Now, I'm conflicted about doing this because it was told in confidence, but it almost seems official at this point. I was chatting with Nick Redman who is a very, very nice man. Made some small talk, was going to order a title and wanted to know which one I should get, as in, I'll be getting both, but which one is going out-of-print faster between "Used Cars" and "The Mechanic", he told me "Used Cars" will be sold out before "The Mechanic."

Then I asked this..
Quote:
...you probably have to keep this under wraps, but your re-issuing some titles that quickly went out-of-print next year possibly? I'm thinking of two very popular horror titles in particular that I missed out on.
To which he responded..

You'll probably be in luck...!

Outstanding!

I will kindly request that the rest of you in this thread stay out of my way, and wait until I have placed an order for Man Hunt myself before you place the Blu-ray into your own carts. Thanks in advance.

Never seen man hunt but I did enjoy Lang's M. I will probably rent it and then decide on if I want to buy the upgrade.

Really looking forward to this one. I like the cover, but not quite as great as The Big Heat.

The Big Heat is my favorite Twilight Time title. It's also moved pretty high up on my list of movies in general.

Incidentally, I just checked after reading the above counts from other people and it turns out that I have 27 Twilight Time titles in my collection as well. That number will go up to 35 during the week of June 10, though, since I darn near bought out the whole store during the last pre-order.

2. Mysterious Island 11/8/11
3. Fight Night 12/13/11
4. Journey to Center of the Earth 5/8/12
5. Big Heat 5/8/12
6. Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machine 7/10/12
7. Steel Magnolias 9/11/12
8. Enemy Mine 10/9/12
9. NOLD 10/9/12

So the Jan and March releases can only be Fright Night, Mysterious Island and Egyption.
August can only be up to #6 TMMITFM (IMO a title from #4-#6)
Oct can be anyone of them, but I would think it would be a title from #7-#9.

My guesses:
Jan15-Fright Night-start off with a bang to drive traffic to the site and release it closer to the INTL versions (the longer it is available overseas, the more that people will find out about it).

Mar15 - Mysterious Island
Aug15 - Journey (or Big Heat but think it will be Journey)
Oct15 - NOLD

Look at what Nick Redman has to say about "Fright Night" & "Christine" or "Night of the Living Dead '90" being re-issued in my post like 6 or 7 posts up when I asked him about it vaguely.

just a thought on some of the 2012 releases...the 3 year license agreement may not start the same day the title is released...it may have started earlier

Agreed. Supporting a label or a retailer is rarely one of my primary reasons for buying something but it occasionally makes for a pretty good tie-breaker.

Frankly, I am ecstatic they are doing this. I have all of the 2012 titles, so it won't affect me at all. I am just happy more people will get a chance to own these films. This is the way it should be. I am not a fan of their business model at all, particularly when limiting the number of releases for titles where the demand is greater than the supply. But it is how they choose to operate so I play the game like anyone else who wants these films. They underestimated demand for some of these titles, and so they are giving fans another chance. And that chance won't come for another six months to over a year from now. These are still a long ways out, just to keep things in perspective.

If TT has access to more supplemental material or a better scan this time around, then I am happy they are using them. I don't have any plans to double dip, and if someone just has to have the latest and greatest, then go for it. But that in no way diminishes the value or urgency of getting a first round release. Not every sell out will get a re-release anyway, and do you really want to wait three more years to save $30 on a chance it will get re-released? Not me. I don't give a rat's patootie that I have a limited copy of Fright Night that it is rare and valuable and not everyone has it. I am not that kind of collector. I want everyone who wants a copy to be able to get one. Now fans are getting another chance at it (as it seems likely to be one of the four reissues) along with whatever the other three reissues turn out to be.

I absolutely hate the whole limited edition thing, having to be ready every month like a Jeopardy contestant when there is a popular title which I want (and think should not be limited in the first place), making sure I am by a computer or able to order on my phone within a few hours of pre-orders going live. But TT has at least shown a willingness to adapt and to accommodate fans of these films within the confines of their business model, such as getting a higher limit from Sony for The Blob, limiting quantities per customer on some titles, and now being able to reissue four popular titles that sold out (and to reissue them with additional features, etc). This selective re-licensing is great news, and seemed likely to happen anyway once the exclusivity period is over given Sony's attitude toward their catalog on blu-ray. Best of all, the scalpers are going to have to adjust to a new reality.

