The transfers on TT releases are usually of pretty good quality, so this is a rather sad exception. Disappointing too that the extras are so meagre (just the isolated music score and a trailer). A commentary would have been welcome.
Seriously? They've been posting the caveat about the transfer all over the place. When you look it up on SAE it says "See note about the transfer" right there in the title of the product. They reduced the price because of it. How could you fail to miss this?

I was told by TT a while back that they had to get approval by Woody Allen for the artwork being used on the each cover for his films. So I would imagine any extras being included would have to go through him also.

Ah, yes I do remember seeing that disclaimer now! Thanks for pointing it out, and my apologies to Twilight Time.

It does seem a shame that the film elements are in such poor condition.

The book about the making of the film "Heaven's Gate" has a whole subplot about the fight going on in Hollywood to get Woody Allen, because several studios wanted him to be a symbol of how artist friendly they were, figuring that his movies were cheap enough that they would never lose much on any of them, and the prestige would attract better talent to their other movies. (Of course, he ignored them all and stayed loyal to the guy who had distributed his older movies, after he left UA... but he still got some pretty good perks.)

I remember reading a quote from Woody Allen in Mike Medavoy's book "You're Only As Good As Your Next One" where he said at that time his agent would contact him with all these deals from other studios that offered the same things UA (and later Orion) offered, just with more money, but he stressed that he could sleep at night because he made a deal with Arthur Krim.

Being a fan of '70s UA as well as Orion output, that book was a very enjoyable read.

Swamp Water is one of my favorite TT movies, in large part because of the amazing visuals.

Hello, everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew whether TT could ever get their hands on Stealing Beauty (1996) by Bertolucci and Toys (1992) by Barry Levinson and starring Robin Williams, in, imho, one of his best starring roles (ditto for Joan Cusack)?

For some reason, they seem ripe for the TT treatment, considering they are underappreciated and underseen Fox films that will probably never receive the deluxe treatment. Toys, in particular, had some vintage material on its DVD (the teasers, trailer, and a featurette), and I'm surely not even asking for an isolated score, Heaven though that would be, especially for Toys.

It's just sad that these two look more and more likely to never see the light of HD day... So I figured I'd ask you all, in case anyone knows even where to direct these questions.

Thanks in advance!

I think it's a shame that it seems like half of Barry Levinson's directorial career will not see the light of day in HD.

Young Sherlock Holmes, Tin Men, Avalon, Bugsy, Toys, Wag The Dog and Liberty Heights are all unavailable on Blu-ray as of now AFAIK.

Personally, I'd love to see Avalon and Bugsy get the TT treatment. Toys is a possibility as well because it's a Fox title. For Wag The Dog, it's probably a case of "Warner Archive or bust."

Tin Men is a terrific movie, I'd snatch that up quick if I could.

Liberty Heights could be an Archive title too, but I'd definitely expect Wag the Dog first. (There are also some extras in R2 that would be nice to include.)

Yes to all of this! Avalon, Bugsy, Toys and Wag the Dog would be perfect for Twilight Time.

I bought a copy this morning, even though I haven't seen it, as I'm still quite bummed out about John Hurt's passing--despite the current political climate, I have doubts that this film will see another BD release, so I finally acted. I've read and enjoyed most of Orwell''s work, so I'll be curious to see how this adaptation fares!

Bugsy and Tin Men are masterpieces. Very strange how obscure they are. I want the extended version of Bugsy on blu ray. I still haven't seen Liberty Heights and Avalon yet but I want to.

Agree with you on Bugsy and especially Tin Men, but Avalon is my favorite Levinson film. While watching some movies, you can tell how close the story is to the filmmaker's heart, and I think that's certainly the case with Avalon (in the case of Cameron Crowe, for example, Almost Famous comes to mind here for me as well).

At least, that's the effect the film had on me...
