I don't know how to answer tech questions. The PQ was good but not remarkable.

No news until at least early to mid October when they announce their slate for January and February.

Have any of the "7 for 70" titles sold out completely since being made part of the package deal?

It's one of my fave of Fincher's. Great sense of tone and mood. Admittedly I tend to enjoy most of Jodie Foster's work.

Good to know. Thanks.

Also, I knew about American Buffalo, but did any of the other 2 ever appear on a Low Quantity Alert? I'm just trying to get a sense because there are a few titles I want but I can't purchase them this instant.

WOW! SAE has added more a LOT more titles to the 7 for $70. Some of these are among the best releases TT has done.

Quote:
September 19th - **UPDATED - EVEN MORE NEW TITLES ADDED** IT’S A TWILIGHT TIME PACKAGE STEAL! Buy seven of any of the qualifying Twilight Time titles for $70.00 and get a real deal. This is a one-time “package price” of seven titles until they are gone. It’s okay to mix and match — just buy seven of one or one each of these titles. You must have a minimum of seven titles in your cart, but you can also create as many “packages” as you like, as long as you buy seven titles at a time. Final price will be adjusted at checkout. Package deal will go live Wednesday, August 17th at 4 PM Eastern. Click the BUNDLES link on the left to access the list and make your purchase.
New additions to the qualifying list:

The Way We Were
Bite the Bullet
Bonjour Tristesse
Desiree
Lost Horizon
Love is a Many Splendored Thing
Nicholas and Alexandra
The Other
Pal Joey
Philadelphia
Royal Flash
Sexy Beast
Swamp Water

Demetrius and the Gladiators (on the low quantity list with last known count fewer than 450 remaining)
The Blue Lagoon (on the low quantity list with last known count fewer than 220 remaining)

Titles already on the list:

Alamo Bay
Beloved Infidel
Rapture
Cover Girl
Mindwarp
Pony Soldier
The Disappearance
The Only Game in Town
The Rains of Ranchipur
The Roots of Heaven
The Sound and the Fury
The Wayward Bus
The Kremlin Letter (DVD)
A Woman Obsessed (DVD)
Violent Saturday (DVD)

I have mixed feelings about some of the new title additions because many of them are among my favorite TT releases. Like Rapture, many of these are REALLY good films that should have sold out long ago and never gotten to blowout status. Taken as a whole catalog, a big bunch of TT's strongest classic releases are right here, folks. Two of these are even on the low quantity list!

My personal favorites from the new additions:

Bite the Bullet
Swamp Water
Bonjour Tristesse
Love is a Many Splendored Thing
Nicholas and Alexandra
Pal Joey
Sexy Beast
Philadelphia

OK, that is just about the whole list of new additions to the deal, but these really are some outstanding films. Nicholas and Alexandra - one of my all-time favorite historical epics; Love is a Many Splendored Thing - beautifully lensed, rock solid performances from Jennifer Jones and William Holden, a moving story and sweeping melodrama that pulls you in and holds you till the end; Bonjour Tristesse - Otto Preminger, Deborah Kerr, David Niven, Jean Seberg, and the adorable Mylene Demongeot, also starring the late 1950s French Riviera.....Swamp Water - damn fine film I have written about here several times; Pal Joey; Bite the Bullet. It's like a hitting the lottery of good entertaining classic cinema.

Just got my third bundle! I have a lot of watching to catch up on.+++

I've also, over the years, purchased a lot of TT titles at full price.

Happy they've expanded the list, but unfortunately I already own most of the newly added titles. Will have to wait a little longer -- maybe they'll throw some new ones in the mix another month down the line.

Some of these I haven't seen, but for what little it might be worth, depending on your tastes, I recommend the following of the titles I have seen:

The Way We Were
Bite the Bullet
Love is a Many Splendored Thing
Nicholas and Alexandra
Pal Joey
Philadelphia
Swamp Water

Cover Girl
The Wayward Bus

Again, some of these I haven't seen yet—but I at these prices I just did blind buys on some of those titles.

What baheidstu said.

It's from the same director (Richard Lester) and writer (George MacDonald Fraser) as The Three and Four Musketeers and is much in the same vein, though not quite up to their level (it is, however, better than their third Musketeers film, The Return of the Musketeers).

It's (surprisingly) the only adaptation of any of Fraser's Flashman novels (there are a dozen in all). If you like historical romps, this one is worth watching. It's one I've been meaning to pick up from TT for quite a while, but something else always ended up taking its place in my cart.

They seem to be moving down the list chronologically by release date. The most recent one on the sale list is Royal Flash, and the only titles still in print that came out before that one that aren't on the sale list are In Like Flint and Major Dundee (both on the LQA list), as well as Drums Along the Mohawk, Oliver!, and Jane Eyre.

I'm starting to think I might swap out one of the seven I have in mind to buy this time around for The Blue Lagoon. It's not a film I'm particularly interested in having on my shelf for $30 or even $20. But for $10...and given that it's in pretty low quantity now...

Same here. I think these are much better titles than the original bundle, but I already own most of the ones I really want.

If anyone is looking for suggestions though, I would thoroughly recommend Bite the Bullet, a wonderful adventure with a western setting featuring an absolutely stellar cast from a filmmaker (Richard Brooks) who I think is somewhat overlooked and underrated nowadays.

For anyone who is even remotely a fan of Frank Sinatra, you have to get Pal Joey as it's one of his most quintessentially "Frank" films and a lot of fun, plus it's got the added bonus of Rita Hayworth and Kim Novak.

And of course Sexy Beast. Ben Kingsley absolutely steals the show as Don Logan. Without him it would be a run-of-the-mill post-Guy Ritchie Brit gangster film, but he elevates it to a whole other level and if you only know him as "Gandhi" this will be a shocker as he is in turns terrifying and absolutely hilarious, you HAVE to see it.

Tempting to pick up a bundle, although I'm really only after Pal Joey and The Wayward Bus at this stage - which at full price are still less than the bundle. Not sure I want to get into selling unwanted/duplicate titles just to subsidize the ones I do want.

If you are only interested in a few, it looks like there may be people willing to do a group buy here:

Holy cow, I'm so glad that I checked this thread this morning. I only have five Twilight Time titles right now: Inherit the Wind, Judgment at Nuremberg, Oliver!, A Man for All Season, and The Big Heat. This will jump start my collection nicely.

Lots of actors I love are well represented in this sale: Deborah Kerr (whom I absolutely adore) has two I'm jumping all over. Lots of Brando, Olivier, Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra, Gregory Peck, Richard Burton, Gene Hackman, Orson Welles, Gregory Peck. I'm definitely in. Now to narrow down my list to seven. Philadelphia for $10 is an amazing deal. I'm literally floored that these are being sold for $10 each.

I swear to God--I think all the distributors I like are conspiring to break me. Twilight Time, Warner Archive, and Criterion all holding big sales within two weeks. Ugh, my wallet.....
