^Everybody thinks Scorpion got this, but it's been about a year since that hint was dropped...

Scorpion also announced, officially on this site, almost a year ago that they were releasing Russian Roulette and there hasn't been a peep about that since. I don't know if there's issues with these titles or Walt just likes to take his sweet time.

that needs to happen! another staple of my childhood seeing it numerous times on HBO when I was about 11... I know it's not a fantastic movie or anything but I still vividly remember the finale with the bad guy falling off a building in Vancouver and being wowed by it!

It's one I love as well since seeing it as the supporting feature to The Medusa Touch - although Lou Lombardo was high as a kite for much of the shoot (so much so that the finale had to be shot by Anthony Squire) he manages to fill it with quirky little touches that make it stand out. It desperately needs an upgrade from Shout's non-anamorphic DVD, but even when he was in good health and online Walt always avoided t he subject of when it was coming out whenever it was raised so maybe there isn't an HD master at the moment.

Indeed -- every MGM title, regardless of what label has it, eventually will go up for grabs. Just look at all the Shout Factory "discontinued" releases over the last few months. No different for TT, Shout, Kino or whoever.

Haven't been here in a little while.
Has there been any word an whether or not TT will start releasing titles again, in the new year? |

Nope. If I had to guess the future doesn't look bright for them too as there is a limited library for them(Sony and maybe Universal?) to work with.

Then again, it's possible that part of their delay in announcing any new releases is that they're working on lining up some new licensors.

No he wasn't, he was simply a co-founder and the public face of the label. It was never a one man band as a glance at the credits in any of their booklets shows. It's an oversimplification (as in all boutique labels, roles get blurred), but generally it was Brian Jamieson who handled the acquisitions and negotiations, Mike Finnegan the general production side and Nick Redman the special features and public relations, with others like Julie Kirgo and Mike Mattesino involved along the way. But as a small team, the loss of any part has an effect, and that's why they're taking time to decide how or if to proceed.

I decided to go ahead and place an order at SAE, using the MERRY2019 code to save $5.00. I picked up a copy of Woman Obsessed on DVD for $3.00, figuring that since it's a 20th Century-Fox film starring two actors that I like (Susan Hayward and Stephen Boyd), it's better to grab a copy now rather than to wait for anyone to release it on blu-ray. And I picked up these nine blu-rays:
[Show spoiler] While I'm posting, I'd like to share my thoughts on a Twilight Time title that I screened last night, John Schlesinger's Yanks. I loved this film when it first hit theatres in 1979; in fact, I saw it four times on the big screen because I kept taking friends and family members to see it. I wasn't sure it was going to hold up after 40 years, but I needn't have worried; it's still a marvelous movie. The plot revolves around the arrival of American troops in a small English community, and their interactions with the citizenry. Richard Gere was a rising star at the time, (he had recently made a mark in both Looking for Mr. Goodbar and Days of Heaven and would follow Yanks with a much-discussed star turn in American Gigolo) and Yanks was his first time to star as a bona fide romantic hero. His leading lady was the exquisite Lisa Eichhorn, who was also playing her first leading role after having been seen onscreen earlier the same year in The Europeans. Those forum members who admired Eichhorn's work in the Twilight Time release of Cutter's Way will want to own this disc; her performance in Yanks, which garnered her Golden Globe nominations for Best Actress in a Drama and New Star of the Year, is sublime. The film also offers fantastic acting by Vanessa Redgrave, William Devane, and Rachel Roberts, who won the BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress. John Schlesinger's uncharacteristically sensitive direction earned him several Best Director awards, most notably from the National Board of Review. And Dick Bush's cinematography is stunningly beautiful; the entire film is luminous. Twilight Time's release is exemplary, offering excellent PQ and AQ, with an audio commentary by supporting actor Chick Vennera along with Nick Redmond and Julie Kirgo. I love this disc, and am pleased to recommend it to you. |

For anyone who hasn't seen, looks like Sony has announced, through their MOD program, another former TT exclusive: Bell, Book and Candle. I hope they also bring us Bye Bye Birdie, Pal Joey, Funny Lady, Picnic, As Good as it Gets and The Way we Were. Although I already own the latter, and it already looks gorgeous, Park Circus lists a 4K DCP, so an upgrade would be a good reason to double dip!

Any international customers having trouble applying the MERRY2019 coupon code at SAE? I can't seem to apply both the coupon AND select "Special Delivery: Continue Without" - it's only letting me select one or the other. Seems like a site glitch, but an email to SAE only got me instructions on how to enter the code. :/
