I watched Two Rode Together earlier this evening, and I'm impressed. It's a great-looking disc, and the movie is an interesting "evil twin" of John Ford's The Searchers. It's also a good example of James Stewart's versatility as an actor. It's always fun to see noir veteran Richard Widmark in films like this.

I just had an idea for this thread...
I don't know if it sounds stupid or if it's possible to do, so I'll shoot and you'll be able to tell me to go away or if you think it's a good idea.

I see the first post of the thread is updated regularly which is very cool.
I don't have Facebook and maybe I'm not the only one, so I thought that there would be a nice way to improve this first post by adding something's missing right now.
I thought it would be nice to add the list of the titles that are "about to be sold out", so that every one could know the priority titles to get when they place an order.

For example, right now, I completely lost track and I don't know which ones are about to be sold out. And I searched for the info without any luck.
Maybe someone could help?

Anyway, I just watched Thunderbolt & Lightfoot and it's still the great cooooool movie I remembered.

Hope Used Cars and Bring me the head of Alfredo Garcia won't get sold out before next month...

That would be a helpful addition IMO. Not sure how the site would go about updating the quantity available for each title though.

And it does look like film damage, not a glitchy disc. But just in case, do the others of you who ordered this title see the same thing?

I watched The Train last night. One of my favorite films, and a great Burt Lancaster performance. I have seen it a couple of times on TV or DVD over the years, but it has been a long time since my last viewing. There is what appears to be heavy staining - almost like water or chemical damage - in the end titles. This is where it is most noticeable in the film, right there at the end. Staining/white splotches also appear briefly during the meeting of the underground members aboard the river barge and in a few other places, but it is not heavy and relatively benign. The transfer is otherwise gorgeous, luminous black and white, lots of detail and depth of field.

This sort of thing often happens with Blu-ray. Often they go back and scan negatives, etc, that don't have any titles on them. Then they have to find a copy, often much used, that has the titles on them. In some cases they have to recreate the titles (and sometimes make mistakes) in order to get a good HD version. e.g. see Hitchcock's Frenzy credits.

I watched The Man from Laramie last night, and was hugely impressed. It's a great-looking disc, and the New Mexico landscapes are breathtaking.

I love how Shakespeare's stories influenced classic Western films, namely Jubal (Othello) and The Man from Laramie (King Lear).

James Stewart is great in one of his darker roles, and I also enjoyed watching Arthur Kennedy (The Window, High Sierra) in action. Of course, everyone loves Cathy O'Donnell (The Best Years of Our Lives), and she is perfect here.

Onward to Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison...

I just finished watching Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison. What a great movie! It's a more subdued and low-key companion to Huston's The African Queen, and it hits all of the right notes with some great work from Robert Mitchum and Deborah Kerr. The high definition transfer on this Blu-ray is not the best, but that does not matter. I loved every second of this one.

The subject matter of this film reminds me that I should get around to buying the Olive Films Blu-ray of Father Goose at some point.

Onward to Used Cars...

It would be nice if Universal would put out the other great Stewart/Kennedy western Bend of the River

I wish that they'd just put out an Anthony Mann/James Stewart box with the above two, plus The Far Country, Thunder Bay, and The Glenn Miller Story. And if they could license them from MGM and Paramount respectively, add The Naked Spur and Strategic Air Command.

Naked Spur is Warner, but maybe an archive release will come out someday.

I just finished watching Used Cars, and I'm quite pleased with this Blu-ray.

In all honesty, it never occurred to me to buy this title when it was first announced, but I still jumped at the chance to grab the free autographed title when it came available during the pre-order last month. I never had full-tilt belly laughs while I was watching Used Cars, but it's a lot funnier and less dated than I imagined going into it. It's great seeing Kurt Russell in an early comedy role. I'll likely be revisiting this disc more than I would have imagined. I'm of the opinion that real-life deceitful used car salesmen cannot get to Hell fast enough, but I still found myself sympathizing with these subversive characters and rolling along quite well with the fun-spirited satire. As the commentary track and booklet cite, this is basically a Capra film turned upside down.

Onward to The Train...

I just watched Used Cars myself a couple hours ago and agree with everything you said. The commentary track even makes it a little funnier, just hearing Russell, Gale, and Zemeckis laughing at several moments while watching the film. A fun, funny, little gem of a comedy that I'm glad I picked up thanks to other members' recommendations.

Didn't want to write this twice in their respective threads but, does anyone have any screenshot comparisons of the TT and European release of Oliver and The Way We Were?
Which is better?

From TT's facebook: "From SAE:

WILD AT HEART fewer than 400 remaining
BRING ME THE HEAD OF ALFREDO GARCIA fewer than 500 remaining
ROLLERBALL fewer than 500 remaining
One copy per person limit now on these 3 titles."

Also, bad news: "Twilight Time regrets to announce that our planned August 12th release of the Jerome Kern classic musical CENTENNIAL SUMMER on blu-ray has been indefinitely postponed. This is due to ongoing and unresolved rights issues that prevent the film from being made available to home video at this time. It is hoped that one day in the not too distant future this situation will be rectified, but in the meantime we will adjust and revise our schedule accordingly. Along with many of you we are disappointed that the wait for this long out-of-print film will continue for that bit longer...."
