You people...

YOu still don't get it - it's not ACCURATE. TT doesn't press all the discs at one time, so the number you're seeing may represent 2000 discs not 3000, in which case your numbers would be - well - slightly off. Any way you look at it - not accurate and a game that is not only silly, but best not played at all. It's selling what it's selling. Why is it so important? If it's going to sell out you'll have PLENTY of notice when it gets to 500 remaining. That's the only numbers game that has any relevance.

But the count started at 3000 so why wouldn't it be accurate? If it went from 3000 down to 1775, is that not 1275 copies sold? Not asking to be confrontational.... Just wondering

I don't blame anyone for being skeptical about the accuracy of SAE's cart count. Here is what it currently shows for all TT titles (including both Blu-rays and DVDs):

Of the 30 TT titles currently listed on SAE, a whopping 21 of them still show no sales whatsoever. Only a mere 5 of TT's Blu-ray titles even deliver results when you game the cart this way.

So...not an especially "reliable" source for quantities remaining.

* Oh look, I'm getting a break on shipping!

Their database isn't probably set up like that though. The QoH could be reflective of each titles attributes either internally displaying the QoH to restock and each title they enter may or may not have the corresponding attribute to display the total via user side and may be back end server side only.

The count we are looking at for both NOTLD and Enemy Mine is very close if not prefectly accurate. Both counts started at 3,000 and decreased at a very fast rate intitally and gradually slower, and now even more so. They cannot accept more than 3,000 pre-orders and they have no idea how many pre-orders and at what rate they will be getting. Thus, start with the max 3,000 and reduce the quantities available as the pre-orders come in. That is the only way for them to do it.

Titles already released, they can pretty much estimate demand and can set the cart at 3,000 without any worries...apples to oranges. Whitesheik knows the TT owners, but I know numbers when I see them.

Whereas through Amazon, it won't charge until it ships. Thanks in advance guys!
They don't charge until they ship.

Although the numbers for all four other than NOTLD look just where one would reasonably expect them to be.

I was hoping that EM would take a while to sell out (so I could buy it at a later time) but it appears to be selling very well. A smart move on TT's part to release NOTLD and EM at the same time. I am still debating whether to buy EM or not.

I would respectfully disagree Blu Titan. Although I don't work for TT, I have worked in IT for 35 years, specializing in customer databases and billing/support systems. It is a cornerstone of the discipline that when tracking any limited supply, you must know at all times exactly how many widgets are available for sale/disposition, including returns/replacements, and deplete your stock counts accordingly.

My abiding point in the previous post was precisely what I demonstrated via direct hands-on testing earlier this evening, mainly to satisfy my own curiosity...that those SAE cart totals are "inaccurate", and thus "unreliable". Whatever the client or server side reason for those inconsistent display results is kind of beside the point. It just doesn't work...at least not all, or even most of the time...although I am willing to concede that you might be 'ballpark' right about the NOTLD90 and Enemy Mine sales totals from today...heck, I might even more or less share that opinion.

Nevertheless, given the evidence of the site's behaviour, it's still, at best, merely a "guestimate".

Yeah, which is why I'm not prepared to say that the cart totals are complete science fiction NoirFan. It's the randomness of how they display both individually and in aggregate that gives me pause.

I seem to recall one of the previous sellouts - Journey or Mysterious Island - which was still showing over 100 via the cart even as folks were receiving their "sold out" e-mails.

Databases existed long before Web eCommerce HyperRealist. Back then it was all mainframe DBMS anyway, and IT was called MIS.

Even the Web had a previous life as ARPANET. I had my first research connection via one of my clients back in '88. And yes, I really am that old.

The "guestimate" will be very close on NOTLD and we will see in the upcoming weeks. Once the title is released then it becomes imposible to estimate how much is left as the allocation of available units will change. In the case of a title like Cover Girl, which has probably only sold a few hundred copies, maybe TT only had 1,000 made to begin with. But you can safely asume that TT is ordering the full allotment of 3,000 units for NOTLD. Either way it does not mean anything to me .

You may be right.
After blu-ray, I think there will be another push with 4K, maybe even 8K on some catalog titles, but beyond that it's all stream.
4K/8K quality will ultimately depend on the source/film stock and photography style, along with progression in film scan technology and post-processing. Optimistically, Maybe half of the S35 movies will show marginal, maybe even some surprising improvements in 4K. Whereas Vistavision and 70mm films should really start to shine from 4K into 8K.

Because as the poster above points out - it's all arbitrary. Can you not see that?
