No, in my previous posted I already noted that the MSRP for the BestBuy exclusives is $25. Then they add a discount to that. The SAE Fox exclusives are priced $30 (and of course there's no added discount). That seems "unfair" to me, is all I was saying.

I starting to think maybe there's some misunderstanding with the wide release date. I believe SAE stated they were getting 2 new Fox exclusives each month. That would mean that eventually Fox would be releasing 2 old movies on blu-ray each month wide too. Plus their other exclusives. That sounds strange to me, it's a pretty steep schedule, big studios haven't done that until now on blu-ray, ever. Not even Warner nor MGM (maybe the most active studios with catalog) release that many.
I think the fox exclusives are the natural progression of the TT model. They see people are willing to pay $30 for a release and it looks like they are trying to figure out why.

What I am really wondering is if the other retailers will actually discount the releases. If I were Fox, I might think about limiting the amount retail stores can discount these discs.

So curious about those magnets. How many have there been? (And which?)

the bds that have a corresponding magnet are--

The Egyptian
Fright Night
Picnic
Pal Joey
Mysterious Island

I think that's all.
btw: the magnets have definitely gotten a fair amount of buzz, so even though they are pretty trivial overall it is a little odd that neither of the current releases came with one.
I mean I hope some of the future titles will have them--just as something kinda cool and uniquely TT.

I have an extra Picnic magnet I'd be willing to trade for an Egyptian magnet.

Perhaps we should start a separate TT magnet buying/trading thread?

My Picnic and Pal Joey magnets take pride of place at the bottom of one of my miscellaneous drawers somewhere

I'm really not sure why TT decided to include magnets (of all things) with these BD releases, and frankly I can do without them. Seems like a silly gimmick which probably costs them a few dollars more but won't affect anyone's purchasing decision or satisfaction level much at the end of the day.

I'm feeling lazy and not wanting to skim through 37 some pages, but has there been any rumour if Twilight will be releasing The Agony and the Ecstasy - saw that the DVD at Best Buy is on the cheap.

I'm not certain TT decides this Persianimmortal, at least I've never heard any mention to that effect. It's actually SAE who has the history of using fridge magnets as promo for soundtrack CDs.

Ah OK, I didn't realise this. If SAE feels that it works in promoting sales, then so be it. But it does feel odd to open up the SAE package and find little magnets. Maybe a movie poster for orders above a certain amount, or a small discount off future orders, would be more useful? Anyway it's obviously harmless to include magnets, I just don't see the sense in it

Okay, thanks. Just was curious whether I had all of them or not. I do . Also have the generic SAE one. Now all I need is a winning lottery ticket.

Fox specifically mentioned The Agony and The Ecstasy coming to bd a while back so I would have to think it will make it out at some point.
probably as a "regular" Fox release.

I also received "Demetrius and the Gladators" Wednesday. Gonna watch it this weekend.
Also... would certainly purchase "The Agony and the Ecstasy". Hope you are correct Arkadin... Also... Arkadin, I have been looking at your avatar... just curious, is that Orson Wells from "Moby Dick"?

The user name should have been a big hint.

bboisvert--lol!
Pirate--nah, Moby Dick is in color, but not a bad guess.
it's from the noirish 1955 film Mr. Arkadin.
see poster art here-- http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...33nDLLAnJ1BZnQ
(btw:still waiting 6 years later for the Criterion blu-ray release)
doesn't look too promising at this point, especially considering the dvd release is a box set with 3 cuts of the film.
total older Criterion box set dvd releases that have been issued in their entirety on blu-ray=only 2 so far.
(Monterey and Yojimbo/Sanjuro)--which is not really a box set imo, as it is just the two individual releases sold together.

.

I've watched some of DEMETRIUS and it looks as if Fox didn't think the title deserved the kind of digital restoration needed to rid the transfer of the many specks and blemishes that are very much there. I only hope they think more highly of JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH.

I don't know what source was used for the Netflix stream of Journey to the Center of the Earth I watched a while back but it looked pretty good to me so I'm expecting the BD to look marvelous!

Fox once did Rory...which is why Journey has had at least 2 1/2 restorations and remasters for home video (first for letterboxed Laserdisc in the late 80s/early 90s, including an expen$$$ive new IP, and then for anamorphic DVD in 2003, with considerable digital clean-up). The big unknown is how much Fox has done with this title since that DVD release. One thing seems certain though, even in DVD, its remastered 4-track stereophonic soundtrack was terrific. So transferred to Blu-ray with lossless audio, its AQ should be very impressive.

I'm still quietly optimistic about what we'll see - but just as importantly hear - in mid-May, trying to keep my expectations as realistic as possible given Fox' decision to let TT have this title instead of releasing it themselves. My best guess is it will land somewhere in between, with PQ on a par with The Roots of Heaven, and AQ rivalling Mysterious Island.

I got Mysterious Island and Demetrius, but no magnet with Mysterious Island (not with Demetrius, but as you mentioned, there isn't one).

Who can we contact about the missing magnet?

apparently there are only a certain number of magnets even made for each title so unfortunately once they run out they are gone.
It's like you not only have to buy the title, you have to be one of the first 500 or so buyers maybe. not sure how many are made.
it's a bummer for sure.
(you could give it shot though; I guess just email SAE, not sure what the TT address is)
