Blind-bought Next Stop, Greenwich Village during the sale. There's no review here for it, not even a thread for it, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. It's a semi-autobiographical coming of age comedy-drama from Paul Mazursky about a struggling young actor in early 50s New York and his small circle of friends. There are a lot of cliched characters and situations including Shelley Winters as the overbearing Jewish mother, but it seemed to have a good sense of time and place and I enjoyed spending time with these people anyway. A lot of well known actors such as Jeff Goldblum, Joe Spinell, Vincent Schiavelli and Bill Murray have small roles, and I was really impressed by Ellen Greene as the cold-hearted girlfriend, particularly as I was only really familiar with her work in Little Shop of Horrors. It's a Fox licenced title and the PQ on the disc was fantastic.

I posted this in the sale thread, but I though I may get more of a response here in the main thread.

I have been waiting this sale out, but with stock selling out on certain titles at TT.com, I am pushed toward ordering some of the $14.95 titles at SAE even though I feel like there will likely be a fire sale at some point down the line. This is what I have in my cart, maybe someone can talk me off the ledge on way or the other. (these are really only ones that have sold out or are low stock at TT.com)

Ones that I do not want to miss:

Edge of Eternity
Long, Hot Summer
The Bravados
The Hot Rock

Ones that I am interested in, but am unsure:

Gun Fury
Model Shop
Gloria
Doctor Dolittle
Bridge at Remagen

Get your copy of The Bravados Star! You’ll thank me. I can’t speak for the others.

As a film, Doctor Dolittle is a complete dog but for anyone that's a fan of it, the blu-ray is absolutely fantastic.

I blind bought this, too, and enjoyed it as well. While watching it, some of it seemed very familiar and I have vague recollections of seeing it before on cable in the late 70's or early 80's. I looked up the lead actor, Lenny Baker, and it was sad to find out he died of AIDS related disease 6 years after this film. He was also nominated for a Golden Globe for "Debut" performance for this film.

I'd focus on getting the Fox titles first since Disney is going to toss everything in the vaults.

I would agree that focusing on the Fox titles might be better, but as it turns out only one of drb's "must haves" is not a Fox title, and only one of his "unsures" is. And I would agree with RCRochester's opinion on Doctor Dolittle (as a film).

I'd say that all of the others in either of drb's lists are movies worth getting.

Not to be an enabler, but I don't think you can go wrong with any of these, though I myself would skip DOLITTLE and MODEL SHOP. The former is exasperatingly slow and dull and while I know MODEL SHOP has lots of fans, I wasn't very impressed with it. It does have some great time capsule views of my hometown of Los Angeles, but I've always found Gary Lockwood to be dead man walking and I thought the story was self-indulgent nothing. YMMV.
The rest of your choices are, even at the most minimum level, very entertaining and well worth having in your library.

If you're a 3-D fan, you should pick up Gun Fury because I don't see how that title will ever get another release. And if you have kids who like animals, Doctor Dolittle is probably going to entertain them--although it seems unbelievable in retrospect that it was nominated for Best Picture.

I've been struggling with figuring out TWILIGHT TIME titles as well. I bought about 9 of them earlier last month but there's still more than a few I'd like to have.

These are not huge wants, just titles I'd enjoy having in my collection.
With the heavy shipping costs I don't want to buy a bunch more titles at $15 if they're going to be ten bucks or less soon.

... and of course many titles I paid $15 to $20 are at $8.99 right now I'm not good as predicting what I would think would sell quickly--- for instance horror titles and Bronson titles I thought would sell out fast... and they haven't...

Thanks for everyone's feedback on The Hot Rock.

I had to order from Screen Archives, as it didn't show up at Twilight Time.
It's also listed as the #1 selling title this week at Screen Archives...

Picked up My Cousin Rachel. It's a blind buy, but it's a Daphne Du Maurier adaptation with Olivia de Havilland, so how could I resist?

This has been on my list as well. I read the novel and love de Havilland. I don't know why I haven't pulled the trigger...aside from the fact my trigger finger has been getting too much exercise.

It's a great movie, so I'd say it's a safe bet

Speaking of Du Maurier (and pardon for the tangent) I had occasion in the last month to think about her work that touches on the fringe of SF/Fantasy. One of them was the novel Rule Britannia. To quote Wikipedia's article on the novel:

Quote:
Rule Britannia is Daphne du Maurier's last novel, published in 1972 by Victor Gollancz. The novel is set in a fictional near future in which the UK's recent withdrawal from the EEC has brought the country to the verge of bankruptcy.
Which means that 50 years ago, Du Maurier wrote the first Brexit novel.

Is no one updating low stock for the sale anymore? I don't think the sale thread is in dead deals but no one is posting in it.

I have this one, but haven’t watched it yet. I did enjoy the new adaptation with Rachel Weiss though.

Also, thanks for the responses to my question about the low quantity titles. I think I can cross Dolittle and Model Shop off my list barring a price drop. I will likely get the main 4 that I want, and then make a decision if stock gets low at SAE on the others.

Hariseldon was doing an excellent job of updating (and with proper punctuation usage as an added treat ), but he seems to be MIA the last couple of days? I hope he’s ok. He’s an integral part of these forums.
