So, again, my advice to the person who started the discussion is, if they want expedient sales with good return on investment, E-bay auctions would be the best way to go.
Thanks to all for your input. I too have listed on eBay and will again. Let not our differing opinions sully the fact that, even though I am downsizing my collection, The Fortune Cookie is on sale for $15 today and I will be purchasing it along with Auto Focus. I might even get crazy and throw Don't Bother To Knock in my cart. Let the mountain of Blu-rays stack ever higher!

I was hoping for Geronimo this time around as well, but I'm confident it won't be much longer before it's included in a sale.

This time around, I'm in for The Incident, Don't Bother To Knock and Auto Focus.

It didn't click for me first time at all, but it worked surprisingly well on a second viewing. Part of the problem is with that cast and the way the trailer sold it leads you to expect a completely different kind of film to the one Hill made (and the amount of time it spent in post-production Hell implies the studio tried their damnedest to turn it into a more conventional film before giving up). I think it's the kind of film that's inevitably disappointing on a first viewing, at times cramped by its brief running time and its flashback structure, but becomes rather intriguing second time round with no expectations.

Side note: 15 years of inflation is certainly a factor, but it's bizarre to think that MGM/UA spent only $6m or so less on it than they did on their previous western that co-starred Jeff Bridges and John Hurt, Heaven's Gate, and actually grossed even less. Those guys must have been gluttons for punishment.

Yeah, I'm thinking about diving in for The Incident (one I've wanted to see for quite a while) and Don't Bother to Knock as well.

I THINK that catches me up with Twilight time current releases that I was hoping to grab...

Of those I believe "Kiss of Death" might be low stock. I know during the Fox sale it had sold out briefly but it turned out it didn't. I'm not sure if TT had a bunch of cancelled orders or that it was premature.

I've only seen it once about 20 years ago. While I like westerns and Jeff Bridges, it just seemed that everyone in the film was half-asleep. I'd be interested in seeing it again, but not sure I'm interested in owning it, even on sale.

The e-mail TT sent out earlier didn't have no "almost sold out" messages for it, but that doesn't necessarily mean there's a huge stock left. I like the movie, but it wouldn't be the end if I miss out. It's the other two that I really want and think should be safe on for a while. Maybe we get a pre-Christmas sale?

We're definitely going to get another big sale before the year is done.

I debated getting Chato's Land, but chickened out. Need to see more from Michael Winner before pulling the trigger.

I did get two though:

There are only four that I need this time - DON'T BOTHER TO KNOCK, AUTO FOCUS, BENEATH THE 12 MILE REEF, and MY COUSIN RACHEL. Gonna wait a day or two until I can collect some eBay sales and lower the blow a bit more.

"The Fortune Cookie" is a funny film. Lemmon and Matthau with Wilder equals perfection. I will say it's probably one of the weaker MGM-B&W-old master discs I own; certainly not the worst looking B&W film I own. That belongs to "The Crimson Kimono".

No, you really don't. Chato's Land is an excellent (albeit brutal and unsparing) western that belies Winner's reputation as a hack filmmaker (frankly, one I've never fully gotten.)

Charles Bronson, at the age of 52, is as imposing and implacable as ever as the eponymous half-breed who slowly turns the tables on his bigoted pursuers in a hellish, alien landscape which he's adopted as his home. The posse is led by the inimitable Jack Palance and is a veritable "who's who" of character actors, including Simon Oakland (a real standout as a vile brute who gradually usurps Palance's crumbling command), James Whitmore, Ralph Waite, Richard Jordan and Victor French.

The stark, inhospitable landscape that slowly devours the doomed vigilantes is an impressive character in its own right and there's some standout scenes of carnage, including a live rattlesnake being used as a boomerang to some poor sap's face.

TT's disc contains a nice little interview with Gerald Wilson, the screenwriter whose work would later be echoed in Death Hunt (another awesome Chuck manhunt movie, this time gamely opposed by Lee Marvin in the rugged Yukon) and First Blood.

The TT disc is a massive improvement over MGM's abysmal DVD and is more than worth $15. For my money it's easily one of Chuck's better "late" movies and one of the more standout westerns of the 70s.

The method is a law of averages, in my example the BIN price would have been set above $65 as all the other much higher priced auctions balance it out.

I think your method is a good one if quick money is the goal. I'd be curious how much the autograph ones go for, my ebay seach suggest most don't seem to go for much, which I find a bit odd.

Also interesting I saw some sealed TT auctions selling for $7 shipped. I'd call that being burned, myself

Walter Hill went on to revisit the character of Wild Bill with far greater success in HBO's Deadwood (he directed the pilot episode) in which Keith Carradine gave perhaps my favourite ever Will Bill performance.
I agree with this, but I have this feeling that "Wild Bill" will be around long enough to hit $10, and I'd probably buy that and give it another shot.
