In about twelve years of online shopping, I've never once been dinged with customs fees for any movies (DVD, VHS or Blu ray). Maybe I've just been lucky. I plan on ordering the Sinbads from TT so I'll see if anything is different when those arrive in December.

It's not just the cost...but if they are collecting for tax/duty/handling charges, that means they won't drop off the package in your mailbox if you aren't home to receive it. They'll leave a note telling you to go the nearest postal outlet the following business day (hope they don't attempt delivery on a Friday).

That's an enormous inconvenience. In Winnipeg, mid-winter trip to the post office at -30C is no afternoon walk (especially if I have to now PAY extra for the privelege). I've got about 13 Twilight Time titles and it looks like that may be the end of the collection for me.
So do you not have a car with a radiator? What about going on your way home from work? Or do you hibernate all winter? Sorry, I live in Saskatoon so you ain't getting any sympathy from me!

In over ten years of online shopping I've never had Canada Customs ding me for any movies I have purchased from the U.S. or elsewhere (VHS, DVD or Blu-Ray). That includes living in two different provinces. Maybe I've just been lucky. I plan on ordering the two Sinbads so I'll see if anything is different when they arrive in December.

If nothing is owed on a package, I open my front door and reach into the mailbox.

If money is owed, and I have to pick it up at a postal outlet, I have to plug the car in for two hours, dress for the weather and drive to the nearest postal outlet which is inside a supermarket where I can stand in line to pay for my package.

So there is a significant difference in convenience.

Okay, I was kidding around but seriously, you're being a bit dramatic, aren't you? I'm not saying it's not inconvenient, but I have to pick up packages at the post office all the time if they're too big to fit in the mailbox. Not only that, but when it gets to minus 40, I'd rather be picking it up at the post office instead of leaving it out there in the elements to get damaged.

If I get nailed for HST and Customs then that is it for me. I will just have to hope that future releases get overseas region free releases and I will have to wait and gamble that way.

As much as I hate the $29.99 plus shipping price point for what are essentially "bare bones" Blu-Rays I was willing to play along since movies like As Good As It Gets were worth the headache and pricepoint to play the Twilight Time game.

Will be a hard thing for me if About Scmidt gets the TT treatment as well.

The pricepoint and limited quantities were annoying enough as it was. If I get nailed by Canada Customs for Blu-Rays then Twilight Time has lost a fairly regular customer.

Can you purchase a region free player in Canada? I can't wait any longer for the studios to get off their asses any longer.... I import from anywhere now....I'd be dead if I waited for the chance to enjoy my favorite films on blu......

Tootsie, China Syndrome, Mothman Prophesies ......from Germany
Music Box from Denmark
Lifeboat, Fantastic Planet, Quatermass and the Pit, Motel Hell, Last American Virgin, Squirm From the UK.....

And they weren't all that expensive even with shipping.......

This isn't like the good ole DVD days, where you could pretty much count on your favorite movies being released consistently.....that's over. Grab the product where you can.

Well, if you are used to making stops at the Post Office then, it isn't a big deal. I myself get everything sent to my PO box.

But if the only thing you need to make arrangements for is the Blu ray that is now charging you extra for the privilege of a day trip to town, then I think that one or two moany paragraphs is easily warranted.

I need to cut back anyway, their upcoming titles makes that a bit easy all by itself, but yes, The Fury was kind of a wake-up call for me. Will be more selective/hesitant in the future.

I dunno. Better encode #'s, more extras. I'll happily pay a premium for those.

But look at Shout Factory's offerings (at a much lower price point) compared to TT's. Extras are about the same, encodes are the same (TT DOES NOT DO THE TRANSFERS, THEY SIMPLY BUY WHAT THE STUDIO HAS ALREADY DONE). IMO, TT's model is just a jerry-rigging of prices. If Shout, Arrow, and many others have success, no reason TT can't. They just want to be Criterion without putting in all the effort that Criterion does.

I wasn't commenting on the inconvenience of going to the post office versus having it home delivered as much as I was commenting about going out in the minus-30 weather. For anyone who has lived any length of time on the Canadian Prairies, going out in the bitter cold becomes second nature considering the winter lasts from about October to May. I think he was just playing it up a bit for dramatic effect.

According to their Facebook page, pre-order date for their December titles is on November 20th, 4PM EST.

I'm getting extremely annoyed as I have yet to receive even a shipping notice for JANE EYRE or THE WAY WE WERE. IT still lists as "pending." I placed an order on the 9th for OLIVER! and I received a shipping notice today. Did anyone else get THE WAY WE WERE and JANE EYRE in the same order?

seems clear that they received Oliver first and started sending those to people that had only ordered that title.
the other 2 titles don't seem to have arrived at TT yet, as nobody has reported shipping notices for those titles.
I ordered all 3, but haven't gotten a shipping notice for Oliver, as I expect they will wait for all 3 so that they will all ship in the same package.

I mentioned my TWWW being on the way three days ago; received shipping notice November 6. Should have been delivered today (after hitting my local p.o. this past Saturday) but there was apparently a hardly unprecedented hiccup/delay in the transfer from UPS to USPS. It didn't get sorted until this afternoon; should be out for delivery tomorrow morning.

I ordered Oliver! and The Way We Were the minute they went on sale to pre-order and they are still PENDING. Jane Eyre I ordered last week and it delivered today.

So were they packed the same way as before? (Thinking about an order this week, but mostly just thinking.)

I wondered if THE WAY WE WERE were holding up my order. but I have not heard back from SA about it. I've read comments on other sites where they say they've received TWWW or JE so it's confusing.
