Just got in my order of 20, oddly some look resealed and 2 came in soft plastic wrap. 5/6 books were pretty rough. Not really an issue, just not a regular occurrence from TT. I am hoping to order 15 more during the sale. Aside from Encore editions I need 73 titles to be complete, of those I know some are OOP already. Most of these purchases have been blind buys and I have to say, no regrets, some aren't my style and wont watch them again yet I'm happy to have expanded my view of cinema.

And is The Tall Men GOOD, or merely a patchy western with a couple strong points?
It’s more of a melodrama than an all out noir, and the plotting is definitely a bit silly, but it has some really strong character work and Preminger’s direction is first rate throughout.

As of this sale, I hit 128 movies (plus 1 DVD). As far as out of print titles go, I'd really like to have "The Blue Max" and the two Flint movies, but they're too danged expensive. I also have some interest in "Hard Times", "Love is a Many Splendored Thing", and "The Wayward Bus", but I think at least the first and maybe the second will get re-released by somebody.

There is a Fox release of “The Blue Max” that was released in France, Italy, and Japan that feature the same master as TT. The French release is the most inexpensive. Fox Japan also re-releases “Love is a Many-Splendored Thing” as well.

I saw the Italian one but for some reason I thought it was a bootleg. Thanks for the tip. I don't anticipate "Blue Max" getting released by another label over here. I didn't realize "Love" was Fox, but I did know it had a foreign release -- I am always reluctant to import from Japan because of the cost, but whenever there's something there that I just can't wait for, I'll be sure to add "Love" to the order.

Unless TT or SAE says something more specific that's pretty much it.

Practically if SAE has 500+ copies and TT none, you'd think they'd rebalance things a bit though. My guess is if one site is sold out the other
likely doesn't have massive huge numbers, but no way to tell if it's 51/100/200+.

The only current item TT has that SAE doesn't is Most Beautiful Marriage and TT only appears to have 100 or so. Over the last couple years when I've checked, if an item is only at TT.com it rarely has much more than 125 copies assuming you believe their cart numbers.

Nothing on the SAE site right now reads less than 50.

They're usually pretty good (better than Screen Archives anyway) at getting stuff out somewhat quickly, but maybe they're just really swamped this time.

The only OOP Fox titles I don't have at this point are:

(1) The Egyptian. There's a French Blu-ray, so I'll have to get that. The TT edition is way too expensive on the secondary market.

(2) Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines. There's a German Blu-ray in my cart at Amazon DE waiting for me to pull the trigger.

(3) Enemy Mine. There's a Eureka Classics Blu-ray I can pick up.

(4) The Fury. Not a film I particular care about.

There are about seven OOP Sony titles that I'd like to have, but none of them are ones I feel I have to get. The one of that lot I'm most interested in is The Mad Magician, which is coming out from Indicator at the end of the month. There are another nine OOP Sony titles I don't have, but either I have in another edition (the Sinbad movies, from Indicator, and Christine, from Sony's UHD), or I'm not interested in getting.

As for MGM/UA, there are three OOP titles I'd like to have, but aren't essential (except maybe Lenny), and another five I don't care about having. Well, one is the Thunderbirds double-feature, which I ended up picking up from Kino's morituri sale for cheap.

Yeah, that's basically what they told me. They have an overload of orders because of the sale.

I got the French release of The Egyptian and was disappointed. Then they broadcast it on HD French tv and the difference was extraordinary! A beautiful transfer with really beautiful rich colours! So why the disc release is just nowhere near as good as the version the TV broadcast is beyond me!

I also recorded a lovely HD transfer of Those Magnificent Men from UK TV last year.

It's hard to know what's going on, but assuming (as I think we all do) that Twilight Time is going out of business, they'd have no reason to want to restock anything, even if Screen Archives is also going out business (which -- maybe?
I don't know, I haven't seen much speculation either way).

How long ago did you place it? I ordered from TT on Wednesday and it shipped yesterday.

Screen Archives shipped my sale order out two days after I made it. I’ve always had a good experience with them. They were also great to deal with when I had a defective disc.

I’m happy I was finally able to get “Gloria” at a sale price.

SAE has been a going concern for longer than Twilight Time has been around -- since sometime in the 90s, maybe? -- so I wouldn't expect them to go belly up just because TT is. Once I don't have any Twilight discs to order from them, I don't expect to stay as a customer -- I've only bought a very few non-TT discs from them in the last six years -- and there may well be several of us in this thread that feel the same, but they've gotten along without us for a long time.

The order I just placed with them (just 4 discs) yesterday has been shipped today. I haven't had any defective discs from them (I had one from TT once, and it was handled smoothly there), but I've had no reason to complain about them for any other reason.

I hope they stay open. I mean, it makes no difference to me, I don't think I've bought anything from them besides TT titles, and I'm done with those now. But for their sake, I hope they do. I was just thinking that (1) they're losing some chunk of their yearly income when TT closes, and (2) their recent shipping price increase could be interpreted as suggesting that they're not doing so well (but might also have been anticipating the income loss from TT).