Just my two cents.
Good take. The more I think about it, I don't really care either if they re-issue titles, that won't stop me from buying their new stuff if I want them.

I've got all the OOP ones and Big Heat is the only one truly essential to me, + that already looks great, I doubt that I would upgrade for extras.

Looks like TT is porting over the special features from the DVD and adding an isolated score track, all of which is much appreciated. Plus, that cover looks great.

And to CC's credit, their barebones edition was a cheaper price, not sold or marketed as a limited edition, and was announced with the information that a "deluxe" package would be released at a later date. In fact, they still have that information prominently on the BitWC page on the CC website.

This is just an example of why CC isn't a good comparison to TT.

And you pick only the second half of my comment to mock, but not the first? So, do you really think it's Twilight Time's fault that a 4K scan of <whichever title they're upgrading from a 4K scan> didn't exist in 2011?
First I'll apologize a bit for my mocking tone earlier. But all the points still stand.

And I didn't ignore your first point, early TT releases didn't have scene selection or subtitles. They didn't include extras because they didn't feel the need to, not because extras didn't exists. Are we really expected them to commission or produce more extras for Fright Night or Mysterious Island?

It took TT at least a year to start to get the hang of producing a Blu ray. That is not to say that every other company always nail it, but other companies didn't market their products as "the last chance to see". So comparing a TT upgrade to a CC upgrade is apples and oranges.

None of this is new information, and TT is always going to be TT. I for one don't mind that they are making more of these available, quite the contrary. I just wish the "Last Chance to See" edition was as good as the "Hey We Sold This One Out" edition.

I don't get it either. I own all but two of the sold out titles and I think it is great thing that others will have the opportunity to have these titles. In my opinion a lot of these posts from people not liking the re-issues seems petty. I look at it in a positive view that another 3000+ people can enjoy these titles and it just seems like some are upset because they will not be as "special" because they have Blu-rays no one else can get.

Re-issues happen all the time from all distributors. In fact once the exclusivity agreement ends another distributor could see that TT sold out a title quickly (showing the film has a market) and that other distributor re-issue it.

It is time we move on and start discussing what this thread is really meant to be about ... The actual releases and films released.

If anyone is upset that they are releasing these again there is a problem. If you want to collect something of value choose precious metals or stamps. Maybe even rare Baseball cards? Blu Rays are not collectors items they are films. Maybe even Criterion will get the rights to The Third Man again.

baseball cards are harder to unload than vhs, unless they're 40+ years old or professionally graded (and flawless - tho they'd still be worth less than the cost to grade).

If TT re-released NOTLD '90, do you think there's a chance they'd use a different master (without the blue tint)?

Who knows? They might release a different movie and slap NOTLD on the cover still. Nothing is known but feel free to follow this thread for breaking news.

Comics are pretty much worthless too unless they're from the 60's and earlier plus in great shape. Got a whole box of 80's and 90's comics from my childhood, worth less than the printed price on them, maybe worth less than the paper itself haha. Got half a closet full of cards too, complete baseball Topps sets from 1983 through 1993, worth thousands in 1994, worth maybe $50-100 today. My mom sure was glad when I got a place big enough to clear up her closet space haha.

I plan on donating the comics to a child center at some point (minus a few that I'll frame for decoration). The cards will stay in the closet, my grandfather put together the sets for the first 10 years of my life. It was his idea of a college fund before the bottom dropped out, it was everybody's idea as well.

I'd say an OOP blu or DVD actually holds its value better than cards, comics or VHS (unless they're obscure horror). But as with anything, don't buy things hoping they'll appreciate, buy them because you enjoy them. If they're worth anything down the road, bonus!

It really boils down to younger generations not really caring about the medium. They just want everything neatly collected and cheap as hell. They don't want to work to piece together comic books in runs because it's time and cost prohibitive to them. Digital comics are good but when it ends up being the only choice to be able to read comics I'm probably out all together. Just going to be buying older runs I really want to own still.

The funny thing is that people who want everything dirt cheap are the same ones that complain that GameStop gives so little for their traded in games. Or that blu-ray cases at now Eco just because they are cheaper for companies. What's good for the goose isn't good for the gander, I think that makes sense with what I posted before. If not let me know with a comment below.
