Nice list, the two Flint movies are interesting but I think I will stick with my DVD for both, not watching these enough to make the upgrade at $35 each

...I stayed at the 'Pony Soldier' Best Western in Flagstaff, AZ*. It was nagging me where I'd heard the name, because I've never seen this movie.
![]() * Even though Pony Soldier is a Mountie story set in the badlands and foothills near the Canadian Rockies, most of it was actually filmed in Arizona's Sedona region. Last edited by ROclockCK; 10-28-2012 at 12:01 AM. |

Just finished watching The Big Heat and it is a fantastic release...a must own for film collectors. Also very excited about today's announcement, very solid releases. After what I personally believe is a weak November and December for TT, they are starting 2013 with a bang. Major Dundee and Christine on the way will generate a lot of excitement

A great, kind-of forgotten film. Blake Edwards doing suspense, before his reign as the king of comedy. Glenn Ford, Lee Remick, Mancini... just a nice unexpected release.

I think the rumored release date for Christine has always been sometime in March. Also, I'm excited for Experiment in Terror. I've wanted to see it for a while now, but the DVD has been OOP and commanding insane prices.

I'll take ALL 5 please and thank you TT! Have been waiting for the first BD release of a Tyrone Power (starring lead) film; would have preferred "The Long Gray Line," "Untamed" or "Suez" first but "Pony Soldier" is okay. Also, it's nice to see that TT is finally releasing a truly epic movie - referring to "Nicholas and Alexandra!" Hoping this one has the original 6-track audio and am looking forward to enjoying the BD picture quality because I only own the Amazon streaming version of this film right now. January/February 2013 is going to be expensive months!

![]() Recently, it was mentioned on the Criterion board that they won't be doing In A Lonely Place after all. Does that mean TT will get it? If Sony's master looks anything like The Big Heat, then I say "Bring it on..." |

I mean, is building suspense and sustaining tension really all that different than setting up and delivering well paced visual humour? Superficially, yes, but in the larger sense, they both require the same cinematic discipline...especially in widescreen. Heck, I've lost count how many times Edwards framed a particular comedic element way out at the edges, or cut to a long shot when a lesser director would have pushed in for a close-up. He really understood what he was doing within each shot...as well as the structure and placement of the shot itself. So I think he probably could have done more conventional genre thrillers, but perhaps just enjoyed the peculiar challenges of screen comedy more. Or, just as likely, that was all anyone offered him after the success of the Pink Panther series. There's certainly no indication via Experiment in Terror that Edwards was incapable of making more A-list thrillers...like if you didn't know he directed this thing, I doubt it would immediately strike you as a Blake Edwards film. They also know that most people will tack on another release when they order, so splitting them up makes sense.

I'm excited.
I just purchased Swamp Water for $22.00 shipped on ebay. With ebay bucks it cost me alittle over $16.00... That's what I get for holding out for used copies on ebay. Then I look at other titles on there and notice the inflated prices of items that aren't even OOP. SMH ![]() |

wow.. it's a shame how misleading people can be in order to try to cheat on the others:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bonjour-Tris...item3ccbe45c85 How can this be OOP???!! |

But yeah, I agree that it is pretty disingenous - and blatantly insulting - for any eBay or Amazon seller to be playing the 'OOP card' on a 10-day old TT pre-order that won't even ship for another couple of weeks. Also, it's kinda sad such sellers think that a significant number of buyers - especially the more collector-savvy target market for these TT Blus - truly are that stupid or uninformed. These fringe bottom feeders only get dribbles of buyers anyway; most fans know better. What can you do, except ignore them? Last edited by ROclockCK; 10-28-2012 at 09:27 PM. |

In any case, not all of those early TT DVDs have suitable 'HD ready' masters anyway. Although The Kremlin Letter, My Cousin Rachel, and Fate Is The Hunter looked terrific even on DVD, and could easily go to Blu, at the other end of the scale, Violent Saturday was letterboxed and Woman Obsessed was authored on DVD-R. In the so-so range were Stagecoach, which looked reasonably good for mid-60s Panavision/Eastmancolor but not spectacular, as well as The Left Hand of God (a wonderful Bogart-Tierney movie worth seeing any way you can). All of TT's DVD-only titles were good or at least interesting movies which I would consider upgrading if suitable HD masters exist, but I doubt we'll see that happen any time soon, if ever. With all the stuff from the Fox and Sony vaults still left to be done even once, why would they even want to do that? I guess we'll just have to see what happens after the first TT DVD sells out its original 3000 run. When? If? |
