Because there are people who will put off buying it for various reasons because they believe it's not selling as well as it appears (even though it is) and might miss out on getting one.

The fact of the matter is, it will have sold ~ 1600 copies in a 24 hour period. It's going extremely fast. I think it's good for consumers to know how many are left. Especially for those putting it off or are on the fence. An educated consumer is the best consumer

The real question is, why do people feel the numbers have to remain a mystery?

In the spirit of Yankees0222's most recent question: I have just spoken with the owner of SAE and he has confirmed the following numbers; as of Noon Pacific Time today, the 2 titles have so far sold...

NOTLD = 1,539
E.M. = 667

Best,

Nick.

Whoa. 1500+ copies pre-ordered in less than 24 hrs. I can definitely see a title selling out in a day. Christine, maybe? Candyman??

If that is correct, then the figures shown for NOTLD can be taken as a reasonable guide to how the title is selling, up until the discs are ready to ship...

Also, with all the brouhaha around here about "scalpers," speculators, folk buying hundreds of copies to re-sell on ebay, etc. That is misinformation and generally untrue. While some people do buy an extra copy or two for resale it is hardly an epidemic...with the release of NOTLD and Enemy Mine, TT will have put 32 titles into circulation. If, as expected, NOTLD sells out fairly rapidly it will be only the fourth title to do so. And two of those four titles, Mysterious Island and Journey to the Center of the Earth took a significant time to exhaust their supply...MI, 9 months, and Journey, 3 months. With 28 titles still in print, and easily obtainable, TT's catalogue is hardly a speculator's paradise, and the number we have chosen to limit all our releases to, 3,000, has proven to be a reliable barometer for the eclectic and esoteric nature of our schedule. We appreciate all you guys hanging in for the ride...we don't know how long it will last, or exactly where we'll end up going with this "experiment," but we're enjoying it and we hope that at least some of you are getting a kick out of it too...

Best,

Nick Redman, Brian Jamieson, and Julie Kirgo.
Thanks a lot for providing accurate information for our members . Looks like NOTLD and EM are going to be very successful for you guys .

Have all of TT's titles so far been from Sony?
Studio count of TT's 32 releases to date:

Twentieth Century Fox = 20
Sony/Columbia = 10
Sony/TriStar = 2

And as for "Whitesheik," he's a very good pal of ours, but he likes to come on here and tease you guys and pull your chains!

Nick.

Screen Archives better be prepared, I expect Christine to sell out within 48 hours.

Mine too, except that I open, watch, and enjoy them!*

* There's something very disturbing about seeing a complete TT collection sitting there in original shrink wrap, totally unappreciated.

I re-seal my movies in these bags.

However, the only TT I watched was The Big Heat.

I spend so much time with my wishlist / "best price so far" spreadsheet / "best foreign version" / eBay et al that I've fantisized for 10 years about selling a script or winning the lottery (same diff) and going into Best Buy and asking, "What'll ya do for me if I buy 400 at once, right now?"

(I didn't know TT was rigidly limited release. I think it sucks, but Christine is an absolute classic, so I'll cave.)

I have all the TT releases including the DVDs... and they are all opened! Only one I didn't buy direct from SAE was... you guessed it, Fright Night, but I finally got a copy (with magnet) at a reasonable price a while back, so now I'm complete!

Just pre-orderd Night of the Living Dead giving me 8 TT titles. Never seen this and not sure if its 100% my kind of film but I'm willing to give it a go. I figure if I don't like this I can most likely get the $35 back from it at some point. With that said I doubt I would sell it unless circumstances really demanded it, while adding this film only gives me 8 releases to date I like the idea of eventually getting a "complete set" of TT titles. Would not want to have to complete a set on the secondary market.

Closely watching The Big Heat - need to pick that one up next I think. Really want to grab Rapture as well based on Oildude's praise of the film but I think I'll be safe on that one a little longer. Out of the titles I want to see the most that I don't have yet it would be Bite the Bullet. Was going to get that one this month but figured Night of the Living Dead would sell out rather quickly (as far as TT titles go) so I grabbed that one first.

In terms of Blu-ray, yes rafaelsalguero. But the 'complete' TT video collection also includes the following DVD-only titles (listed by Product Code #s):
  • The Kremlin Letter (#1)
  • Violent Saturday (#2)
  • Fate Is The Hunter (#3)
  • Woman Obsessed (#4)
  • The Flim-Flam Man (#6)
  • My Cousin Rachel (#7)
  • Stagecoach 1966 (#8)
  • The Left Hand of God (#9)
NOTE: #5 was The Egyptian, the only TT title available to date in both Blu-ray and DVD editions. Their second Blu-ray, Mysterious Island, was actually #10 in the series.
