He is really lacking the necessary charisma for sure, to put it nicely, it was a strange choice. I actually liked Jeffrey Hunter playing Frank James quite a bit though. Hope Lange is pretty stagey too, seems like Ray just did not give a shit sadly.

It's a completely reasonable misunderstanding under the circumstances. I've never seen the two covers next to each other like that, but if I hadn't already known about "Return of Frank James", I would've made the same assumption you did.

I placed an order through TT the first day of the sale. The day after I received my shipment I got the email asking me to leave a review for the $2 off coupon. I was glad to see they were still offering that and was going to use that for one more sale order . Today I wrote my review and got my coupon code a few minutes later, anticipating placing an order. Went to my cart on TT and entered the code, and imagine my surprise when it only took $2 off total, not $2 off each title. I had used a coupon as recently as the Valentine's day sale, and it was still taking $2 off each title at that time. Looks like they might have changed it now. I may still place one more order, but it probably won't be for as many titles as it may have been.

I think I remember reading that Ray had originally wanted to make a Jesse James movie with James Dean, and once he died he wanted to do one with Elvis. He ended up with Robert Wagner. Still an okay movie due to the Nicholas Ray touches here and there, but I would have to think it would've been better with either Dean or Elvis.

It's worth bearing in mind that at that stage in his career Wagner was very much the 50s equivalent of an 80s Tom Cruise (you can even see Prince Valiant as his Legend and The Hunters as his Top Gun), so it's not surprising Fox were pushing him, especially as a contract star over a loaner from another studio or an expensive buy-in like Presley.

Anyone know how long this sale is supposed to go? I know a date was mentioned somewhere in the last few pages but I can't find it. I don't even want anything from the label itself, but there are a couple of ClassicFlix titles (those prices!) I'd like to snap up around the end of the month.

Classic Flix sale ends tonight -- not sure of the Time Zone

TT sale goes through end of month.

"
March Madness Sale

[name], thank you once again for choosing to order your films direct from Twilight Time Movies. It's easy to be a winner when you use our pricing brackets to save big on Twilight Time movies! All titles are on sale for $4.95, $8.95 or $14.95, some at the lowest price ever offered. Save big on the entire library of ClassicFlix titles, too.

Please note that ClassicFlix titles are on sale only through Friday March 13th --- Twilight Time titles are on sale through March 31st, while supplies last.

Just a reminder, we have discontinued Media Mail as an option for US shipments. While it was economical, it didn't meet the high standards we require in a shipping service. Instead we have a new, low-cost 2-day express option from FedEx.

We have had a number of shipments returned lately because they are going to a multi-unit building without indicating that it's for an Apartment or Suite If you are shipping to a multi-unit building, please make sure that you include "Apt." or "Ste." in the address before the unit number, e.g. "Apt 5D", not just "5D"

If you have any trouble placing your order at https://www.twilighttimemovies.com/, simply reply to this email and we'll be happy to help."

Got email from SAE this afternoon. Here's some info to share. Some of this is already known, but it's late and I don't want to reinvent the wheel. Also because it's late, I don't want to play the cart trick to find out how many copies of each title are still available.

Items flagged as SOLD OUT:

* Fat City
* The Fortune

Cutter's Way
Edge of Eternity
* Exodus

Gun Fury
* How to Steal a Million

Peyton Place
* Sense and Sensibility

From what I can tell, Manhattan Murder Mystery is gone from TT, but still available at SAE. I don’t know if this has been posted before.

Best as I can tell -- everything available at SAE has over 50 copies assuming the cart trick for under 50 is still functional. I know it was still working normally at the beginning of the sale when several of the items Sold Out (The Train, Scorpio, Miss Sadie, etc) so I assume that still is a reasonably accurate.

There is a running list in the Deals thread of items
Since the sale started these items have also sold out at TT.com, but all still >50 copies at SAE

1st week of the sale sell out at TT.com:
Exodus, Count Yorga, Strange Invaders, Bridge at Remagen, How to Steal a Million, Manhattan Murder

In the last 4-5 days these items have also now sold out at the TT.com site:
Long Hot Summer, Gloria, Doctor Doolittle (again)

Nothing currently is critically low at TT.com, but Auto Focus and Hot Rock are down to around 40 copies and Black Widow (1987), Forever Amber, the Bravados, and The Incident are around 50.

