Well my last order of two Sinbads came in a bubble mailer and you could tell some pressure was exerted on them, with the only thing preventing more damage being the fact they were in "proper" cases. I have replacements to switch them out, but it's the shipping I'm worried about.

Yeah when they're 1 of 3,000, you kind of want them to arrive unmolested. I guess 29.99 ain't enough to buy a non-crap case anymore.

My beloved individual Blu-rays of the James Bond films deserve so much better than those godawful eco-packs, as do the Blu-rays of films like The Maltese Falcon, Laura, Sunset Boulevard, The Apartment, and Rio Bravo.

I guess that I'll have to be cognizant of my Viva Elite replacement supplies when ordering Twilight Time titles now.
You're far from the only person doing this. I switch out ALL of my eco-cases. Those things are so flimsy and cheap, I absolutely hate them. I have stopped ordering from some online retailers because the packaging materials they use are so poor, I ended up getting stuff that was all beat to hell. I had one order recently from a usually reliable retailer of five blus. One was in a "regular" case and one was a digibook, those were fine. The three in eco-cases were so beat up, I've seen more pristine items in pawn shops than these things.

I don't usually get my butt in a blender about small indentions in the sleeve art when eco-case Blu-rays are shipped to me, but I do feel the need to change to the Viva Elite cases so that the discs themselves will always stay safe. I do not like holes in a case behind the disc itself.

No, I'm not bothered by a few small indentations either, but these ones were warped and creased and one even had a small rip, and all in the area where the holes are! The spines looked fine!

I emailed Screen Archives Entertainment when my copy of The Driver arrived all beaten and torn up to the extent that I could not overlook the damage. They quickly mailed me a replacement Blu-ray case and sleeve.

Since then, I've included instructions in my order for them to ship my discs in a box to minimize damage.

For those sitting on the fence for "Golden Voyage..." looks like they're down to less than 200 copies. Adjust your buying plans accordingly.

The big problem with eco-cases is the damage that occurs to cover art during shipment. Expect tears and rips to develop in the cover art, if they are shipped in bubble mailers. The USPS's large sorting machines apply pressure at certain points.

I replace all of my cases with black, non-eco cases. The artwork looks so much nicer inside a black case.

An Eco case is like having no case at all...total joke. This practice should stop. Some of the big studios use Eco cases, but this the first instance that I am aware of a label using those things.

Yes my copy of In The Heat Of The Night came in a few days ago from Amazon with a deep dent and tear in the cover art from an eco case sent in a bubble lined envelope.

How do Eco cases help the environment...exactly? How much waste is generated at theaters each day? What are the studios doing about it?

I do. Since my cases are not going into the trash because I keep the cases, the only way these are "eco" are in the pollutants released during manufacturing. The shipping mass via fuel consumption are a moot point… Now, if I were throwing these away, different story...

Totally agree. Funny thing is to have a release with an Eco case and then include a slipcover . Reality check: most consumers, outside the online collector community, TRASH their slipcovers .

Very true. At the beginning of this year, Los Angeles banned the use of disposable plastic bags to bag groceries at all large markets. That's all good, but then if you just walk down the aisle of any supermarket, you will witness the unbelievably insane plastic waste in packaged products and so forth. Most products have more packaging than the food inside it. I think it was either at Trader Joes or Smart & Final, but they had sets of 6 apples all in these elaborate clear plastic flip boxes similar to an egg-crate to keep each apple in its own separate covered slot. Who needs their apples in a wasteful thing like that?!?

As far as eco-cases go, the amount that they get damaged and switched out by consumers who end up buying even more cases to switch them, I hardly doubt eco-cases are making that big a dent in the reduce-plastic movement.
