I take advantage of sales all the time; just like everyone else. especially the B&N Criterion sales over the years.
so just to clarify--it was only the fact that it was indeed a TT sale, which I had thought was off the table, that made me feel somewhat like a chump. Also $10 off was quite generous. maybe $5 off would have made me feel a bit better. I don't know, it is what it is, and again for those people who picked up lots of titles congrats. You definitely got a great deal.

I only ended up ordering more titles that weren't on sale than were because those were titles I were interested in. I only got two titles that were on sale. Only one of which I definitely planned on getting beforehand, but I wasn't interested in any of the others. And for them to have a sale, not many other people were interested in those titles either.

Maybe they needed cash right now and they knew at the current rate they would never sell out of some of those titles (or even break even). Even with the sale, they haven't issued a low quantity alert on any titles.

Will they ever have a sale again, who knows? Could be another three years when their contract expiration on titles are ending. Not that they should fear that. If they can't sell 3000 units, no studio or any other boutique label is ever going to take on those titles again. You can be bummed that you didn't save $10, I've overspent on items before too, but this pretty much guarantees that your purchase is truly a limited edition. You won't see any other editions and you won't see a better picture or hear better audio for that film again. Or at least one that doesn't involve streaming, ugh...

Not trying to sound like a jerk here, but anyone who thought TT or SAE wouldn't do something to get these slow sellers out the door must've been drinking too much of the TT kool-aid. I can tell you right now that save for one title, I probably would not have bought the four other titles I did that were on sale if they were full price, and this is coming from someone that has already purchased 12 titles in the past at full price.

From now on I will only buy titles right away that I think will be good sellers for TT. Others I will wait on hoping they will go on sale down the line.

Good luck with that one. I guess if you can wait until their five year anniversary!

Oh, there's no question that the TT sale would have moved titles.

The real question is this: Will the sudden sale-pricing by TT have the effect of slowing the sale of marginal titles over the long run?

There are certain axioms of retail. For example, it is said that, once you offer people free-shipping, you can't take it away in the future. If a retailer starts to offer free-shipping, buyers come to expect it and sales will drop measurably if that retailer tries to charge for shipping again. People come to expect deals once they have been offered.

Now that Twilight Time has offered a significant number of titles at a large discount, have they altered their own market by presenting the possibility of future discounts on their product?

Sure, there will be guys here who bought a half dozen discs they would not have otherwise purchased.

The flipside is: how many future purchases will be deferred by buyers who no longer see TT prices as definitive and final? We can't measure this number.

That's true to a degree, but if people on here are going to hold off buying a title that they actually want based on any future sales on TT product, I would imagine they'll be waiting quite a long time. Now if we have another sale in 6 months or less, then I can see where people start going, oh well I guess no one is buying this title so I'll just wait like most people on this site seem to do for Criterion titles in regard to the half off B&N sale.

I can say for myself, 4 out of the 5 sales titles I would not have bought if they weren't on sale. Titles that I was interested in, but not enough to plop down 29.99-34.99. There have been and will be titles though that I would have no problem purchasing for 29.99-34.99.

I don't think this will affect TT much. I see what you're saying, but this is also not a normal product where the price is in constant fluctation nor are there sales often at all. I understand people waiting six months for next B&N Criterion sale, but it took TT three years or so to decide to do a sale. There's no way TT will have another sale within the next year at least, so I'm not going to stop buying the titles I want just because there MIGHT be another sale soon.

Hope nobody decides to not buy The Blob (1988) because they think there's going to be a sale!

Only the TT haters who a actively look to dis and complain probably feel it was a slap in the face as you say.

Here's food for thought: they actually now have this sale monthly with their autograph promotions: buy 4 and get the free auto copy which you can flip on eBay for at least 35 (mind warp) or more (look them up there) and bring your cost of the 4 you bought to possibly much less than 100 shipped.

What a slap in the face...

Default reason for part of the shipping delay

I contacted them yesterday (it had been 2 weeks since I placed my order, which contained no pre-orders but did include a signed copy of The Front) and I received a very nice response this morning.

They are still waiting on the autographed copies of The Front to come in, which they are hoping should be sometime later this week. At that point those qualifying orders would be processed and shipped.

Thanks for the info. I'm one of those that was lucky/quick enough to snag one.

Thanks for letting us know that SAE confirms that TT dropped the ball again..

edit: I just received an e-mail back from SAE letting me know that the autographed copies just arrived. They said that anyone that had one ordered will have their order shipped within the next couple of days. Again, thanks to SAE for clearing it up and the big thumbs down to TT for not having the copies at SAE 2+ weeks ago when the item went live...

I'm with those who don't think the sale was a slap-in-the-face to their loyal customers at all, thanks Twiight Time!

Now if they re-pressed copies of their OOP titles, that would be a slap IMO.

Well some people better get prepared to get slapped because I would not be shocked if Fright Night makes it out after that three year window thing is up.

That reasoning would be true if obtaining the autographed copy was equal for everyone. Normally I can't place an order to even get within the first 100, or the autographed copy, because the server traffic goes crazy. When the site finally comes back, the auto copies are gone. It's a lot of luck really. I've been able to get 3 of the autographs so far I think, and would have gotten them all if they were readily available. My basic point is, the sale was open for everyone for a limited time, but anyone who knew about it and wanted to get copies had no problems (placing the order anyhow...delivery is another topic). The autographed copies is impossible for most (work, school, life stuff), and even those of us who are able to be there as soon as they go live sometimes get shut out too. 100 people each month are getting your deal.

they do but it's very limited (100), only a very few who are lucky enough to get one of the signed copies gets a deal, everyone else is out of luck, there have been many times that I had 4 titles in my cart, and backed out after not being able to snag one.
