Bought Lilies of the Field, 10 to Midnight, and Mississippi Burning. I thought TT had free shipping like Ronin. Still have to buy a couple of more releases but already broke.

I can understand it. There are several recent and upcoming TT titles that I plan on buying once there's a price drop. If there's a LQA on any of them, I might pull the trigger at $30, but I'd be happier at $20. As for Moby Dick, I picked it up as part of the Eric Roberts signed promo. Around $26 on average for the six films, including shipping.

What's hard to understand about wanting to save a few bucks?

I never understood that either. I have to buy every title I know I want the day it comes out. You never know what could happen down the line with waiting for it to go on sale either especially with some of these titles that have been going OOP out of the blue (no pun intended) recently or in the case of limited edition titles having them sell out. I'd be so pissed if I waited till the last minute only to find that title is no longer available.

It's easy to understand: Everyone has different financial obligations and priorities. I'd love to be able to get every Blu-ray/DVD title I want but mortgage, utilities, food, medications, etc. keep getting in the way.

I definitely understand that. I was just trying to help the perspective for those out there that just want to wait till everything goes on sale or reaches bargain bin prices all the time. I understand that it can be better that way sometimes so you can end up buying a lot more movies when they go on sale rather than pay full price when they first come out. Everyone has different situations and trust me I definitely have bills of my own as well.

That said, there's a lot of buyers who just don't like the fact that the price is what it is when the title first comes out so they say screw it and wait till it gets cheaper then get pissed when it gets sold out or goes OOP and a lot of those buyers are the type that want companies like Mill Creek releasing every blu ray because they are cheap but also cheaply made. I've seen a lot of posts from these types of buyers and they just complain all the time about the price of the blu ray when it comes out.

On a side note that's one of the main reasons I hardly ever blind buy. You never know if you end up wasting your money if you end up not liking the movie and end up losing out on a title you could've bought that you already know you like.

I do think it's likely that any title that doesn't sell out within a few months will *eventually* go on sale, but not necessarily all at the same time.
The first sale -- their Third Anniversary Sale in 2014 -- was more limited than that. It was $10 off a selected list of 36 titles (one for each month they'd been in business). Every sale since then has increased the number of titles on sale, but still was never an across the board sale on every title.

Oh man, I don't want to miss out on Moby Dick. So, I grabbed it. Pretty nice haul, overall, for this sale, methinks:

Moby Dick
Mississippi Burning
Lilies of the Field
Birdman of Alcatraz
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?
The Train

Bruce Kimmel just made a brief comment on it over on HTF.

As I was fully expecting, it sounds like another teal and orange fest ala Best Of Everything or King And I- discs that I personally find aesthetically off putting.

Ah, I thought I had seen the first sale, but not if it was 2014. I guess it was the next one, but my memory is that every title that I really wanted (with Twilight Time, there are different levels of interest) that wasn't relatively new was on sale in that one. But the sale price was still $20, they hadn't gotten into these $15 and $10 sales.

I got Moby Dick as a preorder...but the case here is that it did drop to $20 for about a month before the low qty even kicked in. What release in the last year has sold out without going on sale? That would be my question.

The answer would be none in the past year. Or two. I believe the last time a release sold out without going on sale would probably be Fright Night encore back in January of 2015.

You would be correct. It's one of only three titles to do that, the other two being Night of the Living Dead and Christine.

Tough to resist "nice to have" titles that are on sale and are almost sold out. Picked up Moby Dick as well (along with I could Go on Singing as I'm a huge Judy Garland fan).

I agree. Only titles on sale seem to be selling out these days. I think they are worth $30 if you really want them and especially if you don't want to wait for a sale. And there's something to be said about supporting a label like this by paying full price. But paying less does mean I can buy more movies and since I monitor this thread there is really zero chance that a title will sell out before I have a chance to pull the trigger.

Mysterious Island Encore (3000 Units) 12/2015 - Summer 2016 I think was ever discounted.

Again it;s been very unusual. of course it really wasn't all that common even before 2015 for many items to sell out at full price -- certainly not more than 15-20 titles. There was an interesting run of them from late 2012 until early 2014 though, then The Driver and Blue Max sold out reasonably quickly, since a a longer gap to the next quicker sell out.

Those were the 2 other titles that sold old in pre-order. Maybe I was reading the question wrong?
So Journey would fit into the two years ago category since that was over a year ago technically.

Mysterious Island Encore did go on sale before selling out. I remember vividly that the sale happened, I was partially interested, the sale was over but then shortly after they released notice of how low the QTY was after that, I then resorted to full Price before it sold out. I may not have gone on sale at TT, but it was on sale as SAE. (SAE Sold out then the remaining copies were at TT where I had to buy it).

So in terms of the last year, nothing has sold out without first going on sale at some point from what I'm reading.

Or I was. I was interpreting the "before going on sale" as "before the street date", but I suppose being up for pre-order is "going on sale". If that's the definition, then strictly speaking, nothing sold out before going on sale.

But I'm guessing the proper -- or at least your interpretation -- is "before being offered at a discounted price in a sale".
