No official confirmation or announcement, but when they put out the DVD, Nick Wrigley (founder and at the time producer of Masters of Cinema) had this to say:

We're releasing these two Fritz Lang films on DVD-only in April 2011 and we're hoping for a stupendous new HD restoration to be completed in 2012 for subsequent Blu-ray release (if we're lucky) in late 2012.
The DVDs are among the nicest looking DVDs we've ever released. They look stunning, which is why we're not waiting! Thanks!

When asked later about the titles eventual BD release:

Not for 2012, but don't rule out 2013!

The Rains of Ranchipur and Bonjour Tristesse are up on SAE's website for pre-order.

They were a few minutes late, just long enough for me to wonder if they were actually going live today since there had been no announcement ahead of time like past months.

After all the rollercoaster drama over NOTLD90, does anyone r-e-a-l-l-y begrudge SAE and TT opting for a "quieter" rollout this month? Both these titles skew older anyway, so who would be racing to their PCs at 4:00 p.m. sharp to pounce on either of them?

Also, as others have mentioned, that alternate (cheaper) German release of The Rains of Ranchipur will no doubt have a 'wait see' effect on at least some buyers...so we're likely to see more action on it down the line after some reviews with caps go up.

To my eyes, this was just an 'after-the-storm' kind of month...

They did mention the preorder date and time on their FB page on the 2nd and the 8th of Oct. Or is there a different announcement which is being referred to?

I check thier facebook page maybe once or twice a week. I guess I missed Oct 8

Doubt I would have seen it anyway since you have to navigate to it (I found it under Highlights tab) and there was no repeat post or other prominent announcement of it, not even today. TT really needs to sticky pre-order dates. No big deal, I think we "veterans" all assumed it was today based on past experience.

Instead of posting NOTLD reviews from bloggers and unknowns they should have stepped up their efforts to promote the upcoming pre-orders. Just my opinion of course .

It was posted on the Oct 2 as well.

But yeah, the announcement got lost in all of the NOTLD discussion and constant reviews being posted by TT.

I saw all of those today when I went looking for the new release info, and I had to wonder, what was the point of posting reviews for a product they no longer have for sale? A rhetorical question; I knew the answer.

Never cared for The Rains of Rachipur. I thought Richard Burton was particular miscast. With all its own problems, The Rains Came (1939) is a much better version.

I haven't seen Bounjour Tristesse, but may order it.

Well, there is that built-in camp factor over the white-for-<ethnic> casting Tns49. If you have a chance to catch Brian Jamieson's superb biography of Nancy Kwan, To Whom It May Concern: Ka'Shen's Journey, it includes clips from similar casting stunts such as Jennifer Jones playing Chinese in Love Is A Many-Splendored Thing, which was used to demonstrate why Kwan's breakthrough as a romantic lead was so significant. And of course, the grandaddy of this kind of casting stunt was Marlon Brando in The Teahouse of the August Moon:

...it was surprsing how many A-list actors have a 'yellow-face', 'red-face', or 'brown-face' picture on their resumes. Hard to watch these performances now with a completely straight face, but this type of thing was very common from the 30s through the late 50s.

I've never seen The Rains of Ranchipur, but I do like Friedhofer's superb score...as well as his scoring in general, which has been somewhat underappreciated in the shadow of Herrmann's output at Fox. He was very old school about not 'over-scoring' the picture, but nevertheless did top tier work which can stand on its own musically. Plus how many folks have seen this film in its original 2.55:1 'Scope? Some of these oldies tend to play much better once their full aspect ratio is restored...especially if they were composed out to the edges, even their story points make more sense. I don't know if that will be the case TROR, but I've seen too many 'Scope movies I was indifferent to panned and scanned which took on a fascinating new character once the original compositions were restored.

Bonjour Tristesse is the 'good' Preminger. And a very handsome production to boot...I can't wait to hear Auric's score isolated. Here's another sample:

I think both of these titles will be slower on the discovery/rediscovery Tns49, but eventually find their fans. Just no in-your-face 'must-have' barnstormers this month...these are the kinds of TT titles that get tossed in the cart on impulse while you're ordering something else.

If you look hard enough, you can find just about every pre-1960 actor in some absurd ethnic make-up that would be career-ending by modern standards. I've seen Judy Garland in black-face.

That's why I treat EVERY older film as a period-piece. If you try to impose modern sensibilities on older flicks, you'd have a very tiny collection.

But I do have to say that I think it's strange how everybody seems to give a pass to Brando in TEAHOUSE OF THE AUGUST MOON. He's the least Japanese looking guy possible and his faux accent grates on me.

You must be referring to this Dex:

Oy!

In that context, Burton doesn't come off nearly as bad...just weird. It's his distinctive voice and accent that will likely take getting used to the most.

BTW, here's the source still that seems to have inspired TROR's cover art:

It's Brando...Brando the chameleon...Brando in full-blown method transformation. Actually, he got a lot of "free passes" in roles that would have deep-sixed the careers of the less talented. I mean, was he any less "faux" as Napoleon in Désirée? Didn't seem to matter though...he sure was interesting to watch...even when he was quietly musing you couldn't take your eyes off him.

I still can't find any trailer of Ranchipur online to see how this looks.
1-2 that were posted earlier, (from amazon and elsewhere), can't be viewed in my country.
:-(

Can you see this VuDu clip filmmusic? Although clicking "Watch Trailer" doesn't load the actual trailer, it does offer a 1.5 minute preview of the movie.

Aren't they usually Fridays? I'd expect November 9th or 16th.

I plan to order RANCHIPUR and TRISTESSE at the same time I pre-order BLUE LAGOON and BELOVED INFIDEL, to save shipping. Don't expect to bother with the '73 LOST HORIZON, though. I generally pass on most of the post-1970 titles from Twilight Time (LAGOON will be a rare exception, though I still wish the Jean Simmons version was coming to Blu!).
