I'd only add that Swamp Water is a formerly lost chapter of 'Renoir in America'...if you have any interest that artist's body of work. Not only a fascinating film, with memorable performances, but like Rapture, one of the finest presentations of vintage studio B & W on Blu-ray.

Swamp Water is my favorite TT release so far - warm, touching performances, beautiful cinematography and location shooting, and Renoir's trademark humanism all on full display. Rapture is superb as well. I think those are really the twin jewels in their catalog to this point. The Big Heat is damn near perfect, but it's a pretty well-known film, whereas the other two have been unjustly neglected.

I've got 560 BDs and the only one that gave me a scare was PAL JOEY from Twilight Time. It would freeze and skip at the end of an important musical number. I eventually did a firmware update to my player and it played as smooth as glass ever since. Turns out it wasn't the disc at all. I'm not saying that's your problem...but just double check to make sure. This isn't like returning a disc to Walmart. You don't want go to the trouble of mailing back a disc and get a replacement that does exactly the same thing. |

It's probably a combination of authoring peculiarities, changing standards, and hardware compatibility. I had the same problem playing RAPTURE on a Samsung BD player but it plays just fine on other brands I've played it on. The Samsung has problems with a number of other discs, as well. And often LG players will skip chapters on newer BDs that have a very brief freeze at the same points on other players, but mine seems to play Twilight Time discs okay.

I know you already made your choice, but allow me to add to the chorus of people that agree that Rapture is not only an excellent film, but an excellent Blu-Ray transfer as well...

They were just a spammer.
Easy to spot once one knows what to look for as they are new accounts that copy previous messages in a thread making them seem semi-legit (though not often making the most sense in context). They seem to target higher profile threads, such as stickies, and all their posts contain links to something or other (hidden outside of email notices and when quoting due to being new accounts without full posting privileges). But, to answer your question, see the original post. |
