For the record, I didn't "stuff myself" for $45, there were 2 of us and we ordered the cheapest thing on the menu and it still came out to $45 plus tip. The point was, people don't think twice about dropping exorbitant sums of money on "momentary" things like dining out and trips to the hair salon, but spending a bit more than they usually do at Best Buy for a movie that they can watch over and over at their leisure seems to be where they have a big problem.
There are 2 types of people who watch movies: those who walk away from a theater screening thinking about something OTHER than the movie they just saw, and those who walk away in awe and excited after just having watched the same film and counts the days until it comes out on Blu-ray. The latter category are the kinds of people who never think twice about spending $30 on a movie. Which category are you? |

Remind me here, what's Criterion's list price for most of their Blu-rays? $39.99, isn't it? And how many of them don't exactly go overboard on the extras? Were people calling them immoral or despicable when they put out Three Outlaw Samurai at $29.95 with just a trailer and booklet?
As for extras, TT's Our Man Flint not only carried over extras from the Ultimate Flint boxed set but even dug up several that weren't included, as is the case with Nicholas and Alexandra. It's true that sometimes extras aren't carried over from older DVD titles, but that's often for contractual reasons - a lot of early special features contracts specified DVD and VHS use only, so a further payment or renegotiation would be necessary for Blu-ray: while the payment itself might be small (though still prohibitive for a small label), often the studios themselves regard it as a waste of their time and resources to get their lawyers to take another look at the contracts or do a basic amendment. Back-catalog titles are not a priority to them, and unless it's likely to be a big seller you're reliant on their goodwill. Make too much work for them, and sooner or later someone will ask why you're wasting their time for so little money and the supply dries up. Last edited by Aclea; 02-02-2013 at 02:23 PM. Since many of their titles, even discounted from their $39.95 list price, are $31.95, does that mean that your objection to TT's titles is purely that they're limited? Because its doubtful that some of Criterion's titles even press 3000 copies in the entire duration of the contract. Or do you have some other point?

To put my two cents into the debate, the 3000 limit doesn't bother me. If it's a title I like, I'll try to get it. If it sells out beforehand, I'll just stick with a DVD. I've found many copies of titles like AGAIG, SM and Philadelphia at secondhand stores for $2-$5.

I don't mind TT as I personally bought several of there titles and will continue to buy more. Its Sony that has me scratching my head with titles like Philadelphia. |

First The Song of Bernadette and NOW Leave Her to Heaven?! How does Fox not think they can make money off of those?! I better start checking every day to see if the preorders are up because I'm afraid they'll both sell out in a flash

The more Blu-ray releases, the better. We all have our label preferences and we can disagree. However, at this point, the TT business model has been dissected a billion times and continued postings about this will be treated as "thread crapping. There are many members actually interested in discussing the films getting released and that is the main idea of this thread.

The TT haters have generally stayed away and confined themselves to the individual film threads, where many of the same members post the same complaints and vitriol, again and again, crapping up every thread and essentially hijacking it. Now, with the latest batch of announcements yesterday, they have started dogpiling into this thread. There used to be a separate thread for people to engage in "spirited" debate and rants about company business models and practices, but it disappeared in the June site crash. For the record, I'm merely dissappointed that some of the titles are not reaching the audience they could with a wide release. I'm not attacking TT's business model or the employees. The only attacks I'm making are directed at Fox; not at Twilight Time. Fox is doing business poorly while Twilight Time is doing it well. My apologies, I got a bit carried away a little while ago. Never use a forum when under the influence of anger.

Don't forget to also kick out the complainers complaining about the complainers. I'm tired of seeing BOTH. It's causes these threads to grow ten times in length compared to if people just ignored the posts.
