It's an excellent feature-length documentary directed by Brian Jamieson, who's one of the co-owners of Twilight Time:

I do wonder, however, if the film will have to be slowed down on BD like Prime Suspect, since it was presumably shot at 25fps for PAL TV airing. I have a PAL DVD of the film from the UK with lengthy retrospective interviews with Greengrass and star David Thewlis. Will wait for reviews before I decide whether to replace it.
It was shot at 24fps for theatrical release (over 91 minutes in theaters, 88 minutes on VHS with the PAL speedup). Like most Film 4 features, it got a small and unsuccessful theatrical release before its TV broadcast.

Wiki Info on Skatetown USA.

The Greatest Story Ever Rolled!!
Major music clearance issues will prevent this film from ever having any home video release.

I'll say it again...as God is my witness, I'll pre-order 2 copies of ROLLER BOOGIE from anybody who releases it.

Say what you will, it was a huge amount of fun and Linda Blair was shockingly hot.

Here here! She had a classic babyface. I have a copy of Roller Boogie from MGMHD on my DVR, and I'm not afraid to admit it. Not sure I'd pay actual money to watch it though.

Personally, I'm still waiting for someone to announce Savage Streets already.

I agree that is a rather large issue with respect to this movie. However note that both Saturday Night Fever and Thank God Its Friday had mostly the same music clearance issues and both got a DVD release (albeit, TGIF took till 2006).

Default Tcm sale: Codes

Thought I'd mention this, not really a great deal since no free shipping.

http://shop.tcm.com/twilight-time-re...twilight-times

SAVE10 10% off $50
SAVE15 15% off $75
SAVE20 20% off $100

Works with pre-orders, but couldn't use PayPal. $6.95 to ship 3 TT titles @$34.95 each, with discounts & Ohio sales tax came to $97 using SAVE20.

But, you get this 2 DVD set for free w/SAVE20, it's 2 films per DVD:

But the music in this film is a bit beyond those - just with The Jacksons alone. Try to clear that! Also, much of the music in SNF and TGIF was created for the films themselves, not acquisitions for theatrical only as this one. In any event, it would be great to be proven wrong, as I remember for years there was no way in hell that HEAVY METAL would ever come out intact on homevideo, and it finally did. So there's always a slight chance, but don't hold your breath. And remember, both SNF and TGIF had VHS releases over the years, whereas Skatetown has been MIA completely on homevideo, even with its star appeal, music, and disco revival popularity.

From wikipedia on Skatetown USA:

Among other songs on the soundtrack are the Patrick Hernandez dance hit "Born to Be Alive," "Boogie Wonderland" (Earth, Wind & Fire and The Emotions), "Shake Your Body" (The Jacksons), "Boogie Nights" (Heat Wave), "Baby Hold On" (Eddie Money), "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now" (McFadden & Whitehead), "I Want You to Want Me" (Cheap Trick), "Roller Girl" (John Sebastian), "Perfect Dancer" (Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr.) and a cover of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards' "Under My Thumb" by the Hounds.

I couldn't get to sleep earlier tonight, so I decided to revisit The Big Heat. I still think that this one is the crown jewel of the Twilight Time catalogue.

for better or for worse it seems clear TT will continue to be the major source of US based catalog releases of studio classics.
really wish the major US studios would step it up, but at 8 years into the format it feels more and more like a pipe dream with every passing day.
"at least they got most of the major classics out" is looking like the majors' bd legacy at this point.

I think you're right. I think we're moving to a situation where the big studios will bank on the new releases and certain solid-selling catalog titles (like The Godfather or Exorcist or similar tried-and-true classics), and everything else will be farmed out to small labels or not even released at all. It's sort of like what's happened to the book industry, where most of the resources are put into the sure-fire bestsellers and brand name authors, and 'midlist' authors and titles are pretty much left out in the cold. Little effort is being put forth to nurture & promote smaller titles.

And when niche labels like TT get involved, it can be a mixed blessing - yeah, it's great to have more obscure titles get released, but the small labels are often unable to finance restorations or new transfers. So the technical quality may not be state-of-the-art.

Sadly, I agree. This is especially disturbing because Warner Brothers doesn't seem to want to license out anything and is sitting on so many bona fide classics that may never see the light of day on Blu-ray.
