Hmm I was thinking this too but now I don't know. I'm sure the scalpers will get theirs to sell on ebay.
But hopefully that won't but a big dent into the stock.

First of all, any cult-horror titles Twilight Time puts out will sell. Also, take into account the greater awareness Twilight Time gets with each of these titles. Barely anyone on these boards knew who they were until after Fright Night sold out. They got greater awareness with Journey To The Center Of The Earth (specifically with the Pat Boone-autographed copies), more awareness with Night Of The Living Dead, and even MORE awareness with Christine.

So I definitely see The Blob selling. I don't see as much hype for it as I did with Christine (although that may chance once it officially has a date), though Christine had both the John Carpenter name and the Stephen King name attached to it which helped out. I could see it selling out inbetween the time it took for both Christine and Night Of The Living Dead to sell.

Mind you, I'll still probably ask off of work the day pre-orders go up. If I wasn't off today, I might not have been able to get a copy of Christine...

Christine has John Carpenter and Stephen King, two of horror's most well-known figures.

I'd rank THE BLOB ('88) around the same stature as NOTLD90 as far as popularity. Both were boxoffice bombs that have amassed a large fanbase over the years through video and cable. Both are remakes of beloved classics. NOTLD has Savini's name and zombies, so those are big pluses, but THE BLOB remake is a much better film (in my opinion, I know others will feel differently) so I call it an even draw. THE BLOB will definitely sell out.

I also think THE FURY would be selling a lot faster if it was the only horror title being released today. But CHRISTINE stole its thunder and took off with all the attention today. Still, THE FURY is doing relatively well regardless. Almost 1/3 sold in less than 10 hours is not bad at all. As far as ENEMY MINE goes, it's sci-fi, not horror, so it doesn't get that passionate horror fanbase demand.

By the way... anyone wanting a 'companion' to watch Christine with, look no further. Funny the mailing for this arrived just tonight.

It's 1/18th scale, die-cast, $80, and it's here: http://www.monstersinmotion.com/cart/spaceships-vehicles-item-list-a-e-c-13_191/1958-plymouth-fury-christine-1-18-scale-die-cast-p-18090

I wouldn't think so. Importing is not a huge concern, and Sony certainly has little incentive to region-lock them, because a release of their own nets them more profit than a joint release where they split profits with TT, and TT doesn't have the pull to get Sony to lock their discs.

There is still nomdefinitive release date for The Blob '88 yet; is there? That seems odd.

Agreed, this is a bit shitty - it's the only valid TT complaint. Anyone who forgot about the 15th or was unavailable for the day is now gonna have to shell out on ebay. No-one should be allowed to order more than 2 copies.

btw love the Blob remake.

Glad I visit this site daily because if I didn't, I wouldn't have known that the Christine BD was up for preorder yesterday. Last month I received a preorder notice from Twilight Time; this month I didn't get one. Thankful that I got my order in for both Christine and The Fury. Still, I'm more psyched to own Song of Bernadette!

I asked this same question on their Facebook page yesterday and was bluntly told by their representative to make sure I ordered on 15 Feb at 4pm and don't worry about anyone else. Rather crude response that seems to promote the secondary market gouging that is already occurring on the auction sites.

This is based on the Ertl/Joyride model from a few years ago but improvements have been made to the finish and detailing. Autoworld are also doing a 1/25th diecast with clear glass and a resin 1/43. The one to get is the 1/25 Danbury Mint, you'll find it on ebay but its not cheap these days. They also did a matching Dodge Charger

Christine was announced as an upcoming TT title - like what - last September or October? Its exact release and pre-order dates have been known since at least November. And that pre-order date has been posted and reposted here as well as in the dedicated Christine thread ad nauseum ever since. So this release was anything but a deeply buried secret on some obscure geek site, known only to a privileged few. In fact, what we witnessed yesterday afternoon and evening, including the initial strain on SAE's Amazon-hosted eCommerce servers, was at least indirectly the result of everyone's complete willingness to share all of this upcoming release news over the past 4 or 5 months. Word was out there in countless sites and blogs across the 'Net...all basically saying the same thing, "If you love this movie and want one of these limited run Blu-rays, your window of opportunity is at 4pm EST on February 15, 2013. After that, you take your chances, at least for the forseeable future."

Like any other limited collectible, there's no rulebook for how something like this will play out, only observation of past buying patterns mixed with predictive human behaviour. So all of the tom-tom thumping over Christine might have amounted to a lot of wishful thinking, or, as it turned out, sign of a perfect storm of supply vs. demand brewing. You just never know for sure about some stuff until it actually happens. But short of grabbing folks by the collar and forcing them to sit still long enough to place an order for something they really really want, or urging them to make arrangements with friends or family to cover it for them, what can we, TT, or anyone else do? I mean, some dedicated fans were counting down the days, hours, and minutes until this thing went live.

So maybe "Day One" will start to mean something again, at least with this label. It's not the Fall of '11 anymore; seven TT Blu-rays and DVDs have already sold out - that's one sixth of their entire catalogue - with several others now under 1000. It was a bugger for me getting home in time for the pre-order today, and I had to let another plan slide, but I just didn't want to take any chance on which way this one would go. In retrospect, I'm glad I made that effort, otherwise I would have been logging in after 11:00 pm last night to find "nada".

