The Fury? Hell yeah ! Easily my favorite film they've released. Do they do an isolated score track for every release? (the three I own have them) The John Williams score is a favorite of mine.
I probably have to get Major Dundee as well. Peckinpah is my favorite director. |

In orange are titles Fox is likely to include among their own releases: Bus Stop (reserved for the Marilyn Monroe Collection Vol. 2?) and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (which has always been tag-teamed with Fantastic Voyage in every home video format to date...also both were remastered in high-def for the Fox Cinema Classics DVD series, and include SE content). In gray are the titles that TT has either kinda-sorta-maybe hinted at (or at least not outright denied) as possiblities for their label. And Untamed just seems like a natural for TT based on its spotty to non-existent history on DVD. Pure speculation though. As for the rest? Anyone's guess, but most of these titles are from the Fox War Classics series, and I saw a lot of those legacy DVDs being dumped into blowout bins this year. So I'm inclined to think Fox might be considering Blu-ray runs of their own...I mean, Von Ryan's Express is already out there and that was a former Fox War Classic title. Considering the aftermarket prices for Williams' complete The Fury OST on CD, the IST feature alone makes TT's Blu-ray a bargain...well...relatively speaking. |

Anyone have opinions on Pony Soldier or Nicholas and Alexandra?
I just checked out the trailers and they both looked interesting. Pony Soldier looks classic western with a Canadian twist and N&A looks epic, but any feedback would be great. |

Sorry for the n00b question, but how do you tell how many copies are left out of the 3000 original? I like the movie "Pal Joey" a lot, but I am very adverse to paying full price for films... so shelling out 35 bucks is holding me back. But if it's getting close to being no longer available, I may have to just bite the bullet.

I hope they port over the commentary and Jennifer Jones doc from the DVD. Speaking of her, I heartily recommend Lubitsch's sparkling Cluny Brown, which manages to be both sweet and dirty. The R2 BFI disc is OOP, but the whole film is on YouTube. It's another Fox title, so I suppose TT is a possibility. Has anyone asked about it on Facebook?

And why is that one 5 dollars more than the rest if there are plenty of copies left? I would have thought that was an indication that it was close to being gone. |

I have a question, do we know if the 2 disc Dundee is going to be a higher price? Thanks. |

TT doesn't raise the price on their titles as they get closer to selling out. Pal Joey is one of the earlier titles and during that time TT was testing out multiple price points with their titles. They eventually settled on the lower price point for their titles. However, the titles which came out at the higher price point retained that pricing scheme. This was discussed in a previous article somewhere ... I'll see if I can find it. One exception is that TT mentioned Major Dundee will likely be sold at a higher price due to it being a 2-disc release; a first for TT. Last edited by rdodolak; 12-12-2012 at 04:26 PM. |

My SAE TT order just shipped yesterday, with BLUE LAGOON, BONJOUR TRISTESSE, BELOVED INFIDEL, and RAINS OF RANCHIPUR.
I decide to pass on LOST HORIZON, at least for the time being, but the review and discussion have sparked my curiosity to see it again after all these years. I missed it theatrically and saw it sometime in the late 70s or early 80s on HBO, panned-and-scanned, so perhaps having the full image area, sharper resolution, and stereo sound would improve my enjoyment. At the time I felt it was an overlong retread of a classic that didn't need to be remade, and was generally effective except for most of the song numbers, which quickly became extremely annoying. Of course some 30 years later it's likely to have some nostalgic appeal. Looking forward to MAJOR DUNDEE and SONG OF BERNADETTE. I didn't like CHRISTINE much back when it first came out, and may or may not try for THE FURY (if it sells out before I decide to order it, it's a sign that I don't need it and didn't really want it). The Columbia titles I'd most like TT to release are still Peter Bogdanovich's NICKELODEON (both the theatrical version in color and the slightly extended director's cut in B&W) and J. Lee Thompson's MACKENNA'S GOLD (if possible restored to its premiere/roadshow length). While both are on DVD, MACKENNA'S GOLD really needs the clarity of Blu-ray, and the DVD of NICKELODEON didn't seem quite up to Sony's usual high standards (like AFFAIR IN TRINIDAD and GILDA, both of which would also make excellent TT Blu-rays but both of which still look pretty impressive just on DVD). |
