After Inferno and The Hospital I figured I was done with this sale.

But I finally dusted off that creaky "Combat Classics" DVD of The Night of the Generals and I'm going to throw my hat in with the others; it's certainly worth $15, especially after a restoration. Reviewed a November purchase for the $2 coupon and placed an order at TT's website before I missed out entirely.

It is rambling and Shariff is frustratingly underused, but I enjoyed the kaleidoscope of narratives here. You get an unusual murder mystery, set against WWII, as well as the Valkyrie plot to assassinate Hitler. Neither really feels forced or shoehorned, but rather naturally overlapping, and each holds the interest until they cohere into a satisfying, unified strand.

Add the large international cast and actual filming locations lensed by Decae and you have a pretty intriguing flick here. I urge anybody on the fence to grab it while they can, it's a unique entry in the WWII canon.

I've been on a Walter Hill kick the past couple of days and it got me thinking of how his film Geronimo is coming out soon from TT and was curious if it's worth a blind buy or if I should watch it first. Is it a solid blind buy for someone who very rarely makes blind buys?

It's a solid Hill effort; frustrating because it could have been much better had they focused more on Studi than the lame Patric/Damon characters.

But good cinematography, rousing music score and an excellent performance from Studi with professional support from Duvall and Hackman (the two grizzled vets share a nice scene together that I wish had gone on much longer.)

I'd certainly wait for a lower price, but that's just my personal buying habits.

Nice set of announcements. "Gloria" and "The Hot Rock" are both fantastic and "Rapid Fire" is a personal early 90s action favorite with Brandon Lee and the great Powers Boothe. Worth it for Boothe alone. I've never seen "The Virgin Soldiers", but it looks intriguing.

+1

Speaking of Powers Boothe, any of you guys remember the series he did for HBO back in the mid 80's: "Philip Marlowe, Private Eye". I loved that take on Marlowe. The sets were authentic for the era and Boothe was excellent. I think it had a DVD release a while back.

This does look like a lot of fun. I remember the TV ads for it back in the early '90s when I was a kid. Such a shame Bruce and Brandon left us so early. Imagine a film with the two of them doing their thing? Would've been legendary. Will probably pick this up at some point.

I just knew Gloria would be a Twilight Time title sooner or later. I bought the DVD early last year and I’ve been waiting for the Blu ever since. Day One for me.

I used to watch Gloria repeatedly on Cinemax back in the early 90's when I was about the same age as the boy in the film. I haven't seen it in years and have almost broke down and bought the DVD several times. I'm glad I held off!

And he gets the best line: "Why don't you take those fists of fury of yours outside?"

In one of those 'small world' things, my sister was a friend of the author of the book it was based on, Leslie Thomas, and ended up with one of his Beagle dogs when his health deteriorated too much for him to look after it.

£8 or £28? That's the problem with TT. As I said, few films these days warrant $30+ $15 postage to the UK so I took the obvious option.
On another film I might have gone for TT but its been a while since I saw a title that warranted that outlay

The TT disc has all those features plus the PQ is far superior. The European releases are washed-out and full of scanner noise.
Worth 4 times what I paid? Depends on how much of a fan you are.
