But back at the beginning of home video, the studios started running into the problem of music rights holders claiming that home video formats were not part of the original contracts, and wanted new contracts for more money. The studios responded by substituting different music. Things got (mostly) resolved by the late 90s, and the original music was restored for a lot of films on DVD. I don't know if Used Cars might've been in this boat. It was released by Columbia, and it seems to me that most (but probably not all) of the music substitutions were done by Paramount and Universal. The DVD (released in 2001) doesn't say anything about the music being changed or restored. I should be getting the BD today, and I'll be sure to compare it against the DVD. But chances are, Twilight Time used whatever master Sony gave them, and it will probably be the same as on the DVD. |

Just for laughs, I also checked the IMDb. Nary a word mentioned about an "alternate version" other than that CBS cut about seven minutes from it (undoubtedly the stripper scenes) for its TV broadcast. I didn't even see any reference in any of the message board threads (I only checked the thread titles) to changes in the soundtrack. So, bottom line is that I think you're misrembering it. It happens. There are undoubtedly still people who claim to have seen "Episode IV: A New Hope" in the beginning scrawl in the original release of Star Wars. |

Sometimes you have to deal with the devil for those must-have releases. For me the one Woody Allen TT release that is a definite must-have is Radio Days (infinitely re-watchable for me), with a 3 or 4 others possible (Love and Death, Broadway Danny Rose, Purple Rose and maybe Crimes and Misdemeanors). As a rule, I prefer the funny Woody Allen to the serious Woody Allen. For me that will be max $150 and that cost will be spread out over the next 12 months or so, if those titles don't sell out by then (unlikely). For the rest, I'll make do with up-converted DVDs.

I can find no evidence that there exists any alternate version of the film. Period. Take that however you want to. Sheesh. |

I assume Screen Archives doesn't charge the same base rate for each title if you buy more than one Blu-ray at a time. It sucks having to pay the base rate twice if for whatever reason you buy multiple BDs just a couple of hours apart. You sort of hope someone notices it's the same person placing the order and ships everything in one package. Lesson learned: make up your mind and buy everything at the same time. Unless, of course, they do charge per unit.

OK. I've no corroborating evidence. Unless you can show me what you've seen, the "facts" are not in front of me. You can talk all you want about recording the movie and watching it every single day for the past 30 years, but if you can't show anyone else this "proof", then it doesn't count as "proof".

I always find it amusing when someone goes on a forum looking for an answer from other people, and then reacts as if there's a conspiracy against them when they don't find the answer they're looking for.

If the whole Used Cars soundtrack thing is true, than it just means that they changed the soundrack for TV...not shocking considering that's happened before...but really who cares, this is the theatrical cut, and I'd guess a TV cut with gimped music isn't getting a release.

Too many periods and commas, not enough exclamation points to have a valid argument.
