At least this appears to clear up one lingering mystery - the imagined lost stereo mix for Nicholas and Alexandra which has almost become a movie geek urban legend. I guess the assumption has always been that all 70mm films minimally have stereo tracks. But this was, after all, a 35mm blow-up to 70mm at the tail end of the roadshow era (early 70s) during the height of the indie/youth boom when studios were cutting back on such presentational enhancements, especially for traditional epic-style historical biographies, which were themselves an increasingly rare and endangered species.

Actually, it wasn't until the mid-to-late 70s that sound came back with a Dolby bang via movies like Jaws and Logan's Run, and especially Star Wars , Close Encounters and Superman. So considering the era when N&A was released, I have no difficulty imagining such epic-on-a-shoestring exhibition choices...just the mere fact that it was filmed in 35mm and blown-up, instead of being natively shot in 70mm.
Caught a bit late with the conversation but I was a little disappointed to see a mono soundtrack on what I thought just had to be a four or six track soundtrack. Panavision 70mm blow ups - I'm sure you are quite right. It was the beginning of a slow end for 70mm and the first to go had to be the sound with the visual 70mm blow up element still exhibited. Now that it is explained I can understand and will without hesitation add Nicholas and Alexandra (1971) to my must have short list. I'm guessing the same will happen to Columbia's Cromwell (1970) another Panavision 70mm blow-up around the same era once it gets a chance to be released... hint, hint TT

Speaking of Fate is the Hunter, did anyone else grab the Nancy Kwan autographed version when it was up last year? I hesitated for a few days but finally got one and was surprised they lasted as long as they did. Did TT ever state how many copies were signed? I don't remember if it was listed in the description.

Cromwell shows up every now & again on the BBC in a nice transfer with good stereo sound.

Just 100 of those lcummins, and I picked up one too. That offer seemed like a no brainer to me because even if TT or Sony or someone else re-releases this title on Blu-ray, the DVD would always retain considerable collector value because of the limited number with a Kwan signature.

I think FITH was actually my first TT DVD, and I was so impressed by the quality of that disc even upscaled from SD, plus Goldsmith's always welcome IST, that I began buying their other DVD-only titles too. And except for Violent Saturday, which was clean but letterboxed, I've never regretted those purchases...like TT's Blu-rays, their DVDs tend to be a cut above.

That jibes with my memory of the DVD as well CinemaScope. Cromwell had a Dolby 2.0 stereo surround track, so if TT does go after that one, I'm sure they would have good audio to work with...plus the film was photographed by the late great Geoffrey Unsworth which pretty much guarantees that spec would be a slam dunk too.

Forgive my ignorance because I always forget, when you place a pre-order through Screen Archives with a debit card do they charge you immediately or not until it ships? Or do they do a temporary charge first and then "officially" charge you when items ship? Thanks in advance!

They do a temporary charge which disappears after a few days and then charge you when your order ships.

Thought so. Thanks very much for the reminder, let's hope it sticks in my brain this time

Does anyone think there's any hope for Twilight Time to pick up "The Karate Kid III". It's been bugging me for years that Sony only chose to release the first two films to capitalize on the remake's release. A trilogy box set would have just made too much sense I suppose

Probably not. I'd say it has a better chance of ending up with Mill Creek.

Yeah, I'd have been up for a boxed set of all three. I've got the two they did release, and have a very soft spot for them, but I would have liked the third as well. It's true it was a little weaker and had certain retread qualities, but it also brought the character cycle to completion better than just stopping at the end of number two.

I have an unforgiving love for the third film. It honestly would be ripe for Twilight Time to pick up since the DVD of the third film never had features on it to begin with and since Sony doesn't let sub-licensors create new special features for titles and just recently have allowed port overs of existing special features, this film has none to offer which would make it simple for both parties. I guess the only issue would be if people would want to fork over $30+ bucks for a bare-bones release of "The Karate Kid III"... I know I would I mean, c'mon, Mike Barnes "karate's bad boy" and Terry Silver in 1080p. Need I say more?

I feel pretty confident in stating empirically that Twilight Time will never release Karate Kid III.

Yeah, as unfortunate as it is, you're probably right. I guess there's always a chance that Sony will release it sometime in the future but I feel like I'll be waiting a long time for that to happen.

As someone else suggested, a Mill Creek release seems pretty probable, and you'd only be paying $5 or so. Can't say I'll be joining you in a purchase though...I'd like to see The Fly from TT in October, and a Lodger/Hangover Square double-feature disc (with isolated tracks, especially for Hangover Square) would be a welcome Halloween present as well.

I'm definitely with you on your suggestions! There's no denying that Twilight Time's horror offerings have been sure things for them. Let's hope they continue with even more.

Well if they release Hangover Square, etc they should do the entire Fox Horror Classics, so include the Undying Monster
Whatever they release I hope all the titles have the same extras on the DVD, but weve covered that already..just always keeping my fingers crossed

Heck, I'd just like to see some more Harryhausen. Even one of the lesser known ones like 3 Worlds of Gulliver or First Men In The Moon. (Though finishing up the Sinbad trilogy would be fantastic.)

Undying Monster, though an enjoyably atmospheric little B-movie, doesn't have any of the critical cache, (mild) star power, or (minor) name recognition of the other two Brahm titles, and including it would necessitate making the release two discs, which is why I didn't mention it.

Looks like another DVD title may be close to selling out. According to my cart, The Flim-Flam Man has less than 40 copies available.
