Not great news for those of us outside the US who can't afford TT's prices and shipping.
Of course you can try the german release which will be almost half the price! (and multiple subtitles, in case you're interested in. I do, since there are subtitles in my native language)

It's a shame that Sony can't release a Best Picture winner themselves. A real shame.

Can't wait for Friday to pre-order the two titles!

Any chances of TT ever release "The Caveman's Valentine"?

Hi Guys, do we know which titles are getting low in numbers at all.
I am planning to order Philadelphia on Friday and haven't been buying many titles lately so wondering if I should add a couple of others into this order that are likely to sell out.
Thinking about the Fury and Major Dundee maybe?
Any others that are likely to be low on numbers?

I currently have all the sold out titles, plus some of the other earlier titles.

Sorry I don't know.

There are a few posts in this thread that tell how to find low number titles. There's a couple within the last maybe 5-10 pages with specific numbers.

Perhaps someone who posted such a list - and the 'best guess' 'how to' manual for calculating them - might want to start a thread specific to those questions? That way, all anyone would have to do is look at the root forum directory to find the thread with that information (which might be updated monthly, just prior to the next pre-orders go live). People here could also easily post a link to that thread.

I should think it would save effort on everyone's part. Also save people here from either getting worn out re-calculating more often than might be necessary, and others getting worn out writing snippy responses to such queries.

Currently less than 1,000 (lowest to highest):

The Egyptian
The Big Heat
Our Man Flint
Experiment in Terror
In Like Flint
The Fury
Enemy Mine (1,002...but close enough)

If you're worried about either one selling out, I'd pick up The Fury first since it's already below 1,000, and most of the Twilight Time sell outs have been sci-fi or horror titles.

hmmm thanks guys, decisions to make
I don't have our man flint, in like flint, the fury or experiment in terror out of the ones listed.
So I guess those are the ones I should look at when ordering Philadelphia.
Not really wanting to spend too much though, have been buying a lot of Masters of Cinema silent Fritz Lang films lately...

Might have to decide which of the 4 I really want, do a bit of trailer watching.

I'm shocked, too. It says a lot about how Sony feels about legacy titles on physical media.

I don't know what it's like down your way, but in my area the big retailers very rarely carry any catolog titles, in fact best buy is only carrying top sellers, this tells me that we as blu-ray enthusiasts are screwed, I'm just glad that someone's releasing it, if that happens to be TT I'm fine with that. I think Sony is gambling on the next wave, that being 4k and PS4, so they are sacrificing catolog titles. This of course is just my own opinion, but having just returned from NAB last week, it seemed like it was all about 4k, with some 8k thrown in.

Just curious: were they proposing and demonstrating physical media release of 4k/8k releases, or just how they would stream them? In other words, did it seem like we are actually on the verge of the death of physical media?

If those are your only choices, I'd personally go with Experiment in Terror based on the strength of the film.

There was no 4k/8k physical media demos that I saw, even at the Sony booth they where running 4k demos off a server, but then again it's mostly a show for Broadcasters.

well, nobody cares about old films and especially musicals.
The studios are after the money, and hobbit, x-men, dark knight and such stuff bring money..

i think from my talk with people in other forums etc., very few are the people who still see and love classic films.
Here is a specialised forum for all tastes in Blurays, so this isn't so much evident. (that we who love these films are just very few)

I think plenty of people care. The main problems are the death of retail and the fact that too many of them have never made the leap to bd. Trust me we've been having these same discussions for 5 years now and the bottom line is that, at this point, a good number of classic films have made it to bd, and the number will keep increasing. The problem only stands out when you compare with dvd. unfortunately the number of classic bds will always pale in comparison. I just try to focus on what does make it out as best as I can; otherwise you'll go crazy.

It's also our job as classic fans to share them with the cinematically illiterate younger generations. That way the classics will be kept alive. I'm not refering to BD specifically, just classic films in general. It's absolutely astounding how uncultured most of today's teenagers are when it comes to movies.

I ordered The Fury and Song of Bernadette, I hope Screen Archives honored my $10 AMAZON code coupon (they told me to leave add a comment and they would honor it).

+1 - they think the best films have CGI and explosions in them. Classic movie lovers tend to be in the TCM Forum..Im sure there are a few of us who go there from time to time. Keeping classics alive - Warner Brothers I think does the best job at this, be it the MOD, the DVD or Blu Rays...
I love classic movies and it goes deeper than the Wizard of Oz...movies like the Maltese Falcon, The Big Heat, the Big Sleep, The Roaring Twenties, A Double Life, Body & Soul where acting stood out far more than Ka-Boom !!
Even classic horrors like Dracula , Invisible Man, etc relied more on the actors ability in their parts rather than some huge explosion.
Todays generation gets stuck with a lot crummy remakes and piss-poor CGI movies that dont hold a candle to yesteryear. Do I like contemporary films ? Of course, who doesn't ? Sin City, Spiderman, Transformers, LA Confidential, The Hobbit, are all wonderful post year 2000 films in my opinion
