Well, we still haven't seen the insert artwork for either title Flex. Besides, the booklet always includes the original poster artwork on the last page, so I never fret over the cover interpretation departing from that. Most TT covers have been very distinctive and I like that.

And I also like what I've seen of Night of the Living Dead so far...it's minimal yet iconic. Obviously, the following still inspired it:

As for the Enemy Mine cover...well, not really my cup 'o joe. As you say, it seems a bit "faux-bro"...I mean, there's no expression of human/alien friendship in this movie which is that simplistic or obvious. At least it isn't the nth reproduction of the the original head-to-head 1-sheet art, and the title lettering is very nice. I don't hate it. Guess I'll get used to it.

With the higher cost of these TT releases, they should just do dual covers ala Synapse and Arrow.

I fail to see how that NOTLD cover is iconic, at least not in the sense of it being synonymous with the film. Not a fan of the chosen font either.

Night of the Living Dead should definitely have subtitles, and Enemy Mine probably will, as well.

Regarding the covers: Sorry, but they're both disasters. Seems like TT really goes out of their way to muck up the cover art... If anything, they should hold a contest each month, and let the fans pick the cover or something.

Yep, I don't know why TT don't just use the original film poster art. I didn't think Journey To The Centre Of The Earth was very good, & The Egyptian was a really crude version of the poster, but then again, does it really matter.

This.

And I agree with others - both covers are horrible.

Quite like the NOTLD cover, not so hot about Enemy Mine.

Oh and I know TT praise can already get a little sickly in this thread sometimes, but I just wanted to say that after listening to him on the Double Indemnity commentary, Nick Redman has a very soothing aged British accent

It is...or was. I was merely noting that this cover takes a core element from previous home video artwork and reworks it for starker horror effect:

This image appeared on early 90s VHS, DVD, and even Laserdisc releases, both domestically and internationally, but was redone for subsequent re-issues. It's "iconic" in the sense of using one simple striking zombie image to represent many.

We've become "flexible" in our modern usage of that word, for sure...

Expectations are a funny thing Yankees0222. I don't think it has hit some folks yet how appropriate that cover is for both this movie and the collection.

Of course 'iconic' in its strictest sense is just what ROclockCK demonstrated it to be - 'art executed according to a convention or tradition' - in this case a part of the old cover art. But there are certainly other pieces were are arguably more 'iconic' in that they are more strongly associated with the film, such as this poster, or possibly even the DVD cover:

I just think they could have used something which immediately calls to mind 'NOTLD 1990', rather than something which leaves us cold.

Well, we haven't seen the insert cover yet BarnDoor, and the original poster will no doubt be reproduced on the back cover of the 8-page booklet.

This is only where our opinions really differ regarding this cover. To me, it did "immediately call to mind" NOTLD 1990, while also shrewdly echoing the original. If anything, my eyebrow initially arched because it did not include what I would have considered an essential above-title credit, "George A. Romero's". But then, after looking at it again, I realized, "Hey, not necessary...this art evokes the Romero style at a glance...it could be from none other."

I think this cover is much stronger because of that ruthless, reductive simplicity.

Perhaps the absence of significant original elements in the cover art has something to do with studios refusing to license related intellectual property, in the same vein as their refusal to license extant extra features?

The NOTLD art can certainly be improved upon, but it still beats out both the VHS art and the original poster. Just because it came first doesn't necessarily mean they got it right. I cannot stand the cream background that they've used. It's NIGHT of the Living Dead, isn't it? The TT art at least evokes that simple aspect.

Perhaps, but looking at all of the '68 NOTLD posters, they all had a dark/night/black motif to them.
