But when I do get stuck in a hotel room stateside, I always tune in. TCM runs some wonderful old stuff, generally very well presented.
It seems we have a lot in common, I too haven't had cable since the early 90's, and when I travel I look forward to TCM.

I just hope they don't release too many stuff from the '90s. That's not what I hoped from then when they started. I'm ok with fantasy genre stuff of the '80s (like Fright night), but I really hoped TT would be my steady source for pre-1960 (and especially pre-1950) movies. We'll see. So far so good.

I mostly agree with you. But I think a nice mix of genres and decades is a good thing. I have little interest in Fright Night or the whole horror genre myself, but I understand and accept that some people do--and that that's part of TT's success so far. A smattering of 80s and 90s titles in drama could be a good thing, imho, and I'm all in favor of the movies that they seem to maybe be trying for there.

on TT's fb page a little while ago they mentioned that The Ox Bow Incident (1943) with Henry Fonda might be a possibility someday...

Their HD quality (obviously where available) is generally very solid too. Even the obvious upconverts can look pretty good.

I've got DirecTV and TCM is on the top of my list, as to which channel I want to receive an HD upgrade...still watching it in SD.

Canada More Hayworth..."Stayin' Alive"

For anyone who would like to see more Rita Hayworth in the TT collection:
Made to move. Made for Technicolor.

And weirdly, the song works...

Love this video! And I've always like these lyrics: "We can try to understand/The New York Times effect on man."

Did 'Bite the Bullet' come out yet? Screenarchives says it's still a pre-order.

Any day or hour now. Shipment can vary a few days either side of the release date. But SAE always notifies via e-mail when the order actually goes out the door.

Mid-May most likely, if past pre-order dates can be relied on as precedent.

Normally they put the pre-orders up about a month before the release date. So we should be getting pre-orders for the April titles (Bell Book & Candle, and Desiree) pretty soon.

According to TT's Facebook page, they should be up by Friday (March 16th).

I have thought about signing up for hulu plus after I used their one week free trial to sample some Criterion and non-mainstream current films back in November, but have not done it yet. I just have too big a backlog of blu-rays (including the entire Twilight Zone collection) to keep me busy. But for only a few dollars a month, it would make a pretty inexpensive way to sample unfamiliar movies I might want to check out first before buying.

I have slowed my buying considerably the past year, focusing instead on catalog titles, select current films, and foreign releases. I love blind buying a good catalog release I may have heard of but never seen. I have come to realize I much prefer films such as the ones released by Twilight Time when it comes to adding to my blu-ray collection. As much as I appreciate a modern superhero, summer blockbuster, or "blow em up real good" action flick, I am now a lot more selective.
I'm with you, thats what I did for The Egyptian last summer. I watched the first "installment" on YouTube and when I realized it has a Ben Hur / Ten Commandmants feel to it I ended up buying it.

Ox Bow is already out in Germany though it's certainly possible a TT release might look better. I have the bd but still haven't watched it yet.

These are Fox releases, not Twilight Time. They're exclusives through Screen Archives, but that's probably only for a set period of ~1 yr.

Yep, here's what TT said when I asked them on their Facebook page just now:

These two releases are nothing to do with Twilight Time--but as you can see Fox notes value in making exclusive deals with our distributors, SAE--and at the same price point as TT titles. The only difference is these are not limited editions.

super glad they are coming out, but it still seems a little odd.
Fox obviously wants the higher price also, and must be impressed with TT's success so far.
SAE about to be an even more important destination for classic bds on blu-ray.
(OUCH says my wallet)
