Well, I finally received my Twilight Time order that I placed on 5/10. All twelve titles were shipped and received. I never did get a shipping notice or any other communication from them other than the standard "be patient" email blasts.
This might finally be it for me ordering from TT unless Bye Bye Birdie comes back in stock. |

Damn. But hopefully you won’t think of any of that while you’re watching them. If you enjoy the movies and have a great time watching them, it’s a fair price after all.

Day 1 Order finally arrived haven't opened any of them so unsure about internal damages, but assuming things are in order.
Unless they really drop prices and offer basically free shipping (SAE, not TT), hard to imagine this not being the end....left with a bitter taste of outrageous shipping charges on a small box that was less than 3 pounds and took over a month longer than expected to ship. Not exaclty a great way to end the legacy after giving the company thousands of dollars in sales from my wallet. Hopefully some of that impression will fade as I'm left with a number of gems I never would have seen in decent bit rate HD with lossless audio. And though most didn't come in this recent batch, I have to give some thanks to bringing more Gene Tierney, Rita Hayworth, Joan Fontaine, Olivia DeHavaland, Audrey Hepburn into my home in HD. |

If you google de minimis you will find a CBC article from a few years back with a survey or study that found that if you use a courier rather than the post office that you are more likely to get charged for going over the de minimis of $20. This is Fed Ex going out of their way to collect customs so that they can make money off of their additional charges. Unofficially, due to a complaint by the US government, that Canada's de minimis of $20 is too low, there has been an unwritten policy for a couple years not to enforce it. But courier companies like Fed Ex make more money with their exorbitant fees, so they will enforce the de minimis. The only place that uses Fed Ex that I will buy from, is somewhere like Barnes & Noble during a Criterion sale. They charge GST upfront on Canadian orders, and submit it to the Canadian government. Then since that is all taken care of, the parcel will come through without any surprise extras. |

Hey billydillydilly you are being ripped-off, there is no duty on Blu-rays or DVDs shipped from the US to Canada if they are made in North America or Mexico. The only thing you have to pay is the GST and your Provincial sales tax and the Fedex extortion fee so you would have to have paid about $575.00 Canadian for the 14 Blu-rays to be charged that much tax.

Since it doesn't have a dedicated thread, a question about The Admirable Crichton (1957), aka Paradise Lagoon according to IMDb...
- IMDb lists the theatrical aspect at 1.75:1 - The trapsheet lists the TT release as 1.85:1 - The playback itself, cropped on the sides at 1799x1080, is 1.66:1 I've just submitted the updated specs on this site accordingly, but does anyone have any insight on this particular title? |

No, the 1.66 UK default is a bit of a myth. There were equal amounts of 1.75 and 1.85 going on during that time in the UK, per Furmanek's research. The "most were 1.66" idea came from DVD transfers of the 2000s that simply applied 1.66 across the board without looking into the documentation of the era.

Finally received my big May 10th order a couple of days ago. 13 titles out of 14 in the original order, only lost one along the way, which I was able to pick up at SAC. Certain titles on the invoice were highlighted, so I could tell that those were probably the hold-ups for getting stocked.
Opened up and watched "WHO'LL STOP THE RAIN" last night. A film I was barely familiar with before and probably would have skipped, had it not been for TWILIGHT TIME's endorsement and preservation on the Blu-ray format. It doesn't quite beat 'CUTTER'S WAY' for me in terms of late 70s/early 80s malaise, but it's still an interesting film with a lot of nice moments, and good performances all around. I particularly love the final half-hour. I will always be thankful for Twilight Time. |
