Looks like msg_marketplace is an Ebay seller with a lot of stock, but unfortunately for me their shipping to Canada is almost more than their asking price for discs

Poor George Cukor, even he couldn't save it, but I still have the memory of Glynis on the beach reading Dostoyevsky.
And I always remember her saying in that movie: "Kiss me, kiss me. You might like it."

Yup. Sigh...

Well this is a forum about products, not just a forum about movies. So the threads follow a natural cycle. Wishlist, announcement, anticipation, shipping, receiving, reviews, discovering problems, replacement programs... you get the idea.

For a thread like this one that is about a label's entire catalog, you can also throw sales into the mix, which generate the shipping, receiving portion of the cycle.

Whenever there was a movie that this site didn't review or provide screenshots, I turned to the user reviews or the release-specific thread to look for information - I can't read all 1,700 pages of this catalog thread for that. Those release-specific threads are where it would be better to have discussions about the movies and the releases, but unfortunately the ones I turned to were generally pretty empty.

In other news, we're just about approaching the 1 month mark since 5/10...

so if you know know what you’re looking for, you can find it. but the browsing by genre is garbage, and it’s not curated. and there is no quality control. so am i getting a shitty vhs copy bootleg, is this a cleaned up version? is this the rated or unrated? some of the titles on amazon video look awful.

now i browse on the xbox 360 and functionality is awful. and i wish i could mark stuff to not show up. i keep getting recommended the same shit over and over again. like, if i could mark “i already own this title”, that would be way better. i can’t imagine that’s function that would be super hard to implement,

criterion channel and shudder are the optimal experiences. maybe that’s because they have smaller libraries. but i want that video store feel.

I suppose it depends on what you want to get out of it. Back when Netflix was pretty much the only option for streaming, I'd browse the listings, and I'd take chances on films that looked interesting and that Netflix predicted that I'd rate highly. They were scarily accurate about what they thought I'd like.

Once the listings became far too numerous to browse, I would just search for specific titles I wanted to try. Same on any other streaming site (unless the catalog is relatively small). I have enough things I know I want to watch, and just don't have the time to spend looking for things I don't already know about.

Don't be jealous, but I actually met her very, very briefly in the 90's at the Director's Guild Of America in Los Angeles. At the time they were celebrating 100 years of cinema with different documentaries produced especially for the occasion by various countries (Scorsese directed the USA entry).

Glynis attended the one about the history of British film and I was introduced to her, but we didn't even shake hands, just smiled and that was it. Of course, she didn't look like the same Glynis that you became infatuated with long ago, but she was a nice looking older lady with agelessly beautiful eyes and a sweet grin. Unfortunately, she did not speak at all before I left to get my seat, so I missed out on her voice.

My order from SAE from May 10, shipped May 13, of 15 titles arrived today. Customs document accurately states $202.20US (shipping not included), but I was not charged anything by Canada Customs.
This order included a copy of Whirlpool, which I've never seen before but purchased based upon recommendations here.

Got my TT order today; I placed the order on 5/11, and it shipped on 5/28. Glad I got the ones I wanted. I ordered a copy of Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte used on eBay as well, and it showed up today too. Gonna have a marathon over the next day or two.

Just finished watching Whirlpool. Jose Ferrer is an interesting bad guy. Director Otto Preminger made a few films I like, but I'm not always impressed with his thrillers. Compared to Hitchcock, where they almost never miss, I find parts of his to fall flat a bit. I wonder if producer Zanuck has something to do with that? You read about how controlling he was at Fox, always thinking he knew best & overruling directors & stars - but actually he ended up watering things down. I haven't seen the picture he made wirh Alice Faye a few years previously to Whirlpool titled Fallen Angel, but in a documentary on another Alice Faye dvd it talks quite a bit about that film. Faye had her hopes pinned on it helping her move into more dramatic roles, but then Zanuck had what she felt was her best work all taken out. She walked out on her contract with Fox and didn't do another film for 17 years.
Back to Whirlpool, what fell a bit flat for me was there wasn't a great deal of tension since
[Show spoiler] the viewer believes Tierney's character, and knows she is innocent, even when the husband doubts her. If this was a Hitchcock film there would be a doubt for the audience that maybe she is lying, maybe she did have an affair. Instead we're just waiting for the husband & police to clue in. I think Zanuck couldn't handle having any possible suggestion even for a moment that any of his starlets weren't completely unspoiled & innocent.

The blu-ray picture quality is very good, much better than some of the recent releases of Universal controlled b&w films from the 40's I have purchased recently.

Did you choose the extra expensive USPS/Canada Post option?

No, I've always been fine with orders from SAE. They aren't using media mail for the lower price, but proper parcel post (I don't know the exact term) just not tracked. Before the pandemic it was usually a bit over a week, and my last 3 orders from them in March, April, and now May all were about 2 weeks. Considering it takes things about a week to come from Ontario this is pretty good.
In January for the 1st time ever I had 2 parcels of single discs from Amazon 3rd party sellers go missing in the mail. I have never had big parcels not show up. Smaller items may have been in a neighborhood drop box waiting for the carrier that got hit by crack heads. But big parcels are not left in those.

I've been ordering like crazy since (all you guys') talk about the sale started over a month ago, and I have received pretty much nothing yet except one DeepDiscount order. I suspect that I will receive what is going to be about 50+ dvds all in the same week, I won't even have time to open and inspect the discs, let alone have the routine check of extras and playability / image check, before I will receive the next batch.
Unless I go into seclusion (my current binge watch is the whole The Good Wife dvd set)
At least my two big TT orders are no longer "awaiting fulfullment" and are now "awaiting shipment" which makes me hopeful that I only got one item cancelled which I luckily ordered over at Self Address Envelope

Congratulations! I just received a notification that my 714xx order from 5/10 has shipped as well, and should be here on Thursday, June 04. I ordered 33 titles, and it shipped complete.
That leaves me with three orders still outstanding at Twilight Time:

05/12 772xx - 5 titles
05/14 779xx - 12 titles I was notified that a 13th title, Tom Sawyer/Huckleberry Finn, will not ship.

I've already received the 9-title order I placed at SAE on May 11, and my second SAE order for 17 titles, which includes a replacement order for Tom Sawyer/Huckleberry Finn, is still Pending.

I've now ordered all the titles that I absolutely "must-have." There are others I'm mildly curious about, but can live without unless they are discounted further in the future. The change in Twilight Time's status as a company has hit me harder than I expected. The two or three months after the release of The Tall Men and Whirlpool, when there was speculation that the label might shut down, I worked into a place of acceptance. Then, when nothing happened, I started growing hopeful again. When the last shoe dropped, I was jolted. I think my affinity with the company was strong because they released so many Fox titles that I wanted on blu-ray, and as long as they were viable, I could imagine that more were coming down the pike. Well, they had a good run, and I'll have lots of wonderful discs in my library to remind me of them ...

Not looking good for me, then. My #766xx order was made on 5/11, and included Sawyer/Finn. It's one of the ones that's been saying that it can't be re-ordered due to it being no longer available.

I still have some sold-out-at-TTM titles in my wish list at SAE, waiting for my TTM order to ship so that I can know what others I need to add to the wish list so I can place the order there.
