The problem I'm having, is that some of these films are hard to find to rent, or see. Take Desiree for example. I am a fan of Orson Welles, so I'm intrigued, but the plot description isn't enough to make me want to blind buy at $35. Hmmm.

Orson Welles? He's not in it, maybe you mean Marlon. I have two Twilight Times Blu's that I'm very happy with, The Egyptian & Mysterious Island, but I knew & loved those films. There's no way I'd blind buy at those prices.

Oh, for cryin' out loud! How the heck did I get those two mixed up? I was thinking Brando, but said Welles.

![]() In any case, DESIREE is an interesting film to watch but it may or may not be something you'd like to own, depending on personal tastes and what it is you're looking for in it (e.g., story, production values in sets and costumes, acting performances, specific stars, color CinemaScope cinematography, era of production, etc.). |

For example I think As Good as it Gets is a Perfectly enjoyable film (albeit I never saw it was "Oscar Worthy"). However there's no chance at all I would pay $35 for that one. On the other hand it was very exciting to pay $35 for film like Rapture or The Egyptian which have truly been forgotten about until Twilight Time released them in top form on blu-ray. Swamp Water is another one that was a huge hit for me. Those will be permanent fixtures in my blu-ray collection. I have been lukewarm about a couple of the films. Wayward Bus for example - Twilight Time did a fine job with it, but the film absolutely STINKS. Bite the Bullet doesn't really do anything for me either, I would just call that one mediocre through and through. Worst case scenario though is I can resell them and maybe only lose $10-15.. |

![]() One of the movie fans I know up here who piggy-backs on my orders to save on cross-border shipping has taken a chance on a handful of TT titles on impulse blind buys. He had a similarly soft positive reaction to Bite the Bullet , thought The Wayward Bus was enjoyable only as cult camp, and outright loathed Rapture plus the Novak films for some strange reason. On the other hand, he loved both High Time and The Roots of Heaven, so go figure. Yet he shrugged off the less compelling titles with, "Hey, if I sell them now, I'm just out the cost of seeing a movie, but if I sit on them for a couple of years, I might recoup, or even gain." ![]() Hard to argue with that practical consumer logic. I mean, he's admitting that he's freely indulging himself with some pretty obscure vintage titles outside his general comfort zone, but doesn't feel like they've been a dead loss due to the niche collector appeal and limited run nature of these Blu-rays. Someone, somewhere will always want one of the few copies that exist...especially the more offbeat, modest-selling titles that will never get done again in Region A or elsewhere. |

I decided to order Bite the Bullet, Experiment in Terror, and Bonjour Tristesse.
I'm still eyeing Desiree, Pony Soldier, Beloved Infidel, The Flint movies, Those Magnificent Men..., as well as the upcoming Major Dundee, The Driver, Leave Her to Heaven, Philadelphia, The Fury, and Hard Times. Man, this could get expensive. |

I've watched CITIZEN KANE a dozen times trying to force myself to like it. I don't. It bores me silly. On the other hand, I can watch ROLLER BOOGIE with Linda Blair everyday of the week and never get tired of it! Onto some Twilight Time business...I must confess that I'm now feeling the sting of the new international postal rates. I went to order IN LIKE FLINT this morning (I already have OUR MAN FLINT) but I only got halfway through the process when I cancelled...decided I just couldn't justify it with the increased shipping right now. I will still buy it. However, I have a lot of standing pre-orders for other things and some of the "marginal" titles will have to wait for awhile. Maybe April. |

Christine - The Driver - The Fury - Leave Her To Heaven - Major Dundee are likely to be what I'll be picking up in the future.
I'm already the proud owner of Big Heat - Bye Bye Birdie - The Egyptian - Experiment In Terror - Mysterious Island - Night Of The Living Dead - Rapture - Swamp Water - The Wayward Bus. No disappointments yet, but I'm in agreement with rockaroundtheclock's logic. If it were something I'd never watch again, I'd put it back on the market for someone else to hopefully enjoy. |
