Big for Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte!

Thinking about how movie scores go with a lot of Twilight Time releases, I think one they should seriously consider would be The Last Valley (1971). This movie boasts one of John Barry's greatest and little known scores (in my opinion). It also has beautiful cinematography but has only been released in a shabby looking, non-anamorphic DVD.

Upgrade is seriously needed on this!

Why them or Criterion haven't snatched this one up to release is beyond me.

The Last Valley is a film I'm curious about but have never seen. I think, if anyone, Twilight Time would take a chance on this one. It was an expensive failure at the time and part of the reason, I think, was that it dealt with a war that most Americans had never heard of. Like Zulu or Khartoum, I can't imagine it being a fast seller.

Has there been any news on any new low quantity titles the last update in the original post was from November.
Or are there any hot new titles I should order?

I agree. But I would hope it could sell 3000 copies. It would sell several just for John Barry's isolated score alone and also the fact that it never got a decent DVD release.Plus you have Michael Caine and Omar Sharif in starring roles.

I found Zulu to be quite dull but I was fascinated with The Last Valley.

Most likely because it's a piece of crap?

Still, you're right, it has some nice cinematography, a John Barry score, and good star power with Caine and Sharif, but the plot itself is overlong and dull.

If Criterion or Twilight Time paid much attention to that, then their catalogs would be substantially smaller.

Well according to you anyway

I believe Disney owns The Last Valley now, & I'd think it would need a full restoration, which it probably won't get. And remember, TT doesn't do any work on a film apart from commentaries & isolated scores.

Really? I thought everything that Criterion released was a masterpiece.

Of course. That's all that matters.

Nope. But their releases have what really matters...a number on the spine.

The Last Vally is sadly is Disney. I doubt we will ever see a BD of this one.

It's been ages since I watched it, but I recall it being a very good movie, beautiful to look at. And, of course, Michael Caine.

I have to rewatch it to refresh my memory. Until then, I'll procrastinate from lambasting baheidstu.

I thought MGM had the home video rights, but I can never keep track of these things. I know that Kino Lorber is releasing Candy, which is another ABC/Cinerama film. There are some good films in that catalog. I'd love to see Junior Bonner.

Agree 100% on Junior Bonner. I know I am in the minority on this but that is my 2nd fave film of the Steve McQueen filmography and Peckinpah's. Behind, fittingly enough, their other master collaboration THE GETAWAY.

Junior Bonner is a good film. Considering Nick Redman's well known love of Sam Peckinpah, I think if this became available for licencing and nobody else beat them to the punch, Twilight Time would surely release it.

Anchor Bay originally had the DVD rights to the ABC/CRC catalog (my copy of The Last Valley is from them), but they went over to MGM about 12 years ago or thereabouts. I'm still waiting for MGM to license out Hell in the Pacific and Charly from that catalog.

Excellent. I just ordered my first TWILIGHT TIME Blu Ray a few minutes ago with The Last Detail, would gladly add Junior Bonner if it ever becomes available.

Just purchased The Last Detail. First time ordering through TT's site & not SAE. Seemed super easy.

I am really disappointed that I have no commentary tracks to look forward to on todays pre-orders. I love my Redman/ Kirgo / Dobbs and more commentary tracks.

Perhaps they had no thoughts on these films or maybe the licensor said no.

I will say I am excited for The Happy Ending for sure. Watched it years ago on Netflix and enjoyed it.

Went with TT's site for my pre-orders as well. Very quick and easy, I'll be using them from now on for all my TT orders
