Blu-ray Samurai

Just wanted to reiterate Mr Harris's position -- we were informed by Sony when we were preparing this release, that despite rumors to the contrary there was no evidence that Nicholas and Alexandra had ever been shown in stereo, ever, anywhere. Sony has no documentation of stereo tracks ever existing, and all the vaulted 70mm prints in Sony's possession are all resolutely mono. The new Blu-ray does have the intermission and "entr'acte" music, and the new transfer is beyond gorgeous. Slowly moving to the top of my want list... |

At least this appears to clear up one lingering mystery - the imagined lost stereo mix for Nicholas and Alexandra which has almost become a movie geek urban legend. I guess the assumption has always been that all 70mm films minimally have stereo tracks. But this was, after all, a 35mm blow-up to 70mm at the tail end of the roadshow era (early 70s) during the height of the indie/youth boom when studios were cutting back on such presentational enhancements, especially for traditional epic-style historical biographies, which were themselves an increasingly rare and endangered species. Actually, it wasn't until the mid-to-late 70s that sound came back with a Dolby bang via movies like Jaws and Logan's Run, and especially Star Wars , Close Encounters and Superman. So considering the era when N&A was released, I have no difficulty imagining such epic-on-a-shoestring exhibition choices...just the mere fact that it was filmed in 35mm and blown-up, instead of being natively shot in 70mm. |

...if you're a TT completist (including DVDs) and haven't yet purchased Fate is the Hunter , SAE's always trustworthy cart count dropped from 200 late last week, to 100 and change yesterday, and just 17 this evening!
![]() Even if that cart is off, I think the next TT "SOLD OUT" announcement will be coming any day (or hour) now... |

![]() As SD goes, especially from a Sony master, TT's Fate is the Hunter DVD looked just fine, even upscaled: ![]() This is TT's first DVD sellout, coming at roughly the 2/3 point in their original 3000 unit/3 year window. So they're into new turf here in terms of their licensing relationship with Sony. I'm curious to see what they'll do, if anything... Last edited by ROclockCK; 01-24-2013 at 06:40 AM. |

Sorry to interrupt this, i'd like your opinion on something.
I want to buy 3 TT releases: Christine, The Fury, Nicholas and Alexandra but I think I'll have money only for 2. Now, i will buy Christine certainly, but what of the other 2 do you think will sell out more quickly so as to get that and save the other for later? |

Experiment in Terror was a blind buy and I thought it was great. Blake Edwards direction, the score, the acting, everything was cool.
As soon as the score started during the opening sequence, I was immediately reminded of the Twin Peaks score. It blew my mind when we see the shot of the "Twin Peaks" sign right after. |
