pretty outrageous cost/benefit ratio in the first place...

I got a lengthy response when I asked why they were no longer doing the magnets:

Id rather Fox release their own titles if only for the reason there is a chance the prices will be reasonable, no 3000 limit, Fox would most likely include their own supplements from DVD releases
So cost is the problem with making a magnet, someone should tell them cost is a problem buying their product ( Im sure not for all of us )

I knew this day would come, and people would be unhappy about it. They should have never offered the magnets in the first place if they weren't sure they could do it permanently.

TT conditioned customers to expect a magnet, and this move will devalue TT releases in the eyes of some.

Watching people getting P.O.'s about the lack of magnets is just hilarious.

When people started complaining, I thought they were joking.

I couldn't imagine that any movie fan would be so shallow as to think that magnets have any value. Incredibly, I now understand that the complainers are actually serious.

But this is what happens when companies start adding useless nik-naks to their products. People start to expect the crap along with the movie. It's like slipscovers...more stuff that I have to separate out of movie collection and consign to the landfill.

I would advise that SAE not add any more magnets to their products. And don't make the Olive FIlms mistake of adding slipcovers. Put a disc in a good solid package to keep the movie fans happy. The crap collectors can rummage through the antique shops if they want more stuff to clutter up the house.

Indeed,it's more than great to see Laura coming next year.I worried that Fox might want to hold off its release until 2014 to coincides with movie 70th Anniversary.Glad it didn't come to fruition

However, anything already released on DVD under the Fox "Studio Classics", "Cinema Classics" or "Film Noir" series looks like it has been repatriated by Fox. Probably that includes the "War Classics" series as well.

Of the top though, here are some Fox titles which did have a DVD release, but weren't featured under any of the above series banners:
  • Flight of the Phoenix
  • The Innocents
  • Five Weeks in a Balloon
  • Pirates of Tortuga
  • Quest for Fire
  • The Legend of Hell House
  • The Fly (1958)
  • Our Man Flint / In Like Flint
  • Compulsion
  • The Hot Rock
  • Little Murders
  • The Long Hot Summer
  • The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing
Off that list,i want to see following titles badly:The Flight of the Phoenix ,Quest for Fire, and B]Compulsion[/B]....as well as The Driver.I hope that The Driver could end up being a part of Signature Series.
AFAIK,the 1080p masters exists for all four aforementioned titles,so if Fox is reluctant to release them on BD,than one can hope that TT could snatch them out of their hands.

Yeah, I've been meaning to comment on this for a while, too. Although it's nice that some TT releases include a magnet -- and I've gotten four of them with the titles I've bought -- it's just no something I care about. I stick them on my fridge, and then you know what? I promply forget about them. I don't even notice them much no matter how many times I go to the fridge! So, when there isn't one included with a release, I don't feel as if I'm missing out on anything. Aren't these releases and the collecting of them supposed to be about the movies themselves?

Anyway, on the topic of what movies from the vaults of 20th Century Fox will be released on BD by either TT or Fox themselves, I have only two things to say... Please hurry up both TT and Fox and just get this stuff out there so I can pay you people for it! I mean, life is short and I've only got so much time left on the planet earth (the exact amount of that time being an annoying mystery), and I assume the same is true with you, so if you're in the business to make money, then I've got the money to spend, now how about the product to buy? What would I find really exciting news from either of you? Ten BD releases of major Fox library titles -- IN THE NEXT THREE MONTHS! None of this vague "early 2013" or "late 2014" crap! Jesus H., I could get killed in a car crash tomorrow! So, just get on with it already, you frustrating M.F.s! (I say with all love for the movies you offer!)

And the second thing I want to say is... how about THE BLUE MAX? Why isn't anyone mentioning this title? Great photography, a classic Jerry Goldsmith score, and a nearly naked Ursula Andress in her prime -- WHY ISN'T THIS OUT ON BLU-RAY ALREADY?!!!

Well, we are getting a 3rd TT title in December Rory, so hopefully that is a sign of stepped up production for '13. Yet I always try to temper my collector enthusiasm and impatience by acknowledging that for many of these titles, a TT Blu-ray might very well become its definitive (or only) home video release. So above all else, I want this stuff finally getting done as well as it can be, given the surviving elements. Ultimately, it's in nobody's best interests for TT to increase the product flow if their quality suffers.

Although I'd very much like to see The Blue Max too Rory, I purposely left it off my list because it was a title from the "Fox War Classics" series (which included equally desirable titles like Sink the Bismarck, Von-Ryan's Express, The Young Lions, The Desert Fox, Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison, The Enemy Below, and D-Day, the Sixth of June). My assumption in that post was simply that Fox has been indicating lately that it intends to revive all (or select titles from) its premiere 'theme' series on DVD ("Studio"/"Cinema"/"Noir"/"War"). And if their "Studio Classics" Blu-rays do reasonably well, will a revival of those other series be far behind? That whole block of vintage Fox titles might suddenly become available from the studio themselves, and off-limits to TT as a result.

Another way of looking at this is that maybe most of those titles from the Fox theme series (like The Blue Max) never were available to TT among the original "list of 100", and have just been wishful thinking on our part all along. I mean, except for Demetrius and the Gladiators, none of TT's Fox releases to date were from any of those theme series...most were never released domestically on DVD...some never even legitimately available on home video.

The digi-book thing was one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen on the Internet - here alone over sixty pages of people posting about Best Buy and those digi-books for Jaws - relentless - and such illuminating posts as "I went there early and they didn't have it. Damn you, Best Buy." One page of it, okay, but sixty (over sixty probably) - it was hilarious and not in a good way.

And then the magnets. When slipcovers and magnets and digi-books are all this is about, why not just go collect Barbie dolls or something that might actually appreciate in value?

This should be about nothing but the movies. Great transfer, lousy transfer, nice extras, no extras, good sound, bad sound - not the extraneous horse manure.

Well if they stopped magnets I don't have to pre-order every month. No incentive. I'll wait for a deal.

And yet here you are bringing it up in another thread.

I guess complaining about people complaining about digibooks and magnets is ok, even though it's not "about nothing but the movies"?
