That's pretty cool. I can't see myself dropping 30 bucks on Fright Night, especially since I'm pretty happy with my cheap dvd. Christine is good, but I can't see myself ever wanting to watch it again.

I'm hoping for The Big Heat and the Sinbads.

If it has been released on VHS, then laserdisc, then DVD and remains relatively popular, why is there no chance that Fox would release it on BD? I would much rather they release it themselves than have it come out at 3 times the cost by Twilight Time.

I missed out on the first issue so I'm glad they are releasing it again.

Why is everyone so sure Mysterious Island will be re-released? I thought that took a year to sell out? The 4K scan I think will be Journey To The Center of The Earth. The Blu-ray doesn't look that good and could use improvement.

It will be fun. Also going to be fun seeing the flood of these hitting Ebay when the reprint is announced.

There are a lot of us who wish we'd been around to get Mysterious Island the first time around. I don't think there's any reason to think that it won't sell well. A title doesn't have to sell out quickly to be worth doing. Consider what you said: it took a year to sell out (nota bene: I don't actually know that that's true, but let's assume it if only for the sake of the present argument), but had a 3-year license. So, when you look at it that, it was a quick seller. I don't think that TT's reason for reissuing OOP titles is necessarily to sell them out quickly.

Secondly, they will be limited in what titles they reissue by which ones have 3-year licenses that will be expiring. Someone a few pages back made up a list of which titles will be expiring when, and when the reissues are supposed to be released to come up with an educated guess as to which titles are the most likely to be reissued when. While there are no guarantees, Mysterious Island is a pretty good bet.

I think most people are assuming that the 4K scan title will be Journey to the Center of the Earth, though the problems with that title won't disappear with only a higher-resolution scan. The question is whether Fox did any restoration on it, and if they did, the question becomes, why would they go through the time and expense of doing a restoration only to license it out to someone else instead of releasing it themselves.

Looks like my package, which should have been delivered today, at the latest (it shipped "Priority Mail 2-Day" on Tuesday), went to the wrong post office. At least whoever got it (po box) seems to have decided not to keep it, but beginning to look like Saturday now.

Although it does appear that the package has left that building on the way to who knows where else today, so maybe...

All these decades later the story is much more powerful (now recognizing most of the artworks as well as many of the French actors), and I can much better appreciate the brilliant B&W camera work and frequent use of long elaborate takes, not to mention the pre-CGI practical special effects and stunts performed by Lancaster himself. The details of running and maintaining the train engines is also far more engrossing. Of course seeing on a big screen looking so sharp also helps a lot.
Mine's on the way supposedly, but I did catch it on MGM HD channel a month or so ago. Think I must have seen (at least some of) it on TV as a kid too, or maybe even at the drive-in, it had a familiarness to it but that's about the best I could come up with while watching it... Looking forward to giving it a spin.

I can't complain about shipping times once SAE gets the package out the door. My most recent order departed Merrifield, Virginia early yesterday morning. 32 hours and 900+ driving miles later, the package was in my mailbox this morning (at around 10:00). And I live in an out-of-the-way small town too. I'm impressed.

It's fair to say that the early releases simply weren't well known due to TT's infancy. It's also fair to say it should probably sell out faster, since it took so long in the first place.

Also, nowadays, we expect every TT release to sell out, even when they don't.
But it's just nature to take the company's view, think not everybody's going to go for the little known 60's-70's classic right away, and say, "I'll get Rollerball....next month. "
Some of us have to, y'know, and we're the ones who end up suffering for it.

It would be nice if I every other paragraph wasn't about the TT costs or limited quantity. This is how they run their business folks. Get over it already.

Well, yes, it would be. It would be nice to talk about the movies, with nothing else to worry about. But no, the company does have to keep feeding those 2-ton elephants in the room.

Yes. The time lag between ordering and shipping varies considerably, but once they drop it in the mail, it's here in a flash.

Still waiting for you to post a link where TT said these would never be released again. Perhaps you think it's ok to attribute things to people they never said. Is that classy?

A lot has been said, plus and minus, about TT's business model. But one thing is pretty clear: that they do have this business model tells us that they're not in it to make a quick buck. Which is why I think they might be more inclined to reissue any OOP title, regardless of how well they think it might sell, rather than just go with the quick sellers.

That's even reflected in the choices they've made after they released various of the hot sellers. Even after it was clear that the hot titles were the 70s/80s/90s horror/thriller films, they've continued to license and release a wide variety of films rather than focus on the ones they would be sure would be hot.

How quickly is The Train likely to sell out.
I missed it in my order last week and don't really wanna pay postage again so soon.
I also notice Bring me the head of Alfredo Garcia is close to selling out, so if I have to order The Train now, will probably order that with it maybe...
What do people suggest?

I don't mean to sound mean, but unless someone here works for TT or SAE, there's no real way to know how quickly any of their titles will sell out.

TT usually puts a mention on their Facebook page if a title drops to 500-700 copies, which is usually the point where people will say "If you want this title, you probably should order it real soon." But even when a title hits 500 copies, there really isn't a way of knowing whether it'll be completely sold out in a week or in a month or even in three months.

At any rate, there has been nothing to suggest that The Train has gotten that low, though the restriction of only being able to order one copy suggests that it's been selling briskly.

Basically, if you want a given title and are worried that it'll go OOP soon, bite the bullet and order it.
