No one can beat Olive for variety or output. Price and transfer quality can be debated (though I'm content with both), but in terms of eclecticism and sheer volume, they're tops in my book.

I'm still pretty confident we'll see it in 2013, but they probably don't want to stick all their horror/sci-fi titles together in one short period. The Blob will likely be paired with another genre title, perhaps Candyman?

Another snap!, NoirFan. ;-)

I misread the original post, and for a second I thought they were announcing PHILADELPHIA STORY, but I was wrong. Bugger.

I'd love for them to confirm Scanners and Thief and finally upgrade Element of Crime.
I hope Thief really does come out someday on bluray, and at this point from anyone, because the dvd is one of the worst looking on the market that isn't one of those public domain flicks you can pick up at the dollar store.

Yeah. They're probably saving it for October.

This is seriously one of the strongest line-up i've ever seen. Way to go TT!

Philadelphia is a complete shock to me. It is TT first classic release, sorry horror fan boys. 93-95 was the last great period of Hollywood movies, this is not a catalog release in my opinion.

I'm shocked that Philadelphia and The Driver are getting limited editions only. Definitely not happy about this, especially if all we get is the usual bare-bones release with no subtitles and bonus features.

Yeah, but that's been rumored for a few years now. Of course I guess Bottle Rocket was rumored for about 8 years until it finally came out from them, so who knows.

The movie is 20 years old. To studio suits a movie released last year is a "classic" catalog title. Obviously the Blu-ray collecting public was not in a big hurry to get such "popular" Oscar nominees as STEEL MAGNOLIAS and AS GOOD AS IT GETS, since they didn't sell 3000 copies their first weeks or months of release. I don't think that even a sci-fi genre favorite like ENEMY MINE has reached the 500-remaining level. No, I'd say Sony knows how to get the most reliable profit from its titles, even if it's slow about doing it.

As with Olive's titles, it's also nice how there are certain themes to many of the releases coming out the same month or quarter. It would have been amusing if Twilight Time had released PHILADELPHIA the same date as THE PHILADELPHIA EXPERIMENT, another limited-appeal classic from one of its two studio sources.

I wonder if Philadelphia will be bundled with any of the action figures, such as Miguel, Andrew's long-time companion, with full battle armor and dino buddy?

Steel and AGAIG didn't sell 3000 copies each at the $30 price point. How many do you think they would have sold if they were available for half that amount?

There's still a classic mistake being made.

People are saying that since "As Good as it gets" didn't sell 3000 copies at $30, that it confirms nobody wanted to buy the title.

That cannot be stated factually.

You can only conclude that 3000 people did not want to pay $30 for it.

Perhaps, if it were available for say $20 more people would have bought it. There is no way to know unless and until there is a wider release.

BUT...

The bigger story here...

Twilight Time is doing a non-limited release movie? I remember all the people so certain this could not be done... They couldn't possibly get an agreement to do more than 3000 copies... various reasons were thrown around as if such a thing were impossible for Twilight Time to do.

And yet... they are doing a non-limited movie release this year. That is what they should have been trying to do all along, especially with the more popular titles.

Maybe a few more copies, but the bigger issue is that no one really knows these exist outside of a small percentage of the population who frequent blu-ray message boards. You ask the average person, they probably would have no idea these releases are out, because they're not in any stores or even Amazon.

Are people just magically supposed to know about Twilight Time and their catalog?

If I were a non-forumite who wanted As Good As It Gets on blu-ray, the first place I'd go is Amazon.com or Best Buy, or any other retailer (online or B&M) I know carries blu-rays/DVDs, etc.

"What? Not available? Guess it must not have been released yet. Oh well..."

Does anyone honestly expect the average person to have any clue that TT is releasing these blu-rays?