In this case, 'lightning' actually did 'strike'.

The Blob '88 will sell out in a couple days. I don't see it selling out in one day like Christine. It wouldn't surprise me if it sells out in three, because everyone gets caught up in the Twilight Time panic and think they have struck gold again..

There is a real demand for Christine and I believe the secondary market will show that. No one will have a problem selling extra copies. For The Blob '88 even if scalpers pick them all up, the demand will not be as high. I have heard people say Christine is there favorite horror movie, I have never heard any one ever in my life talk about Blob '88.

Fright Night and Christine are way better movies then the Blob '88.

It's hard to determine what titles will be in demand. I would rather have The Blob than Fright Night, Christine, or Night of the Living Dead 90. I also like The Fury more than all of them, but there's still plenty of copies of that available. Maybe I just have bad taste in movies .

If as a noob you're dumb enough to ask "why do people think anybody else in the world cares that they've just ordered a title, or hope it arrives on a certain day of the week?" you get a shitstorm of "Who are you to criticise members of our 'community', Mr rude and annoying noob?" responses.

As a result I spend far too much time in "Collectibles" and "UK" desperately trying to find real release/status information that is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Until now just trawling through those two forums every morning and evening has taken up far more time than I'd like, but seemingly the site is all about traffic and advertising so nothing's likely to change with regard to the very poor signal vs noise ratio, and anybody who wanders naively in (that'll be me then!) and comments on this poor moderation/usefulness of the forums gets a quick slapdown. Or if you try and post genuine information of use to people via an external link a "That is a site competing with ours for hard-won eyeballs. Desist immediately" slapdown.

But I digress. The point I wanted to make is we don't all have time to trawl the numerous forums on here - that would be a full time job and friends already have me in the "sad Blu-ray anorak" category for the amount of time I spend on here and elsewhere trying to find out about new releases I'm interested in.

As a customer who has until now pre-ordered every title Twilight/Screen Archives Entertainment (why don't they just call themselves Twilight since they're the ony company you can order the titles from I assume they're one and the same thing?!) have released, I rely on Screen that company emailing me pre-order details of their Twilight titles. Even when I haven't been THAT interested in the title I've ended up on the "They're doing limited edition runs of films that would otherwise never see the light of day so I should support them" and end up ordering them. I don't think there's a title I've missed. Until this morning!

I got the first pre-order notification I've seen about "Christine" this morning - a title I really wanted - at 4:30am this morning UK time. This is the first time I've been told about this title (I wish the same could be said for "The Egyptian" which SEA seem determined to mail-bomb me about on a weekly basis, along with CD soundtracks I have zero interest in!). I was lucky enough to be up at 6:00am (I was up early as I couldn't sleep) and as soon as I read the email about "Christine" being available for pre-order - 90 minutes after it was sent - I find it's sold out. WTF?!?!

As a regular customer I expect a better service from a supplier than an email at 4:30 in the morning on an item that is gone by 6am that same morning. Or are we saying that SEA sold out solely based on that 4:30am email within 90 minutes?!

For me, this is the last straw on top of all the other problems with Twilight titles. Their prices are high to start with. They don''t offer me a cheap shipping option because they say they get too many "lost" claims" so I pay the high shipping charges. They insist on posting the high cost of the contents of each package on the outside so that I ALWAYS get hit with a VAT 20% charge, an import tax charge (8%) and then Royal Mail charge me another £8 on top for "the pleasure" of paying them! This is NOT true of packages I order from every other USA supplier and just makes expensive titles even more expensive, bordering on the ludicrous. But I've put up with it... until now.

To add insult to injury you can't even simply check their "New releases" section under "Blu Rays" the way you used to as they've decided to become a reseller for Criterion and other "art house" companies which now swamp the Twilight titles in the "New Release" section and aren't titles anybody would be interested in given the high cost of ordering from the company vs ordering from anyone else (especially Amazon or Barnes and Noble)

If Screen Archives Entertainment who seem to be the sole supplier of Twilight can't treat their regular customers better then why would I want to do business with them again?

I'm done. Thanks to their shoddy handling of this "Christine" release. They clearly have no respect for their regular customers so why should I give them any more business. Maybe I'll miss one or two "rare" titles, but when a company seems to care so little about its regular customers it seems a small price to pay (and a huge cost saving that will enable me to buy a lot MORE titles from elsewhere)

Can't say I'm a fan of Christine - saw it late in life, so it felt pretty dumb (ditto for Cujo) - however I saw The Blob '88 when I was like 9 on TV and it blew me away; the effects were amazing and really gross. I've re-watched it numerous times and while still enjoyable for it's OTT gore, it's also hilariously dated - Kevin Dillon's hair and leather jacket? You can smell the 80's coming off of him.

I'll be pre-ordering the TT disc of The Blob for sure, unless a company outside the US announce a better release over the next year!

I understand your frustration, to a point. I get the meaningless posts, etc, but the Christine thread has been one of the most active threads on the board since it got announced. So all the people that didn't get one didn't know anything about it until hours after it sold out? That just doesn't make sense to me. This thread up until yesterday has literally been a repeat of "When does this preorder go up?"/"Feb 15th and 4pm".
