Looks like they have a couple of AIP / Orion *old school* horror movies coming this year according to Facebook post response on their *Posts to page* section

Interesting. I guess we should find out the September/October slate in the next week or so?

I think if Disney were actually to release Song of the South, TT would be perfect for it. People who really want it can have a chance to grab it, but it wouldn't be a widespread release either. Disney seems to be paranoid about this title damaging their reputation or people starting an outcry over it, so by TT releasing the film, it would fly under most people's radars. I'd personally like Disney to just put out the film themselves, but if TT is the only way they would do it, then I'd still be ecstatic.

How about Dragonslayer. I know it is Paramount/Disney but we can hope.....

Sure, never a bad thing to release more 1980's fantasy films on blu-ray.

There would be a heck of a lot more than 3000 people interested in buying this if that were the case. I'm sure people who aren't even all that interested in the film itself would buy a copy just because Disney has created this "reputation" for it and once it sold out it, I'm sure re-sell prices would go through the roof. It would certainly bring more attention to TT, but I really don't Disney would ever go that route. If anything, I believe that Criterion would be the best choice if Song of the South were ever released. It would still be "independent" from Disney and I'm sure they would take the time and effort to produce the necessary documentaries discussing the film's historical relevance and controversies.

I'd be interested in seeing Midnight Madness on blu... although if Disney is licensing to others, that seems like an even-better fit for Shout! than it does TT.

I know it's animation and not live action but I would love to see The Black Cauldron. If Disney is not going to put it out themselves they should let Twilight Time do it.

Paramount owns the North America home video rights to that film, so it's really up to them to release it, or license it to someone else.

If Disney would ever decide to release it, they would do it themselves.

I'd love to see them do the 13th Warrior or the 3 Musketeers.

I'm VERY excited at the prospect of ANY old school AIP horrors. If I was forced to pare down my disc collection (both DVD and BD) to the barest of essentials, I'd have a core of old AIP movies.

I don't want to get too "wish listy" (not a real word) but I want to speak up for another group that is also part of the AIP/Orion/MGM family.

The iconic beach party movies of the early to mid 1960's came out of the same Alta Vista/American International Pictures/Orion/MGM pipeline that produced those classic horror films. All the major studios had their own beach-themed teenage movies during that era but it is a non-existent genre on Blu-ray.

The influence of those films lives today. In 2013, Disney did a spoof/homage to the original beach party films with their production of TEEN BEACH MOVIE. The synopsis begins as "Life's a beach for surfers Brady and McKenzie -- until a rogue wave magically transports them inside the classic '60s beach party flick...". and Disney made it available on DVD. So these are not films whose reach died out with swingin' 60's.

So I put in my wish for 1963's BEACH PARTY (but I'll take any and all sequels). Written by Winnipeg's own Lou Russof, when BEACH PARTY opened at the Garrick Theatre in Winnipeg, both Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello were here in attendance. I'd commit to a big, multi disc purchase for any of the beach party flicks.

Many a cold winter's day, I dig out the old DVD just to watch this:

If you're region-free or have a Panasonic player, the Arrow disc is quite good (although not taken from a new restoration) and has a great collection of extras.

I absolutely love Theatre of Blood (and what a stunning soundtrack!). To be honest, though, I watched it with my brother back in the day and he found it so cheesy it got my squirming, hah. I mean sure, it's not high art, but it's good, campy fun mixed with lots of gore.

Price's attempt at a Scottish accent is hilarious and I can't say no to Diana Rigg.

I completely agree. I actually submitted Song of the South as a suggestion to Criterion a couple years ago. Of course it's a shot in the dark, but there's always hoping.

There's no reason for Disney not to let it be released, or at the very least licence it to somebody respectable like Criterion. The film does have its issues in terms of racial sensitivity but by keeping it hidden away behind lock and key it's gaining an undeserved reputation that it's some kind of monstrously racist film. If Birth of a Nation (which IS monstrously racist) can be readily available then there's no reason for SOTS not to be. If you don't want to market it to kids, fine. Let Criterion (or some other third party) release it for the "adult collector" and have parents make that decision.

Anyway, rant over, sorry to derail the thread. Looking forward to watching my Thunderbirds films this weekend - yah Twilight Time!

Once it's released it will be all over the net no matter who releases it, I think Disney wants to bury it forever or else they will look pretty foolish if they suddenly turn around and release it after all these years (It not a very good film either, I remember having to sit through this on a double bill with some animated feature - wasn't a fun film for me as a kid)

On TT's Facebook page someone posted asking about Cutter's Way, At Close Range, Miami Blues and State of Grace. TT replied back indicating that 2 of those mentioned titles would be released within the next couple of years. Hoping one of those is Cutter's Way.