From the numbers I had at the beginning of the sale, the best seller that remains in stock at TT.com appears to be The Hot Rock (over 70 copies sold) and then Auto Focus and The Bravados (over 50). In the last 5 days, The Incident has been pretty popular selling approx 25 copies similar to the other 3 items mentioned.

Gloria had around 80 copies at TT.com when the sale started and seems to be the best seller so far though I suspect Hot Rock (110 at the beginning of the sale) will pass it in the next few days.

When titles are gone on SAE you aren't supposed to be able to search them correct?

I'm finding now I search and click on it and it finds no results. Must have changed recently. I've been ordering on the TT site the last few sales.

The search function on SAE has been a bit messed up for a while now. If you just type a word (s) and click the Search button it usually works, but if you type a word then select from the dropdown menu first, then click Search it will be empty

I find it easier to just use the Twilight Time Company Filter and organize by price or alphabet.

For things that are really OOS usually they don't show up on the site at all, but a lot of people have thought things were OOS that weren't. Are you looking for something specific?

A couple of posts back I talked about this: SAE has been messed up since at least last November. You can't find specific titles through the search bar, so just do the following: type in "Twilight Time" and look through the pages for what you want, set to display alphabetically to make it easier.

Thanks for that! I don't look at westerns too much. I have too many that I haven't watched so I'm chilling out on them for now. Going to plan a marathon sometime soon!

...but I'm going to have to get this soon because Fritz Lang, Henry Fonda, Gene Tierney, and did I mention Gene Tierney. Her debut no less

Just looking for The Boston Strangler. I was mainly looking to see if it was cheaper as unlikely as that is. I'm sure they follow the same price brackets, right?

I'll probably make two orders from the TT site. Just need to make sure I get ones that are closer to being gone. I think The Boston Strangler would be one. Most of the others I was are pretty new.

The price levels are identical on both sites. Shipping is a bit cheaper on smaller order on TT.com and much cheaper on 10+ item orders, but both sites have a significant 1st item charge so I'd try to make a single order to save several dollars

As best as I can tell -- The Boston Strangler still has 400+ copies at TT.com.

This is the list I can find of items less than 100 on TT.com. All except Most Beautiful Wife are also 50+ on SAE.

HOT ROCK, THE (1972) 42
AUTO FOCUS (2002) 43
BLACK WIDOW (1987) 51
THE BRAVADOS (1958) 51
FOREVER AMBER (1947) 52
THE INCIDENT (1967) 55
EDGE OF ETERNITY (1959) 63
CRIMSON KIMONO, THE (1959) 70
PANIC IN NEEDLE PARK, THE (1971) 71
BRUTAL TALES OF CHIVALRY (AKA SHOWA ZANKYO-DEN (1965) 73
HARLOCK SPACE PIRATE (2013 / 2 DISC / 2D AND 3D) 73
Most Beautiful Wife, The (La Moglie Piu Bella) 96
COWBOY (1958) 97
I WANT TO LIVE (1958) 109 (1st item over 100)

Last night I rewatched Woody Allen’s Husbands and Wives after an initial viewing some 15 years ago. I didn’t like it too much then as I found all the characters obnoxious but the rewatch fared much better.

The characters are still all obnoxious but their self absorption and narcissism is obviously deliberate and I guess I have learned over the last 15 years that this is also reflective of most people. What I also enjoyed more this time around are some of the performances, Judy Davis in particular has some hilarious throwaway bits and Lysette Anthony’s character also has some great scenes with Sydney Pollack’s character.

Not peak Allen for me personally, but probably still in the top 10 I have seen so far.

Twilight Time’s blu is from an older Sony master. Detail is good, sound is good, but I thought the colours were off, particularly the amped up black level that throws off the colour balance in most scenes. But a new scan is unlikely, so it’s still the best way to see the film.

What was their rationale for switching to blue cases for some releases? I don't think it was only encore editions?
