It seems odd to me that the newer version isn't widescreen. ???

EDIT: For what it's worth, the US DVD is listed as being from 20th Century Fox with a running time of 91 minutes:

It sure would be nice to get a complete, definitive version of this on bluray!
for what's it worth - I didn't realize there were two UK editions, I have the older Warner Bros. version - and I'm pretty sure it's the full cut despite having a shorter running time (even with PAL playback the running time rounds up due to speed up) If Fox does in fact have the US rights, guess there's a better chance Twilight Time will release it, versus Warner who would relegate it to Archive Collection status.

I watched my first two Twilight Time Blu-rays, The Big Heat and Rapture, last night and earlier this evening. These Blu-rays are both home runs, with five-star movies that shine with great video presentations. Rapture is an understated beauty of a film and the cast is just outstanding across the board. The Big Heat... Well... I'm not sure how I made it through 41 years of my life without seeing The Big Heat until now. This one is a masterpiece.

I wish that the Rapture Blu-ray had subtitles, because I often like to watch older movies with the subtitles during my first viewing just to make sure that I do not miss any dialogue. (Yes, I know...I'm a strange guy.) It's not a big deal in this instance, though.

I'm about to watch Experiment in Terror in a few minutes.

I'll probably post some long-winded reviews of these movies later on, but I just wanted to drop in for now and say that I'm thoroughly enjoying the TT presentations.

You certainly got off on the right foot. They're all gems...

And since you seem to have a taste for the cinematic in monochrome, a perfect follow-up would be Renoir's Swamp Water.

Thanks! Swamp Water is actually the next currently-available Twilight Time title on my list. I've been looking over the reviews for that film with great interest, especially since I grew up in Georgia and am familiar with the setting. I need to pull the trigger on that one in the not-too-distant future. I want to pre-order The Driver first, though.

Just curious ... is yours the 2002 Warner DVD or the 2006 Optimum Home Entertainment DVD?

I used to have the widescreen laserdisc and that appears to be the ONLY uncut widescreen version on homevideo, if those running times for the two UK dvd's are correct. Even with PAL speed-up, the widescreen UK dvd's 88 minutes doesn't get anywhere near the correct 100 minutes it's supposed to run.

When Fox released the shorter cut on DVD in the US, they made a statement at that time that they didn't have the proper materials to restore the uncut version for DVD and what they used for the laserdisc wasn't up to snuff. So maybe the original negs of the uncut version still reside in the UK? Really needs a final restoration as there's a 9 minute chunk of footage missing including some of Harryhausen's work.

I really enjoyed watching Experiment in Terror last night. It's quite an extraordinary film that does not waste any time getting us into the story.

Lee Remick was even better in this film than she was in Anatomy of a Murder, and I also enjoyed seeing Glenn Ford in another prominent role just one day after seeing The Big Heat for the first time.

When one watches Experiment in Terror right now in 2013, Red Lynch may seem like the dumbest criminal in the entire history of cinematic criminals. This movie still amps up the tension quite brilliantly, though, and the cat-and-mouse plotting between Lynch and the FBI is still convincing.

It's funny that I kept thinking about a scene in Dirty Harry during the conclusion of this movie, then saw Dirty Harry mentioned when I read the Twilight Time essay afterward.

According to DVD Compare the Optimum DVD is anamorphic widescreen (Amazon specs being incorrect, I'm shocked....). 96:05 PAL should be the same as 100:11 in NTSC.

SAE sent out an email that Christine was available for pre-order after it was sold out. Maybe they'll send an email notification that our delivery has been sent after we already receive our packages.

If that's the case Sony may consider the title big enough to put out themselves in the US, probably during the holidays.

Or they gave it to Criterion.

TT was suppose to handle the release but it wasn't going to be a limited edition. Therefore, it's still possible TT is handling the release but the title is just being distributed through larger channels than SAE.
Here's an updated answer for you from TT's FB page.

Good news for the fans of this film, and those yet to see it for the first time.

I have the TOOTSIE Criterion Laserdisc for the commentary track so it would be cool if Criterion could finally release it with their commentary. I know Pollack doesn't usually talk a great deal much of the time on most of his tracks, still would be cool to have.

That was a fun commentary to listen to.
