Anyone from Europe have experience ordering from SAE? How are their shipping times? Want to order a bunch of stuff, but haven't dealt with them before. Oh, and are there (upcoming) sales I should be aware of? Coupon codes are also appreciated

I ordered this year for the first time from them, after the closing of TTs own online shop. The package arrived safe & sound; shipping costs are quite high and if you don´t use their premium shipping service, they will not account for lost international packages. Also they state the real price of the item on the package, so it´s very likely you´ll have to pay local VAT in your country.

Therefor, it´s quite pricey. I´m currently planing my next order from them with so far 10 WAC BDs and 2 Sony MOD BDs I cannot get from amazon.com at least right now. With premium shipping I´m almost at 400$. Not including additional local VAT (18% in my case). If amazon.com would let me buy those items on their side, I would be around 300$ including VAT. So thats a big difference, around almost 50% more expensive than amazon for me all in all.

They had a recent sale on TT BDs in December, but now they are rebooting the line and most likely try to keep their prices up. TT had in the end more or less at least quarterly sales. With SAE it´s not that often and I don´t think they really have a fixed schedule like Criterion or other boutique labels. So there are sales, but at least to my knowledge not that predictable when they will happen in the future.

Disney would make more than a few appearances on that list. Walt was just as interested in making money as anyone else, but I truly feel he would be appalled to see what the company he started has become.

Thanks for your reply!

This bit surprised me:

"...and if you don´t use their premium shipping service, they will not account for lost international packages"

Does their policy override all other policies, like those of your CC company? It's odd. Wouldn't it just be better (for them and for us) if they disabled shipping to countries where packages are often lost?

I think I will give them a shot. Twilight Time is really the only option for a whole bunch of movies, and SAE seems to be the only option left for TT.

I‘m not so sure why they are doing it that way, but they state this big and red and mighty before you actually place your order. I will just add a few more TT and take the Premium Shipping. I kind of decided during the last couple of months, that I‘ll not cheapen out on those costs anymore. And when I‘m ordering for around 400-500$ I‘m not willing to take a hustle if the package will arrive. Without their premium shipping their is also not even a tracking system in place. I never lost an international order, till now. But I often have to track them down, where they actually are in the end. At a postal service? A neighbor? A Pick-Up Store? The customs office? Quite a few possibilities to take into account...

That's true. If the price difference is huge, I will take the premium shipping option.

Here in America, which is the prime target for media consumption we have seen Disney release and re-release the vast majority of major Disney properties on every format.

The idea they never cared about physical media is absurd.

Not sure what the future holds, and yes Im' still waiting on What About Bob? on bluray or 4K.....but the notion Disney hasn't supported Physical media is a notion that has no basis in reality. In fact, I'd argue there are few companies that have released as high a percentage of the core catalog on Bluray and better.

Recent acquistions not included.

Here in Germany Disney does not have a vault program and does literally not release anything outside of their main catalog on BD. There is no Splash, no What about Bob, no Flubber. None of all this 80s and 90s live Action Disney Movies. This year Disney released three new titles on BD: Toy Story 4, Onward, Mulan. No catalog titles. Not one. From my point of view, they are not interested in physical medium anymore, when they treat one of the biggest media markets in the world after the US that way. And even in the US, when did they release even a new vault BD via the Disney Movie Club? Is any new title in the work or announced? Since the started Disney+ it‘s very clear, in which direction they are heading.

What I meant with they never were interested in actually selling movies via home media is, that Disney always preferred putting their titles in a vault situation or re-release them in cinemas every five to ten years and make people pay again for limited access each and every time. But VHS and DVD were so popular and profitable they just couldn’t really ignore these market segments anymore. But now the times are changing again, and Disney naturally tends to a business model were they can rent you access to their properties, without selling it to you for a one time payment. Also they stay in control and can alter their content as they feel to need to. Have you watched Splash on Disney+? It’s not the DVD Version, they censored the film. Have you watched Lilo & Stitch? It’s not the DVD or BD Version, they censored it. Have you watched Aladdin? Censored it. They want to stay in total control of their image and content and they will rent you their properties not sell them to you from my point of view.

What the hell? What did they censor with Aladdin and Lilo and Stitch?

Lilo & Stitch on Disney+ is the UK version, where Lilo climbs into an open-face shelf and blocks it with a pizza box instead of climbing into and closing a dryer.

This is an old change, first introduced when the film was released on DVD in the UK. The concern was children imitating the behavior and getting stuck in the dryer I guess? Not sure where I stand on that as a practical matter, but it's certainly not some new 2020 or Disney+-specific thing.

I ordered from SAE about 4 times and went with their 'premium' service each time. It Cost about $90US which is about $120 CAD. That's A LOT. It's kind of turned me off to buy anything else from them.

I went ahead and placed an order at SAE. All films that have not been released anywhere else, so no alternatives. Will update when it arrives here (the Netherlands)

You don't have to go with that "premium shipping". I've been ordering without it for years and the shipments have always arrived quickly and well packaged, with tracking numbers that work on the Canada Post website. I suppose if you live in an area where porch pirates are a risk it's good to CYA, but I've never had to go that route.

So this package finally arrived today, and it's legit the Twilight Time release. Definitely not a boot. The description said "Good condition" but this thing is absolutely mint. Case, disc, booklet. Everything. It looks like they just took the shrinkwrap off and immediately put it up for sale. $38 is roughly what I would've paid for this, shipped to Canada from SAE brand new. And it's been OOP for years. Print looks spectacular as well.

2021 is starting out pretty well I must say. So glad to finally have this in my collection.

Lyrics to the Arabian Nights Song and as mentioned before dryer to a shelf with a pizza box. Those changes sometimes are not new or exclusive to Disney+, but with Disney+ they are now worldwide changes.

They also censored Toy Story 2, because of an after credit scene and concerns regarding the current MeToo Movement.

I've also always chosen the cheapest shipping option, which yes, gets handed over to Canada Post when it enters Canada. Every order I've placed with them has been delivered with no issues. I ordered the TT edition of Warlock over the holidays (who knows if anyone will be re-releasing it as it's a Fox-licensed title) and I can already track it on the Canada Post website.

Do not waste your money on their overpriced shipping scam. Go with the cheapest option. It's still trackable and (at least in my case) I've never had a package from SAE go missing. If it did I would just contact VISA.

~Matt
