Something else I just noticed oildude...except for Fright Night which was a 'lightning strike' release in a class by itself, there's another pattern emerging for these TT magnets: it's not the source studio but the price of the Blu-ray. The $34.95 titles get the fridge accessory, not the $29.95 ones.

If true, that means we'll get a Bite the Bullet magnet next month, and probably one for Bell, Book, and Candle the month after that (assuming it's priced at $34.95 like the other Novak movies). This also means I just proved why I'm going to lose my "gentleman's bet" with you. Drat...

Put in Rapture today and discovered it had no English subs. Big fail on the part of TT... I doubt I'll be buying from them again.

??? Lots of English language movies have no English subtitles, except for SDH captioning, and quite often not all (e.g. early Anchor Bay). I don't understand why that would specifically be considered a "fail" retablo.

95% or more of blu-rays have English subs, whether they be standard or SDH. I suffer form intermittent hearing loss and need subs to watch movies. I guess I won't be checking this out.

It's pretty sad when you fail to cater to a huge demographic or people with hearing impairments. Fright Night had English subs, but they apparently dropped the ball on this one.

Subtitles are a touchy subject with some people. Personally, I think they should be absolutely standard. I don't personally use them, but I've met enough people who depend on them that I think it is they should be a given on every release.

Not to mention, years ago I looked into a job subtitling things and the pay was not good. It can't be that expensive an addition. But since TT had to be convinced to include scene selection, it isn't a shock to see them omitted.

Mysterious Island, Picnic, Fright Night have them... The Egyptian and Rapture do not. I wish studios would keep some form of standards and practices so they don't alienate customers, especially for the prices they charge.

I think Sony requires TT to include English subtitles, but Fox has no such stipulation.

I thought it was that TT, as a micro company, simply doesn't have the resources to do captioning. If the transfer they buy from the studio has it, they are glad to put it on. If it doesn't, they just don't have the ability to fix that...

But, the order page for a particular title should clearly indicate whether a release has captioning or not.

having English subs should be standard on any bd release imo.
I was shocked that The Egyptian did not have them. I don't know how much control TT has over this issue, but they should do everything they can to make sure English subs are on every release imo.
especially given the price point of these releases.

Great interview with Nick Redman, one of the people behind Twilight Time, with the Home Theater Forums:

http://www.hometheaterforum.com/t/31...model-and-more

"Maybe I am being naïve but I think that the person that's going to buy the Mysterious Island Blu-ray for $35 has got some knowledge. We are going for people who are discerning--we aren’t going for the people that would pick this up for $7.99 at Wal-Mart on a whim. They throw in some carpet rolls and what not and suddenly they see a Blu-ray for $7.99, they throw that in the basket as well? That's not our audience.

We are ourselves collectors. We are ourselves lifelong movie buffs. We are putting them out, and if we didn’t put them out it is likely that they wouldn’t come out. And we are going to try to put them out in the way that we would like to see them, which means that we are always going to try to have the best picture and sound that we can and if I can get the music on there as a special feature I will. And that's the way we would like to do it, and I would like to do other features if we get better at this, and if we can sell better in the future than we are right now, we will look into it."

I too think every blu ray release should include subtitles. Sometimes it's good to have them on when you can't turn up the volume.

I haven't seen Demetrius and the Gladiators since its first, rather unremarkably transferred DVD release. So even if this TT Blu is not exactly a "blind buy" for me, I'm sure I've forgotten enough about it to freshen the experience. As I recall, it was a good to very good movie, just very different than The Robe in 'emphasis' and 'tone'...more action spectacle than internal religious struggle. In full 2.55:1 'Scope* it should be a stunner on Blu.

* remastered by the same Fox team who did such exceptional work on The Robe and The Egyptian.
Not to take this thread off of Twilight Time ROclockCK but finaly found time to watch Quo Vadis last night and I liked it. It just blows my mind when watching this (and other films of this type) the number of people it took to film some of those scenes. Need to check out the special features now.

Did you know originally Quo Vadis was going to star Gregory Peck and Elizabeth Taylor?

But Robert Taylor and Deborah Kerr are good too.

Whoa, As Good as It Gets is on its way? Chalk me up for Twilight Time release #3 (after Fright Night and The Big Heat). Pretty shocked that Sony decided to let that one go...

Tell me about it! It got a crap load of Academy Award nominations and won 2 for best actor and best actress. Sounds like a strange move on Sonys part

It might make sense if they were going to shelve it until a 20th Anniversary release (in 2017) anyway.

If that's the case why not release it now and just rerelease it for the 20th anniversary? 5 years down the road is pretty far away. I don't think you'd be angering too many customers with a rerelease that far down the road. It's not like studios are adverse to rereleases

It just seems like a really big title to license to such a small distributor.
